25.01.2022 We’re big on dreams at HopeStreet. Hearing our clients’ stories, their hopes and aspirations, is what makes sense to us. And then if we can, supporting people to achieve them. Sometimes it’s a no interest loan for car registration, support with a job interview, arranging a new school for children who have escaped domestic violence, or being able to save a little thanks to accessing affordable food. Helping people work towards their dreams is who we are. Thanks for joining us.

20.01.2022 A house-sitter in demand, Jacquie had ten years’ experience minding pets and properties before COVID-19 hit. During lockdown in 2020, jobs dried up and Jacquie stayed with her sister, then spent a few weeks at her mother’s house where an altercation brought up devastating family secrets and abuse spanning decades. Jacquie was forced into homelessness in her 60s, and we came alongside her to help her rebuild her life. Jacquie's story shows hows domestic and family violence takes on many forms, but at its core, it is a pattern of abusive behaviour where a person seeks to control and dominate another person. If you or someone you know is impacted by sexual assault, family or domestic violence, call 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732 or visit www.1800RESPECT.org.au. In an emergency, call 000.

19.01.2022 Today it's important we share with our Facebook community how we feel about domestic and family violence. Please, speak up when someone crosses the line. Every time, everywhere. Let’s not allow silence to be compliance to a culture of violence. How? Catcalling, inappropriate sexual comments and sexist jokes are never okay. Listen to survivors and make sure they have the support they need. #orangetheworld #16Days #GenerationEquality

11.01.2022 Yesterday, another woman was allegedly murdered by her partner in western Sydney. We mourn with her family, and her three children. Domestic violence in 2020 is what is now being referred to as the Shadow Pandemic. In July, a survey by the Australian Institute of Criminology revealed almost 10% of Australian women in a relationship had experienced domestic violence during the coronavirus crisis. Two-thirds of the women said the attacks started or became worse during the pandemic. For women with previous experience of physical or sexual violence, 50% said the abuse had become more frequent or severe since the start of the pandemic. Please know that BaptistCare HopeStreet will not back down from our work in supporting women and children who are experiencing violence. https://www.theguardian.com//the-worst-year-domestic-viole

10.01.2022 Affordable, safe and secure housing is something many Australians are struggling with currently. BaptistCare's new housing in south west Sydney is a wonderful step in the right direction, and showcases a wonderful partnership with the NSW Government that is having a great impact for seniors and single-parent families.

06.01.2022 Merry Christmas to our HopeStreet family and friends. This year has challenged us to find new and different ways to deliver support to our clients as they have navigated increasingly uncertain times and situations, including the economic fallout from the COVID-19 health pandemic. We thank you for your support, as we sought to continue offering hope and practical support to people and families throughout the year. We wish you a season that’s merry and bright, with the light of God’s love, and hope your family stay safe and well during this holiday period.

06.01.2022 The economic fallout from COVID-19 is expected to result in a 19% increase in homelessness in NSW next year, according to a new report released by Everybody's Home, a coalition of welfare organisations, including BaptistCare, campaigning against homelessness. The report also predicts the number of families facing housing stress will rise by more than 40%. We're calling for a $7 billion federal government investment in social housing, which we believe could boost the post-pandemic economy by $18.2 billion and create 18,000 jobs per year over four years. Everyone deserves a safe place to call home, to be able to afford to eat, pay for electricity and school uniforms or car repairs.

03.01.2022 It's World Mental Health Day, and we wanted to say, "Hi, we see you, and we know things have been tough for a while." For people struggling with, living with, or curious about mental health, we see you and encourage you to speak with someone you trust; your GP, a counsellor, or reach out for help from the various helplines available (Lifeline, Beyond Blue) to talk about your wellbeing. Please have hope, there is help and support available always.

02.01.2022 Our team on the Central Coast have been supporting local families experiencing hardship during lockdown, with more than 100 hampers handed out over two weeks as part of a drive-thru service at Hope Cottage, Gorokan. In partnership with Lakes Baptist Church Gorokan our Chaplain and Hope Cottage team bagged essential food items including fruit, vegetables, eggs and bread for contact-less and drive-thru pickup, as well as offered low-priced groceries in a COVID-safe way at their walk-in store. Hope really does live here.

01.01.2022 For any family, the very thought of the car registration coming up for renewal or a washing machine breaking down is enough to induce anxiety. Now imagine you’ve got six kids. Kerry's helping hand came in the form of a No Interest Loan (NILS) from HopeStreet, and she is one of 1290 people we've supported in the last financial year with over $1.4 million worth of no interest loans. We know that having access to safe and affordable credit when you're on a low income can break the cycle of poverty and transform lives.
