13.01.2022 I have plenty of conversations with #jobseekers to understand where they're at in the job search pipeline, their current approach, and where they’re facing challenges. In these conversations, many are expressing their frustration around how the #hiring process is broken, and it’s a hotly debated topic here on LinkedIn. I know it feels like you’re spinning your wheels sometimes. I’m not saying there aren’t aspects of the recruitment process that are frustrating, but let’s focu...s on controlling the controllable Do you genuinely meet the requirements/qualifications and are you evidencing this in your resume? (Simple yet it’s amazing how often this is not the case). Have you created a resume that is pinpointing your career target, and are you making it crystal clear just how your relevant background, industry experience, and achievements will set you up for success in this capacity? If it’s a career or industry change are you painting a clear picture of how your transferable skills and experiences will apply to them? Are you customising your resume each time? What does your resume look like compared to the job description? Does your resume leave room for questions, assumptions, or red flags? Are there unexplained gaps or perceptions of job-hopping that could be explained? Do you have a complete and optimised LinkedIn profile that positions you for your ideal role, and are you using it daily or weekly to build your network and engage in your desired industry? Do you reach out (where possible) after you’ve submitted a job application? Are you diversifying your approach and seeking out conversations, new networks, and engaging with your industry regularly? Do you set yourself up for success at interviews by doing the necessary research, preparation, and practice? If you are not thrilled with the results in your job search and are preparing to send yet another job application, know that you are being presented with two choices Evolve or Repeat. If you need someone to help you evolve your resume, LinkedIn, interviewing or #jobsearch in general, shoot me a message for a complimentary chat!

03.01.2022 #jobseekers Please be wary of hard and fast #jobsearch 'rules' shared online with zero context and by people with zero understanding of the recruitment world. I just read a post suggesting that condensing your experience into a one-page resume will get you more results. I would confidently say that 99% of the time, this approach comes off looking like an absolute dog’s breakfast because you’re trying to squeeze in pieces of information like a flippin’ Tetris game.... There is no 'one size fits all' solution to ANYTHING in this industry. I’ve learned that I can answer just about any job search and resume question with ‘it depends.’ If you’re looking for a role right now, I understand you might want to believe in that silver bullet piece of advice that will get you across the line, but there are so many moving pieces to this puzzle. My two cents for the case above if you’re an entry-level job seeker, sure, you could get away with a one-page as long as you use the space optimally. Relevance determines length. And take such 'black and white' job search advice with a grain of salt. #resumetips
