25.01.2022 ‘Dyerren Dyerren Dragon Tree’ is a new work by longtime collaborators, Alison Clouston and Boyd for #bankstownbiennale. Using an Australian native cypress and steel, Alison has created a snaking serpentine tree, evocative of dragons in mythologies across cultures. The soundtrack, called Djirang (Dharug language meaning the leaves of a tree) has been composed by Boyd using recording of voices chanting the names of the species of animals and plants native to the Bankstown region.

23.01.2022 Bankstown Biennale artists Selina Springett and Ale Berini are transforming the Incubate Studios into a sprouting garden! Thanks to those who came out to the studios to make their very own terracotta pots. These will be fired in the kiln at Bankstown Arts Centre and will become the beds for plant babies that will be sprouted from seeds and grown in the studios during Bankstown Biennale in October.



23.01.2022 Bankstown Biennale artists, Ilaria Vanni & Alexandra Crosby, discuss their work, ‘Mapping Edges.’ Mapping Edges uses a self-guided zine map filled with six invitations to care for and make allies with plants in our everyday life, and to make more meaningful connections with city ecologies.

21.01.2022 Our friends at Urban Theatre Projects are excited to announce the launch of M'ap Boulé by Nancy Denis. Presented online from 21 - 25 September, this major new online work is a summoning and a worshipping of ancestors a journey through fire, pain, ash and becoming. M’ap Boulé Home is where I lay is a play with songs telling the story of a child of immigrant parents growing up in Australia finding her identity. It explores the story of the first black-led republic of Haiti and the personal narrative of a Haitian-Australian woman living on Gadigal land in Waterloo. Tickets on sale now!

16.01.2022 Bankstown Biennale artist, Bonita Ely, discusses her work, ‘ Not a Drop to Drink: The Cooks River.’ The Cooks River and its tributaries have been, for tens of thousands of generations, the pristine home of Aboriginal people. It is now fed by waste water outlets transporting industries’ waste and toxic plastic litter strewn on suburban streets.
