15.01.2022 "A tree without roots is just a piece of wood." This is not applicable to the Bann Association who has always been loyal to its roots by supporting its village ...during times of crisis. Today in this desperate economical situation, the association has donated 250 barrels of diesel to keep Bann illuminated. We also thank Ronnie Chiha for providing Bann with diesel to last the entire 2020 summer. We hope that you will continue to support the Bann Association in Australia as this will be an advantage to the village. " " . " " . . Bann Association

06.01.2022 Archibald prize finalist, at last! https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/prizes/archibald/2020/ After producing five perfectly satisfying entries since 2015, I hav...e finally cracked the code to become an Archibald prize finalist. Many thanks to my sitter Matt Kean who allowed me to have my way with him, with few questions asked. His faith and bravery demand my deepest thanks, especially since his critics abound on all sides. After all, it takes huge guts to wear that silver skivvy, and thanks to Lara for sewing it, and many thanks to my band Lapis Sky for giving me a reason to need it in the first place (for our forthcoming Spaceman clip). I must say that my failure over the years to get hung in the Archibald had me scratching my head over why my work was rejected while other less-than-inspiring entries managed to get hung. My previous entries included my friend Kris Gale in 2015, the brilliant Vince Sorrenti in 2016, personal favourite Jeremy Fernandez in 2017, and the legendary Ian Moss in 2018. 2019 was an annus horribilis, and I failed to paint, but never mind about that, I was determined to paint in 2020. You could say I had a 2020 vision! Knowing Matt Kean as my local MP, and the controversy that he seems to thrive on, I saw the huge potential for capturing lightning in a bottle. The vision I had for this painting was fully realised before I asked him to sit. With the state in flames back in summer, the opportunity to do something remarkable was far too good to let pass. I happened to have the skivvy on hand, and I had visions of a flaming, passionate heart rendered as the state emblem of NSW a waratah being a perfectly flexible metaphor for my painting. Even though I was nervous about pushing the boundaries, Matt played ball and was delighted with the result. To be perfectly honest, I gave it my all. I shy away from publicity but knew that some controversy would be an essential ingredient for my game plan to work. I’ve been an artist my whole life, and believe me, it is a HUGE and wearying burden as much as it is a gift. Artists see things differently, and in this society, artists are less than nothing until venerated. We are sensitive and self-absorbed, if not fully aware of the machine that grinds around us. Even at art school, I was always challenged and challenging to lecturers and peers, despite a lifelong desire to get along and fit. That being said, that "challenge" has always been accepted even when I was not, and I’ve busted my arse to get to "here" and that is exactly half-way to everywhere. Being a free-thinking artist and musician, entrepreneur and a hopelessly cynical lover of life has made me feel precisely nowhere until today. To be perfectly honest, winning this prize has never been a serious goal, my success was always going to be defined by being hung in the Art Gallery of New South Wales. And to this end, I have finally achieved a dream come true. Congratulations to all finalists, this is truly an honour I will never take for granted.
