17.01.2022 Dangerous fire conditions forecast for Tuesday 12 November Tuesday will be a dangerous day. Based on the latest forecast, we are likely to see widespread Severe... and Extreme fire danger. This is expected to stretch from the Queensland border to the south coast, and across the Central West. There is already extensive fire activity across the north coast and northern NSW areas. These fires won’t be contained in time. Under these conditions, these fires will spread quickly and will threaten homes and lives. These conditions will be as bad, if not worse, than those experienced on Friday as they will be across a much broader area including large population centres like Sydney. There are significant resources committed to fires and they are limited. If you are threatened by fire, you may not get help. Monitor conditions over the next few days. Use the time now to get ready. Stay up to date on bush fires in your area and take responsibility for your own safety.

16.01.2022 It may be winter but there’s still an increased risk of fires in some parts of NSW. The Australian Seasonal Bush Fire Outlook has been released today by the Bus...hfire and Natural Hazards CRC. It shows an above normal risk of fires in a small patch of southern NSW for the next few months. Of course, this may change depending on rainfall and there’s a long way to go before the peak of the coming fire season. Any time is a good time to update and discuss your bush fire survival plan and know what you and your family will do if fire threatens. More information is available here: https://www.bnhcrc.com.au/hazardnotes/75

A wind change will cross the area tonight and early morning, which will ease conditions to strengthen containment line on Saturday. It was a huge effort from all firefighters today supported with aircraft, which included drops from the large air tanker.

14.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE: Planning for an Emergency The recent bushfire activity devastating many communities across NSW is a timely reminder of the importance of having a...n emergency plan in place. Residents of the Warrumbungle Shire area would be well aware of the impact that bushfires have on the social and economic fabric of communities, said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd. The fire season is not over and residents should remain alert to what they should do to plan for an emergency. Local Government plays a key role in community emergency management. Council is in consultation with government agencies and volunteer organisations that already have management plans in place to assist residents in both planning for and managing during an emergency, said Cr Todd. During times of emergencies, I urge residents to inform themselves about what to do if you or your home is threatened by a natural disaster. Council’s website contains good information on how to plan, who to call, Evacuation Centres and what do in the event of an emergency, said Cr Denis Todd. Most people know to call 000 (triple zero) in the event of a fire, accident or emergency. For storms and floods, the State Emergency Service (SES) may be called on 132 500. Council’s website contains a list of phone contacts and website addresses for a wide range of emergency providers. During an emergency you may be requested to evacuate by the NSW Police, NSW SES, Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA), Rural Fire Service (RFS) or NSW Fire and Rescue. You may also decide to self evacuate. Information about Evacuation Centres may be found on Council’s website. Evacuation Centres in each town that may be used by emergency services are shown on Councils website, listed below. It is important to stay well prepared in the event of a natural disaster and keep well informed with local emergency agencies to keep safe, concluded Cr Todd. For information on planning and help in emergencies visit Council’s website at www.warrumbungle.nsw.gov.au/help-in-emergencies

08.01.2022 Winter is a time where home fires become even more of a risk. There are some simple steps you can follow to reduce your risk of a fire in your home. Never lea...ve cooking unattended If you have a fireplace make sure the chimney is clean and make sure there is a screen in front of it when it is in use Check electric blankets for damaged or frayed cords before placing it on the bed Take care keeping curtains, tablecloths and bedding away from portable heaters Keep wet clothing at least 1 metre away from heaters or fireplaces Clean the lint filter to your clothes dryer every time you use it Only use one appliance per power point and switch off power point when not in use Always extinguish candles or any other open flames before going to bed. Never leave open flames unattended and always handle candles or any other open flame with care Store matches and lighters in a secure place not accessible to young children. Remember that smoke from a fire will make you confused and that you cannot see in smoke When asleep you will not smell smoke and it will in fact put you into a deeper sleep. If you have escaped from a home fire, remember once you get out, stay out and call Triple Zero (000). Oil, gas or wood heating units may require a yearly maintenance check Only ever use fuses of recommended rating and install an electrical safety switch.
