15.01.2022 We thank you for your support throughout Anti-Poverty Week 2020 and urge you to remember: Secure and suitable housing is everybody’s business. A home makes everything else possible. Education, training, employment, health, and safety all rest on the stability of having a place to call home. Government payments need to be at a rate that adequately reflects the actual cost of living and job seeking. In 2018 36.1% of people receiving social security payments were living belo...w the poverty line, with this number anticipated to increase upon return of pre-COVID payment amounts. Poverty is not a personal choice. Being a full-time carer, or living with a disability or mental illness, or leaving a violent partner should not result in poverty in a prosperous and progressive county. #APW2020 #endpoverty #everybodyshome #raisetherateforgood

08.01.2022 Add your voice! For the 1.6 million Australian’s on JobSeeker, last Tuesday was an incredibly disappointing day, as the Federal Budget failed to offer a return of the JobSeeker rate to it’s peak COVID-19 level. Instead, further and significant tax cuts were brought forward. This week during Anti-Poverty Week, we ask you to help those on JobSeeker who have already faced a $300/fortnight cut and will experience an additional cut, returning the rate to just $40 a day. It’s up ...to us to continue to put pressure on the government to stop this and #RaisetheRateforGood How to help: - Write to your local Member of Parliament to tell them how the JobSeeker cuts will affect you or somebody you know, and why a permanent, adequate raise is needed: https://raisetherate.org.au/contactyourmp/ - Call Prime Minister Scott Morrison's office on 02 6277 7700 - Call Treasurer Josh Frydenberg on 02 6277 7340 Find out more > www.raisetherate.org.au Raise the Rate #APW2020 #endpoverty #buildmoresocialhousing #everybodyshome
05.01.2022 Today, 28 August 2020, 59 days from the end of financial year, is Equal Pay Day, a day marking the additional days women had to work to earn the same as men last year. The national gender pay gap is 14%. What does this look like in reality? Last year on average women working full-time earned $1,558.40 while men working full-time earned $1,812.00.... Let's #KeepMindingTheGap to ensure that employers continue to focus on gender equality during and beyond the pandemic. Why? Because it's good for business! The Gender Equity Insights Report 2020 found that a balance of male and female leadership delivered better; 1. Company performance, 2. Improved productivity, & 3. Greater profitability Want to learn more, watch here > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSbA5rq8U3A#action=share
05.01.2022 This Week 11-17 October, is Anti-Poverty Week 2020. This year the campaign has partnered with the Everybody's Home campaign, in an effort to show that affordable housing is the best solution to reducing poverty. Additionally, the campaign continues to support Australian Council of Social Service's Raise the Rate campaign to ensure that the JobSeeker rate doesn't return to $40 a day. COVID-19 has seen over 2 million Australian's rely on government unemployment payments. Wit...h unemployment at over 10%, 1 job opening for every 13 people on JobSeeker and Australia officially in a recession now is NOT the time to cut payments. JobSeeker at around $40 a day traps people in extreme poverty, unable to eat properly or pay their housing, medical and other basic expenses. The 2020 budget failed to address these concerns and so every day this week we will be highlighting action you can take in supporting Anti-Poverty Week 2020. 04.01.2022 Budget 2020/2021 was a missed opportunity to invest in social housing. Australian’s on JobSeeker and without affordable housing will be left facing the stark reality of homelessness. This Anti-Poverty Week is the time to continue asking the government to #buildsocialhousing. ... 03.01.2022 Today on the National Day of Action, we stand alongside Australian Council of Social Service and say #raisetherateforgood. Scott Morrison, a $300/ fortnight cut will not allow those on JobSeeker to #coverthebasics, a permanent and adequate increase to Jobseeker and other payments is needed.
