18.01.2022 10th Anniversary of the Canonisation of Saint Mary MacKillop 17 October 2020 Mary MacKillop’s words of wisdom Take Fresh Courage... Congregational Leader of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Sr Monica, has provided a reflection and video message to commemorate anniversary of St Mary MacKillop's canonisation. "Australians, Sisters from across the Congregation and the people with whom we had ministered were filled with great pride as we celebrated this special moment in our story. Let us pause and remember that moment when Mary MacKillop was acclaimed as a saint of the universal church. Do you remember where you were and how you felt. My heart was filled with joy. Let us take a moment’s silence and reflect on how the spirit of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop has continued to live on in each one since her canonisation. How has each one been gifted? How has her life continued to shape my commitment to living the Gospel way of life and to making a difference in the world?" You're invited to watch the video message below and read Sr Monica's reflection here... sosj.org.au/mary-mackillops-words-of-wisdom #TakeFreshCourage #Canonisation #MaryMacKillop #SaintMaryMacKillop #StMaryOfTheCrossMacKillop #SistersOfSaintJoseph

16.01.2022 The Laudato Si committee hosted a "How to make a beeswax wrap" class on Saturday 30th, featuring guest speaker Camilla (environmental scientist and Stafford parishioner). Camilla spoke about the plastic waste challenge; how there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050, and how waste plastic breaks-down into microplastics and cycles through our ecosphere. A number of positive methods to reduce plastic waste was showcased, and then attendees had the opportunity to make their own beeswax wraps. Young parishioner Sarah says "It's been wonderful, I learnt a lot" If you'd like to see the recording of the session, contact the Parish Office.

11.01.2022 This Sunday, 11 October, we will observe Dying Peacefully Sunday. This is an important opportunity to come together and encourage reflection and dialogue on end... of life, access to palliative care and euthanasia. Legislation around euthanasia or voluntary assisted dying will be considered in Queensland early next year, so this is an important issue to consider as we prepare for the state election on October 31 https://bit.ly/2Sejz9m

08.01.2022 Mary MacKillop's Beatification On 19 January 1995, Mary was beatified by Pope John Paul II. The beatification ceremony took place at Randwick Racecourse in New ...South Wales, Australia. The ceremony of beatification is the public declaration that a person has lived a heroically holy life, is with God, has the power of intercession with God for us and is a model for the faithful. Beatification recognises that the person is a saint for a particular region, for a particular group of people or for a religious congregation but not for the whole Church or the world. In the recount of the day by Annette Arnold rsj (Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart) she thought that: "Mary MacKillop would have been tickled pink that her Beatification Mass was held at a racecourse. After all, she was a horse woman and a true-blue Aussie. From her living in country places, Mary would have known well the significance of racecourse gatherings. Such events providing the opportunity to reconnect, network, to play, to dress up, to celebrate and to back a winner." 04.01.2022 Our Inspirational Saint Mary of the Cross This month we pay a special tribute to Saint Mary MacKillop as we celebrate ten years since her canonisation in Rome b...y Pope Benedict XVI. As written in Sr Michele's reflection: "As Australia’s first Saint we reflect anew on this woman close to our hearts who demonstrated a passion for justice, a respect for human dignity, the courage of her convictions and feminist leadership is our own Mary MacKillop. She set hearts of the young women who flocked to join her on fire; she was true to her values and unwaveringly acted accordingly. She knew hardship, illness and concerns about the congregation and her family. Her life was anchored in the love of the God she trusted and in in providential care she placed her life. As her followers we applaud her place in society, and in the church. We appreciate the example that she has given us to live by. May this coming celebration of the ten years since canonisation grant us a deeper understanding of her greatness and holiness and inspire us by her courage and faithfulness." Let us celebrate this wonderful woman and ask God’s blessings that we have the strength and inspiration to live the best life we possibly can. 04.01.2022 Today is World Mission Sunday, an annual day set aside to publicly renew the Churches' commitment to her missionary movement. "The celebration of World Mission ...Day is an occasion for reaffirming how prayer, reflection and the material help of your offerings are so many opportunities to participate actively in the mission of Jesus in his Church. The charity expressed in the collections that take place during the liturgical celebrations of the third Sunday of October is aimed at supporting the missionary work carried out in my name by the Pontifical Mission Societies, in order to meet the spiritual and material needs of peoples and Churches throughout the world, for the salvation of all. (Pope Francis, for World Day of Mission 2020) To read the rest of the message from Pope Francis, see here: http://www.vatican.va//papa-francesco_20200531_giornata-mi
