25.01.2022 What can you expect at a Barbwire Fitness HIIT Class? . We'll start with a nice simple warm up that's relevant to the workout that will follow. This will include some mobility and movements to start to lift your heart rate a little. . Then the real work begins. The session will be programmed so that you can essentially take it at your own pace. Experienced exercisers will get the chance to push themselves to the limit, while beginners or people that are rehabbing injuri...es will be able to take it at a slower pace if desired. I always ensure there are options for everyone! . These sessions will be different every single time and will include various modalities of fitness including aerobic work, strength movements, core and agility work, plyometrics - you name it! . We finish things off with some light stretching and bringing down the heart rate. And of course, some high fives . Not sure if HIIT sessions are for you? 14.01.2022 From hot and sunny to dark and raining - nothing was stopping my bootcampers from smashing this week's workouts . I'm so impressed with how both of my bootcamp groups performed this week. We had some first box jumps, some goal kicking push ups and a whole lot of laughs! . Well done, Barbwire fam!
13.01.2022 PART 1 How to avoid injuries . Plain and simple -- injuries suck. Especially when you have an active lifestyle. But everyone should know how best to deal with injuries so they don't get the better of you! . Apart from accidental injuries (you know when you're too busy thinking about dinner and you trip over the sidewalk and roll your ankle ), there are ways we can minimise our risk of injury during exercise. Here are a few of my key tips:... . Practice correct movement technique. Poor form exposes you to potential injuries -- even more so when there's added resistance (barbells, dumbbells, etc). If you don't know what you're doing during a workout or if a movement gives you pain or feels uncomfortable, ask your coach for assistance. Alternatively, if you're working out solo, do your research before implenting a new movement into your regime. Make sure you know which muscle groups should be working and what the goal of the movement is or I would advise avoiding the movement until you know how to perform it correctly. . Follow adequate recovery protocols. This means getting enough sleep and managing your training load. Aiming for 7 - 9 hours of sleep each night is ideal and there's really no excuse here -- GO TO SLEEP EARLIER . Appropriate training load will be different for everyone depending on your experience and fitness level, so you'll really need to listen to your body on this one. If you're feeling fatigued -- it's probably time for a rest day! . Warm up, cool down and do your damn mobility work. This means pre and post workout stretching. Don't wake up and jump straight into a crazy workout. Warm your body up with relevant lighter intensity movements and stretching. Then follow up your workout by more stretching and lowering your heart rate. . Our bodies can do awesome things, but we need to treat them right. 13.01.2022 CANCELLATION NOTICE Due to the current weather warnings, I've decided to pre-emptively cancel this afternoon's HIIT and tomorrow morning's Boxing classes. Safety must come first and I don't want to risk anyone being caught out in bad weather. There's plenty of other time for us to get a great workout in, but for now let's focus on staying safe and dry. Go away, Kimi! ... I will keep everyone in the loop as the days go by and we see what the weather does, but hopefully we'll be able to return to normal by the time Tuesday night Hip Hop rolls around!

Lori started off her Barbwire experience by coming to casual sessions with me in Giru, but moved to Townsville this year and kept up her bootcamp commitments. I am so impressed with how much I've seen her improve, especially during the last five weeks. She never makes excuses and has really been able to push herself outside her comfort zone lately. . 09.01.2022 So bloody proud of my Giru Crew! They smashed this yesterday's killer session . The improvements these ladies have made over the last year or so has honestly blown my mind. I knew what they were capable of, but seeing it come to fruition is such a humbling thing. Just two sessions a week has given these ladies so much strength, endurance, coordination and confidence. They're all an amazing example of what you can achieve if you stay consistent. You don't have to be doing anything crazy, just keep showing up! . Well done ladies
08.01.2022 I'm adding something a little different to the timetable this year As some of you may know, I LOVE dancing - more specifically, hip hop. I've been teaching hip hop on and off since I was in my teens and love it as not only a form of exercise and socialising, but also a creative outlet! Unfortunately Townsville doesn't seem to have a lot on offer for adults who want to do this kind of thing, so I figure why not offer it myself! This class is open to men and women of all ex...perience levels aged 16+. You do NOT have to be a confident dancer to come along. It's just a bit of fun, exercise and you honestly do get better with a little consistency. 06.01.2022 It's finally here! Round 1 of our 6 Week Challenge for 2021 This time I've developed two different options for sign up to try and best meet your needs! Option 1: For those of you who are happy to stick to the three regular sessions each week: Monday, Wednesday & Friday 5:30am - 6:15am.... Option 2: For those of you who may want to mix it up and get a few additional workouts in or try a different day/time. There will be six total sessions offered per week as of Feb 1 Both options are a one-off payment, but payment plans are available if needed. All sessions are 45 minutes in length and are held at Jezzine Barracks. Suitable for men and women of all fitness levels! While this is a "challenge", the general goal is FITNESS. Therefore there's no restrictive diets to follow or a big focus on weight loss - everyone's goals are so varied that I like to keep the focus on what your body can ACHIEVE rather than what it looks like. In saying that, I have had clients asking to track their measurements which is why I've made it an option this time around, but the choice is completely up to you! However, with the additions of an accountability calendar (for you to track workouts, rest days etc) and a wellness guide (helpful information on sleep, recovery and nutrition), I'm confident we can get you kicking goals no matter what they are! 02.01.2022 PART 2 What to do if you've scored yourself an injury . One of the most critical parts of dealing with an injury is knowing exactly where to seek help. I believe this is where most people get a little stumped and why sometimes recovery takes longer than expected, or simply doesn't happen at all. . Here's an easy way to determine which health professional you should see for different injuries or health conditions (note: these are just common examples we see in the fitn...ess industry, obviously their scope ranges far beyond in some circumstances): GP: Broken bones, poor sleep quality, fatigue Chiropractor: Skeletal alignment issues Physiotherapist and/or Exercise Physiologist: Sprains, strains, muscular issues, chronic diseases . In my honest opinion, I find I rely heavily on my physiotherapist/exercise physiologist. I believe having a quality allied health professional in these fields are essential to most athletes and recreational exercisers. They work to diagnose your injury and provide physical therapies rather than attempting to mask injuries with painkillers and "band-aids". . Do your research before visiting ANY allied health professional as they are not all created equal. . IMPORTANT: If you're new to exercise, don't mistake delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) for an injury. This is a very common effect and is completely normal. If you're unsure as to what DOMS is, a great example is the feeling of not being able to sit on the toilet after doing a lot of squats because your muscles are extremely tender #youarewelcome See more
