25.01.2022 Resilience readers: Today we completed our first "measuring resilience' training course, arranged for Swiss Red Cross and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. We introduced Banyaneer's new (survey-based) Resilience Radar as well as the IFRC's new (participatory) Resilience Star - and successfully field-tested both tools today in Gaibandha district. Next week, we'll apply both tools as part of a baseline study. Congratulations to all participants and thank you to Swiss Red Cross for the opportunity and to BDRCS for the excellent logistical support!

24.01.2022 As 2017 comes to an end, we would like to thank all who worked with us over the past twelve months, and express gratitude to our clients: Australian Red Cross, Danish Red Cross, German Red Cross, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Norwegian Refugee Council, Oxfam and Swiss Red Cross. Throughout the year, we have carried out evaluations (Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar), baseline studies and needs assessments (Bangladesh 4x), a review of disas...ter risk reduction (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan), supported an endline survey (Georgia, Armenia), helped develop resilience strategies for Central Asia and Myanmar, supported the design of two new projects (Bangladesh), and facilitated a regional workshop on disaster preparedness. Notably, we provided the first 'measuring resilience' training in Bangladesh, successfully using Banyaneer's resilience radar and the resilience star of the IFRC. We hope to have made our modest contribution towards reinforcing resilience across Asia, and look forward to an exciting 2018. We are working on three enhancements that will come to fruition in the coming year - an organisational change of Banyaneer, a new website, and an advanced version of the resilience radar. More about that soon. We leave you with a short video of impressions from 2017 and wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. All the best for 2018!

21.01.2022 Demystifying figures and stats: Here's the webinar presentation Patrick and Boris gave earlier this week at Swiss NGO Helvetas in Zurich. They focused on some benchmarks and caveats when using statistical data and surveys. Thanks to Kai Schrader for facilitating and Cesar Robles for the technical support! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn-_QzD8pQ4&feature=youtu.be

16.01.2022 How does a disaster risk reduction (DRR) project make a difference to the lives of the people in its communities? In December, our consultants Samadhi Marr and Su Myat Yin Chaw travelled to Myanmar's Rakhine State to collect stories of change related to a DRR and climate change adaptation project by Malteser International and the Community Empowerment and Resilience Association (CERA). "Reducing disaster risk through trust and tangibles" includes the stories of eleven villa...gers, gathered and selected through a Most Significant Change (MSC) process. The stories tell of the value of feeling prepared, of better working together, of greater inclusion and empowerment, of improved livelihoods - and show good practices in effective implementation... http://reliefweb.int//r/51713_malteserdrrgoodpractices.pdf

15.01.2022 How do you measure resilience? This July, we will focus on that question. First, we will soon publish a new version of the resilience radar the survey-based tool that we first created in 2017. The new manual and toolbox will make it a lot easier to adjust it to your needs, and to rapidly deploy it in your context. The new radar will save you time and money as you deploy it for base-, mid- and endline surveys. ... Second, we look forward to the resilience measurement training course. Starting on July 13th, this two-week course will introduce you to the new radar as well as other tools. We will go through all steps and practice its application. After the course, you’ll be able to adjust and apply the radar independently. Seats are limited so book soon to make sure you don’t miss out! 09.01.2022 If affected by disaster, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) tend to collapse and 'close shop'. A project by Oxfam and its Indonesian partner Jemari Sakato aimed to strengthen the resilience of SMEs - through the promotion of insurance, savings, business continuity plans and other measures. Our evaluation of this project shows that the investments paid off: Sampled businesses increased profits by 163% on average, expect a 2-8 times faster post-disaster recovery, and expect l...ower damages and losses (direct and indirect). The idea of 'SME resilience' is worth adopting on a wider scale - see our evaluation report here, which also includes first-person accounts of 'stories of change'. http://banyaneer.com//Ready-and-resilient_Oxfam-report-_LR

01.01.2022 Banyaneer's new tool - the resilience radar - is finally online - download it for free from www.banyaneer.com/resilience-radar/ It's been in the making for a long time (we've been busy consulting after all), so we are even more excited to present this tool, which is survey-based, adaptable, free and (rather) simple. Read the manual, explore the work files, use it, and then share your experiences through our community of practice on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com.../groups/10336682 We look forward to your feedback!
