21.01.2022 Oh ducky This Pacific Black Duck was hit by a car and rolled under. Ducks, like a lot of wildlife, are extremely vulnerable to being hit by vehicles. Ducks tend to spend time close to the edges of roads or in gutters. They also can be slow to move out of the way. I think people expect them to just fly off quickly as the car approaches them but they usually don’t. Rescued by Brooke (wildlife rescuer), this duck was lucky it got rescued before it got squished by another onc...oming car. Brooke took it straight to the vet for urgent assessment and it’s now in care with me. However, I’m not sure how it will go. It’s not looking great at the moment and I just want it to rest tonight and not move around too much. Fingers crossed Thanks to Brooke Peluso who took the call and rescued it and thank you Eltham Central Veterinary Hospital for assessing and treating duck

17.01.2022 This is extremely horrible Why do some people hate animals so much, to inflict pain and suffering on them? I’ll never understand it.

09.01.2022 When we went for a hike the morning of a 38 degree day . It was beautiful to explore though and observe wild critters Thanks Cam for taking this sneaky photo!

09.01.2022 UPDATE: The vet clinic called me and this little one was too severely injured and couldn’t even move so they made the hard decision to put it to rest Have you ever found an injured possum but not known how to best pick it up and contain it? Have a watch of this video. Blankets are one of the most used tools in wildlife rescue. They are super useful to have on hand incase you come across an animal in need of help! ... As you can see, an easy and less stressful way to pick up a Ringtail Possum like this, is to place the blanket over the whole animal, tuck it in around the sides and pick it up gently and place into a box or similar. Covering it helps to reduce stress on the animal and is a safe barrier between you and the animal. This technique can be used on many different species including birds. Thank you @josephcashmore for taking the emergency call and advising the woman who found it, what to do. While she was a little bit afraid to contain it, she at least stayed with it until I got there to make sure no one else ran over it She wouldn’t have known to do this without your guidance We were both worried someone would squish Ringtail before I got there. It’s currently at Eltham Central Veterinary Hospital (thank you again, you’ve had a busy day!) resting after being assessed and treated and if it makes it through the night, I’ll be picking it up tomorrow and can keep you updated! Thanks @cameron_hall48 for filming and being my rescue buddy

07.01.2022 I have sad news, I lost this little one She didn’t make it . It’s always really hard when an animal passes away while being rescued or in rehabilitation. I like to think I’m fairly resilient and cope pretty well when I lose a critter but I still feel devastated and often have a cry. I’m extremely lucky I have a very supportive partner ... Her story: she was found in a roadside gutter by herself. Her eyes and mouth were full of dirt The person who found her said they saw a deceased adult 2 days before in the same spot. It’s possible that was her Mum which means she went 2 days without Mum’s heat, safety, comfort, heartbeat and milk. 2 days is a long time for a joey so small . This could be why she couldn’t stay strong enough to survive. It was a crap morning waking up and checking on her, only to find her little spirit gone R.I.P little one
