20.01.2022 Happy and safe Easter to our entire EDJBA community during this tough time We know this is not how many of you planned on spending Easter, but we are slowly g...etting through this pandemic as a community and we will come out stronger than ever on the other side! Following the announcement from the Victorian Government this morning in relation to extending the State of Emergency until May 11th, this will impact our already revised return to Winter 2020. The EDJBA committee are considering the next steps and will update clubs and our community as soon as possible. Stay home, stay safe and stay connected. We will return. 20.01.2022 Willows Girls 10.6 won their qualifying final and are through to their Grand Final!! Well done girls!!

20.01.2022 The EDJBA wishes to update the members of our community about the current status of our response to COVID-19, the suspension of play by Basketball Victoria, and... the State of Emergency in Victoria. As a result of these factors, the Committee of Management has determined: 1. The Summer 2019/20 Season has been cancelled with effect from the Semi-Final round held on February 29, 2020. Premierships will not be formally awarded as no Preliminary Finals or Grand Finals were played, however those teams who had already qualified for Grand Finals by winning their Qualifying Final will be recognised for this achievement. 2. At this stage the Winter 2020 season will take place, subject to the lifting of suspensions of play by Basketball Victoria and suitable risk management strategies being in place. 3. Given that the suspension of play will last until at least mid-April, the start of the Winter season has been delayed by 2 weeks and Round 1 is now hoped to be played on 2 May (the week previously allocated for Round 2). The Winter season will be shortened by 1 round to 14 rounds as a result. This will also allow clubs to complete their pre-season planning processes in a timely fashion given the impact of COVID-19 measures. 4. Should Basketball Victoria extend their suspension, or the state government extends the state of emergency, then the Committee will review this and alter the current plan as necessary. 5. The Committee has also determined that as soon as there is an opportunity for competition to resume, it will do so regardless of the timing at this stage there is no indications that the Winter season will be cancelled entirely. The current situation with regard to COVID-19 is extremely dynamic, with a range of factors changing on almost a daily basis. The EDJBA encourages all stakeholders to remain calm and follow directions from the Department of Health to minimise the potential for the spread of the virus in the community. We appreciate the support of our large community and are excited for competition to resume at the earliest opportunity.

11.01.2022 | EDJBA COVID-19 UPDATE | Further to advice below from Basketball Victoria, the EDJBA advises that competition for tomorrow, Saturday 14 March, has been cancell...ed. The Preliminary Final round will not be rescheduled. Decisions about if grand finals can be held, and nominal results from this round, will be made in the coming week and advice distributed. Basketball Victoria has made the decision to suspend Basketball Victoria related programs, events and leagues from now March 13, until further notice. This includes ALL VJBL games, Big V games and the Country Championships being held in Ballarat this weekend. As this is a rapidly evolving situation, we would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience as we work through this difficult period. This is a decision we dont take lightly and want to reassure the basketball community that we will continue to work with the Victorian Government and other health authorities to ensure the health and wellbeing of our players, coaches, referees and staff are maintained. Further updates will be provided in the coming days and weeks.

11.01.2022 Congrats Sara (G12.3) on your 'Most Valuable Player' medal!

11.01.2022 Please see Basketball Victoria's update below regarding a 'Return to Sport' based on the current announcements by the Victorian Government. Due to basketball being classified by the state government as an indoor and contact sport (i.e. a sport that is unable to be played at a social distancing length of 1.5m between each participant), basketball competition indoors is still subject to being part of the 'Last Step' of the COVID Roadmap (the trigger point for the Last Step is 14 consecutive days of NO new cases across the state). If Victoria does progress to the 'Last Step' in the next few weeks then the EDJBA are hoping for a Nov 28th start for the Summer 20/21 season . The Hawks will open registrations (via our website) once we receive confirmation that the season can commence.

09.01.2022 Congratulations Charles from B10.5 on your Team player medal for the Summer 19/20 season

08.01.2022 Club Recognition via the Hawks Spirit award nominations due by 16th March Please think about nominating a coach, parent, team manager or others who have gone above and beyond in some way to support our club and its players for a Hawks Spirit award. This community spirit might have been shown in a range of ways but if you think you know of someone who is well deserving of this recognition then please send an email to [email protected] with their name and why yo...u think they should be recognised. Our committee will identify the most suitable recipients who will then be announced at the Summer Presentation Day which is Sunday April 19th.

08.01.2022 As per the restrictions announced from the Victorian Government in light of the recent outbreak, masks will now be mandatory for all patrons whilst inside stadiums as well as upon entry and exit. Players & referees may remove their masks during the game. At this stage Basketball Victoria do not anticipate any other operational changes to game restrictions, however they will advise accordingly if any changes are needed to be made.

U17s and younger (born in 2003 or later) - $140 (includes game fees) U19s (born from July 2000 to Dec 2002) - $130 (includes game fees) Please email our Operations Coordinator [email protected] if you require any assistance with registration. 07.01.2022 Basketball will be back! Keep up those skills at home

07.01.2022 Dear Hawks Families, Thank you for your patience as we work through the restrictions on our terrific sport brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is encouraging to see that we are now in a position where the health impacts of the disease are able to be managed and restrictions can now be lifted gradually. The Victorian Government has announced that from 22 June, some indoor sporting activity will be allowed, the details of which are yet to be advised. So while there is n...o clear guidance on when we will be able to return to the courts for training and competition, Basketball Victoria and the EDJBA are working tirelessly to ensure we can have a safe return as soon as possible. The Hawks Committee is hopeful that this will happen in term three. We will keep you informed. Go Hawks! The Banyule Hawks Committee

07.01.2022 Coming soon - Early bird registration for Winter 2021 (terms 2 & 3) opens 16th Feb via the Hawks website - http://www.banyulehawks.com.au/sign-up/

07.01.2022 With the Victorian Goverment announcing further easing of restrictions starting next week, the EDJBA are working on strategies for return of competition in Term... 3 and will be communicating any decisions made as soon as possible. Basketball Victoria are working on the requirements and we wait for their lead before making our own decisions and announcements of a return to play.

06.01.2022 Congratulations Noah from B10.6 on your Best Team player award for the Summer 19/20 season

04.01.2022 Dear Hawks families, As you know, the EDJBA winter season has now been cancelled due to the return to a stage three lockdown in the fight against COVID-19. Thanks to you all as you stuck with us to see if we could get back on court for Winter. We acknowledge the enormous efforts of our volunteer committee members - Todd Campi, Shaun Carey and Brendan Flight who along with our volunteer age group coordinators - Jane Tomic, Elissa McKenzie, Justine Worrell and Bernadette Halton... and our Operations Coordinator, Mel Barton. They organised teams and coaches for the Winter season on incredibly short notice. Their work was almost complete when the season was suddenly called off. Thanks very much to you all. Members now have two choices: Rollover to Summer - Do nothing and your child/rens registration will be rolled over to the summer season. If the cost of registration for the summer season goes up, there will be no further charges to you. Request a full refund - To do so, please email [email protected] and clearly specify your child/ren's name/s, your account name, BSB and account number. Refunds will be processed as soon as possible, but your patience is requested, as it could take a couple of weeks. Stay safe and we hope to see you back on the court for the Summer season.

04.01.2022 If Victoria does progress to the 'Last Step' in the next few weeks then the EDJBA are hoping for a Nov 28th start for the Summer 20/21 season . The Hawks will open registrations (via our website) once we receive confirmation that the season can commence.

03.01.2022 Dear Banyule Hawks Families, Unfortunately, due to the extension of the state of emergency in Victoria to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, basketball is still suspended in Victoria with no specified date for starting again. The Eastern Districts Junior Basketball Association, with which the Hawks plays, remains committed to running a shortened Winter season if that is at all possible when play is allowed again. However, no dates for this can be specified at this time.... In the meanwhile, we appreciate that this provides no certainty for Hawks members, many of whom may be suffering financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 restrictions. At this time, we would like to offer members who have signed up for the Winter season two choices: Withdraw from the Winter season and receive a full refund. To obtain a refund, please email [email protected] for further instructions. Refunds need to be requested before 8 May 2020. Remain registered for the Winter season. When the extent of the Winter season is known, the Club will determine an appropriate registration fee for the season, and credit the balance of registration and game day fees paid towards the Summer season. You need to do nothing for this to happen. If you elect to withdraw from the Winter season and obtain a refund, your children will not be allocated to a team for the Winter season when it ultimately gets under way. Given that any truncated season is likely to get under way at short notice, it is unlikely that there will be an opportunity to re-register for the Winter season. We look forward to seeing you back on the courts soon. Go Hawks! The Banyule Hawks Committee
