24.01.2022 With the current COVID-19 situation, we want our clients to know we will continue to provide excellent care and service to you and your pets in this emerging crisis. We therefore want everyone to know the measures we have in place to do our part to decrease the spread of this virus- to keep our community safe AND to keep our STAFF safe so we can continue to provide the care you expect for your pet: 1) please take precautions- if you are unwell, having cold like symptoms, or ...fall under the categories to be self isolating (ie, recent overseas travel) PLEASE have a well friend or relative bring your pet to us and we can conduct a consult via telephone if required. 2) Please use the hand sanitiser we have provided at the front door of the clinic to desanitise your hands prior to coming into the clinic and on leaving. Staff are also conducting regular sanitisation procedures to door handles, doors, window frames, benches and surfaces around the clinic. 3) if you are running late to your appointment please let us know- we want to avoid large numbers in the waiting room 4) Where you can, take advantage of our tap EFTPOS machine to avoid excess handling between people 5) We are implementing the no handshake policy to limit potential spread 5) The is still no link between our pets and the COVD-19 virus- your pet will be safe and cannot contract the disease, nor give it to you. These measures are in place to ensure we can remain open to provide the services required for your pets health as we understand pets may become sick despite what is happening to their owners.

24.01.2022 Little Gilbert may look small, but he has personality and cuteness levels in mammoth amounts!!! Gilbert was recently in to be gelded (castrated) and although he is smaller than some dogs that we see at the clinic, we still treated him as the horse he is and performed his surgery in our dedicated padded knock down box. Vet student Licia helped during his anaesthetic, surgery and recovery and couldnt help but get a lovely picture with the spunky man!

24.01.2022 Our Feb newsletter has been out in email inboxes for a few days now. But for those that have missed it, here is the link http://bannockburnveterinaryclinic.cmail20.com//4F35DC5B23

23.01.2022 'Eddie' is a serial grass seed offender. Over the summer months, we have seen her, sometimes multiple times in the same week to remove grass seeds from her ears. This year, Eddie's Mum has found a fabulous solution with these ear muffs! They are light and breathable to allow easy wear and not disrupt hearing, come in BRIGHT colours to help you spot your dog in a tall grassy paddock and best of all, save those pesky grass seeds from going down ears! ... More info and a link to where Eddie's Mum got these muffs in comments!

23.01.2022 As we continue to stay open to help keep your pets healthy, we are happy to see welcome new adoptions as people open their hearts to new pets as they stay at home. For some, isolation has resulted in the need for some company, for others the time is right to fill a void from a recently lost pet, for others having more time at home means they can welcome and help a new addition settle in and for others its all of the above! For Flynn, it was a case of all of the above- pict...ured here with Dr Kylie. As you can see we are still implementing our COVID 19 protocol, by having patients only in the clinic and wearing personal protective equipment. For those worrying how their pets are coping without them, we are finding treats and cuddles are helping pets adjust to missing Mum and Dad, but we do look forward to welcoming clients back into consult face to face once restrictions are lifted. 22.01.2022 JULY SPECIALS!!! We are proud to announce we have decided to honour "National Desexing Networks desexing scheme (which is usually run in July), despite the organisation postponing the campaign until September!! So this means, we will be offering 20% off the price of desexing for cats, dogs, horses, rabbits, pigs, cattle..... (the list goes on) for both July AND September!!! LIKE and SHARE our post to get the word out!!... ALSO during the month of July we are offering FREE postage on your purchase of 3 or 6 month packs of Revolution or Simparica AND a special gift. It is important to keep your pets parasite control up to date all year round. We often see fleas in winter when we warm up our homes - fleas love the warm indoors.

22.01.2022 Final Year Vet Student Ghia couldnt resist a photo op with this little calf after he was helped into the world! Mum even cast a gracious nod in our direction for the help! Such an adorable sight seeing the calf having its first drink!

22.01.2022 Dont forget your cat can also benefit from dental month!! Vann was brought in as his mum was now working from home and Vann, being a very good co worker has also been turning up to the office every day and being involved in Skype meetings. However, his mum has been blown away with his bad breath whenever he had an opinion on how she should be conducting her work. So Vann was brought in for assessment and a moderate amount of plaque was noticed on all his teeth. Under a general anesthetic his pearly whites were given a good clean (as seen in the below before and after photos) and office life has become a bit more bearable for Vanns Mum!!

21.01.2022 Our May newsletter is in your email inbox, or click the link here: https://bannockburnveterinaryclinic.cmail19.com//FE5EE0392 In it we welcome our new vet Dr Peter Richardson and we also discuss how the COVID-19 pandemic is being handled by the clinic to keep our staff and clients safe!

21.01.2022 Abby is a middle aged Staffy, who like many dogs, had worn down her canine teeth. As with our teeth, exposure of the pulp of a tooth can be painful and can be an open door to infections getting into the jaw bone. But unlike us, dogs will keep eating despite being in pain. We used our FANTASTIC NEW DENTAL XRAY to assess the degree of enamel and dentine wear to her teeth to determine if the pulp was exposed. Luckily, all of these teeth have enough of a gap to say the pulp is not exposed for Abby!! We have used out dental xray machine for many dental procedures already, helping us to determine the viability of teeth, or even disclosing retained roots from broken teeth. It is certainly a great new machine we now have available to help in us providing the best care for your pets!!!

21.01.2022 Or July newsletter is out in email inboxes, via our facebook page and HERE http://bannockburnveterinaryclinic.cmail19.com//FAB37717CC

21.01.2022 DESEXING SPECIALS. Just a reminder that despite National Desexing Network postponing desexing month until September, we have decided to go ahead and offer desexing month specials in BOTH July & September. We are offering 20% off the prices of desexing pretty much any animal to help with unwanted litters and the pet overpopulation crisis. Call the clinic to book you pet in during this great offer.

21.01.2022 Poor Bentley had a bit of a headache after he took on (we suspect) a tree headfirst. He came into the clinic and was sedated so his wound could be examined, cleaned and stitched up. The before shot is in the comments for viewer discretion, but apart from having an egg on his head, the wound came together nicely and he was happily munching on hay again a short while later.

19.01.2022 COVID UPDATE. In these unprecedented times, we would like to acknowledge all our wonderful clients on your understanding of our current procedures in place to keep our staff and our community safe. We would also like to thank people who also wear masks whilst bringing their animal to the clinic where sometimes passing animals over does mean breaching of social distancing guides- so masks are certainly a help. ... On that note, however, some areas where masks are mandatory are seeing an increase in pets needing to see the vet as a mask has been eaten. If seen early enough, it may be possible to induce emesis and retrieve the object. However, if the object passes through the stomach it can get lodged in the intestine like any other foreign body. SO PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU STORE YOUR MASK SAFELY WHEN NOT BEING WORN.

18.01.2022 Little Dachshund Mille has what is known as brachygnathia inferior- or an overshot jaw. This is where her lower jaw is not as long as her upper jaw. In some instances, this is mild and causes no problems, but for poor Millie, whenever she shut her mouth her lower canines and incisors were impinging into her hard palete and would be causing pain. SHe even had dints starting to develop from the teeth cutting in. As she is only a young puppy, it was decided to remove her puppy teeth to remove the pain and then she will be carefully monitored to see if her lower jaw would then catch up to her upper jaw.

18.01.2022 New classes now available at the clinic, for further class details go to The Bannockburn Dog Trainer Facebook page.

18.01.2022 A BIG SHOUT OUT to all our AUSSIE derived patients - the Australian Cattle Dog and Kelpie , the Australian Stockhorse , the Australian Mist , the Aussie Budgie ... who else out there?? SHARE WITH US a pic of your Aussie animal!! We will be closed tomorrow for the Australia Day day in lieu Public Holiday, however as always, a veterinarian and veterinary nurse is on call for any emergencies. Call 0407 811 222.

18.01.2022 Darling Maggie got herself into a point of trouble recently when the hoovering labrador devoured a needle and thread off the floor.... Luckily, Maggies Mum was very quick to see the incident and she was rushed down to the clinic. Xrays confirmed the needle to be in her stomach. The best action with the least potential side effects was to perform surgery and retrieve the needle from her stomach. Surgery was uneventful and the needle successfully retrieved. As with all gastric surgeries, she was kept in hospital and given small meals frequently to ensure that the sutures into her stomach held. 2 weeks later Maggies sutures were removed and she was in good health, with no signs of her "stitch up" coming undone

18.01.2022 A new puppy class will be starting next Tuesday at the clinic at 6.45pm. Places are filling fast. Contact us on 52811221 to reserve your place.

12.01.2022 SPRING is in the air!!!! And so calving and lambing season is upon us! Dr Peter Richardson was called to help deliver this little calf into the world when a bent leg was halting its progressin. She was up and drinking within half an hour!! So amazing!

12.01.2022 As the changing climate continues in the face of this coronvirus pandemic we are doing our best to do what we can to keep our clients and staff safe so we can continue to function as normal and provide our service. The aim of this is to limit the number of people WITHIN the clinic and carpark and adhere to social distancing rules. As of today, please be aware we will be: 1) Asking you to phone the clinic when you arrive with your pet. A nurse will come out to your car to col...lect your animal. At this time, please tell the nurse any additional queries or concerns you have regarding your pet. Also please advise the nurse of a phone number you can be contacted on. 2) The nurse will take your pet inside to see the vet. If there are concerns from the vet or further discussion is needed, the vet will call you to discuss. 3) Once complete, your pet will be brought back out to you along with our portable EFTPOS terminal so you can pay- preferably via the tap and go feature, We hope this way we can continue to see your pet for non essential reasons- i.e. vaccinations, cartrophen injections and checkups and provide the service you expect. As this is an ever changing situation, our protocols may change in the coming days as we adapt to the procedures. We appreciate your understanding.

12.01.2022 As mentioned in our previous post and in our newsletter, August is DENTAL AWARENESS MONTH! 11.01.2022 Further to our introduction of our new vet Dr Peter Richardson to the clinic in yesterdays newsletter, we would also like to extend a HUGE welcome to another addition to our work family- BUNJI !!!! Dr Peters new puppy!! Here she is stealing all the limelight with her cuteness, and then allowing Dr Peter to get in the photo!!

11.01.2022 We are optimistic to announce that:...

11.01.2022 How many puppies can you see???? Radiographs can be a very useful tool in diagnosing pregnancy in late stages and also to determine how many puppies you may expect. However, counting the puppies can take a bit of practice, especially if it is a big heavy set dog and there are many babies!! The trick is to try to match skulls to spines. How many puppies can you see in this very full belly? Tip- zooming in can help, but can also distort this image and you may get lost! A bi...gger screen than just your phone is easier (We have a very large, clear HD screen we view our xrays on ) Changing the contrast can help See more

11.01.2022 In this time of uncertainty we want to keep on bringing you our interesting cases and good news stories! Kevin is a little pug puppy who had an accident and presented to us in respiratory distress - he was only taking short shallow breaths and each breath was accompanied with some grunts. On auscultation of his lungs, crackles could be heard which is often an indication that the air in the lungs is passing though fluid and creating air bubbles. He was stabilised by placin...g in our portable oxygen chamber and given pain relief. Xrays then showed he had 4 fractured ribs and some possible blood in his lung cavity. Kevin was kept in the oxygen chamber overnight to ensure he kept up good oxygenation and was slowly weaned off the oxygen the following day. His pain was managed and after a few days in hospital he returned home under strict rest and confinement as, like people, ribs have to be left to heal on their own. A follow up a few weeks later showed Kevin to be in good spirits and pain free!!

10.01.2022 'Simon' was one very sick calf that had to spend some time in hospital with us- but we didn't mind because he was so cute! Poor Simon had very bad diarrhoea that had lead to him developing a condition called metabolic acidosis. That is where the balance of micro nutrients and minerals throughout your body and in your cells becomes very unbalanced due to loss from diarrhoea and dehydration. Once acidosis hits, it can be difficult for the body to regain control of its losses. In the case of Simon, we ensured he stayed hydrated by delivering him electrolytes via stomach tube and also putting him on intravenous fluid therapy 'spiked' with essential elements to overcome the acidosis. 36 hours into treatment, Simon was looking much better and keen to go home to Mum!

10.01.2022 We were seeing double when big 'Stew' the rabbit came in for a check recently. As he was being petted, it was noticed how much fur was flying out of him. So much infact that we could mould a whole second rabbit out of his residual hair!! Spring certainly brings with it the shedding of old winter coats and the emergence of lovely glossy summer coats!

09.01.2022 HAVE YOU SEEN JACK?? Jack has gone missing from Stevenson Road. He is a 9 year old seal point Siamese and is blind. If anyone sees him please contact us ... his family are missing him greatly.

08.01.2022 Due to the recent escalation of the coronavirus crisis, we regretfully inform puppy school has been again put on hold... we appreciate the understanding.

08.01.2022 We were all thrilled to see our own Dr Kylie marry her long time love Tegan over the past weekend. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful and the reception was a true celebration of them!! Nothing beats a work crew photobooth shot!!! can you recognise everyone??!!

08.01.2022 We are having trouble accessing our messages on facebook. We can see pending messages from clients, so please, if you have not heard back from us, give the clinic a call until we can access the inbox. Thanks!

07.01.2022 As much as we love sharing our good news stories, as the world turns, there is also some sad stories. And in this post, we would like to wish dear Shadow safe passage over the rainbow bridge after he lost a brave battle with a nasty cancer. The poem his Mum wrote to remember him by sums up the relationship between pet and owner beautifully. And every time we read it, brings a tear to our eye... I was just a kitten when we first met, I loved you from the start, you... picked me up and took me home and placed me in your heart. Good times we had together, we shared all life could throw, but years passed all too quickly, my time has come to go. I know how much you miss me, I know your heart is sore, I see the tears that fall when Im not waiting at the door. You always did your best for me, your love was plain to see, for even though it broke your heart, you set my spirit free. So please be brave without me, one day well meet once more, for when youre called to heaven, Ill be waiting at the door.

07.01.2022 Little calf Simon was very unwell recently with very bad diarrhoea. He spent nearly a week in hospital with us so we could ensure his little body didnt become to dehydrated from the runs. As he responded to treatment he certainly got more and more keen on bottle time!! And there was a big celebration by all of us and his owners when he passed normal looking poo again!!! He is back happily running around the paddock again kicking his hooves in the air!

07.01.2022 THE AMAZING ABILITY OF THE BODY TO HEAL!!!! Meet Tex, all wrapped up covering a massive wound, that yes- he did on the second picture, a gate latch... Every horse owners biggest enemy . The final picture is just 2 months after the ordeal, with a barely recognisable scar on his side. He has since even been out for a trail ride with no ill effects to the wound. Biology is amazing! All progress photos in the comments to avoid gross out reflexes!!

06.01.2022 Behold, a series of photos taken shortly after the safe arrival of a new baby into the world 1. Who can resist a foal having its first drink from Mum. Its always an adorable sight that makes hearts melt. This really cements the bond between the pair. 2 &3. Watching a foal take its first steps as mum softly nickers encouragement to her foal. 4. Finally, another highlight after supervising a birth (and many horse owners will understand this) is the foal passing its first poo ahhh, the things we get excited about?!

04.01.2022 From today we are trialling sending out your pets healthcare reminders via SMS and/or email!! This means if your pet is due for a vaccination, any heartworm/parasite prevention or cartrophen (arthritis) injection over the next two weeks, you will receive this reminder via SMS or email. In the current COVID-19 environment, we have the following advice: ... * as per the AVA (Australian Veterinary Association) recommendations, VACCINATIONS can be postponed if your pet is otherwise healthy and well. However, if it is still receiving its course of puppy vaccinations, is under 4 years of age or you have ANY other health concerns, then we recommend calling the clinic to have your pet seen. * HEARTWORM if your pet is on proheart injections, then they need to be continued on the specified date as the injection is time sensitive. 04.01.2022 Meet our new vet Dr. Kate Richards! Kate has been with us for a few months now, and many of you may have already met her. Kate- pictured here after gelding the adorable little pony 'Showtime', comes to us from Wagga, however her family ties to the Bannockburn/Geelong area are far reaching! Growing up on a family farm near Winchelsea her interest in animals began from a young age. Kate enjoys working with both small and large animals, and cares for 6 creatures! Rooster (horse), Twink (horse), Marley (dog), Millie (dog), Mini Puss (Cat) and Mark (Hubby ).

04.01.2022 Well we found this little gem posted to us today. We feel chuffed :) We are hoping Peta is a girl and you creatively chose her name!! Can't wait to get photos with each kitten and their namesake!!
