23.01.2022 P R E O R D E R S // Update time! We are 1 week behind schedule thanks to you-know-what impacting, well just life in general, of late! #thankscovid Both shipping containers filled to the brim with our stock, are sitting pretty at Brisbane Port. (1 has been there for over 1 week now caught in the all-too-common backlog this year, the other was delayed inbound longer than anticipated).... We are simply awaiting our turn for delivery to the warehouse; then delivery to you! We have 1 shipping container filled with nappies (all pre-sold!) and the other filled with gorgeous swim sets and accessories (almost all pre-sold too!). So depending which container arrives to the warehouse first, will define what we dispatch first! So once again, we are the mercy of events outside of our control, but we are so keen to get stuck in to the goods and getting them in to your hands! 18.01.2022 Night routine joys And not the baby type. They’re simpler; a solid feed, a snuggle on chest and a nurturing pat sends them off to dream (until the next feed)... Jump ahead a few years and boy is it fun trying to get a youngster to sleep in our case, aka the 5 year old.... To get him to sleep, well it’s a bit of a feat. He finds a million and one reasons to get out of bed. This is AFTER the bed time story, lots of cuddles, a tickle or a wrestle with dad. After that part, comes the well-practiced skit: toilet break, sip of water, walk to lounge-room to check up on the parents and coax a conversation about an incredibly random topics, quick chat, walks incredibly slowly back to bed...Repeat. In that short stop once back in bed, apparently our child finds things that urgently require fixing, investigating, checking up on before he finally falls asleep. The night routine of avoiding bed is so predictable, it’s almost funny. Oh to have the energy of your child hey! Well tonight’s final comment after the tenth time of the above...Hunter calls out from his room a few steps away, (the cottage is quaint we remind him, we are always literally a stone throw away)...I’m so bored. When I am an adult, I’ll never make my kids sleep. They can stay up all night... Me: Uh-huh...sure you will. When you are an adult you can definitely do that. As for me, mummy thinks it best you have a big sleep now.... The funny thing, I remember as a child asking mum whenever we were grocery shopping to please buy Tim-Tam’s (iconic Aussie biscuit for our international followers) which was a resounding no to junk-food. I’d reply to my mum...Well, when I am an adult I’m going to buy Tim Tam’s every day and eat them all.... Mum was like, Uh-huh, sure you will... Raising kids is fun and funny. It’s also tricky, knowing you’ve had a big day with another big day to come and all you want for your child is for them to have a solid sleep. For Hunter, he sleeps solidly for sure. But getting him to sleep to start with, well that’s one we roll our eyes at every night- that child is way too creative. When they do all fall asleep, well, parents with kids will know the feels.
17.01.2022 W I N N E R S // Blown away by the enthusiasm for our latest giveaway, we really should do more! They’re too much fun! It may take us a week just to compile the beautiful print suggestions and interesting product ideas that were submitted (); but we are so thankful for everyone who took time out of their day to share!... There are some common threads we’ve noticed and have goosebumps thinking of what is yet to come! Surprisingly, many suggestions aligned with our vision boards already (and our product-dream-list!) so once we get through a busy few months, we can’t wait to get stuck in design-mode again! 17.01.2022 R E S T O C K E D // Yay! News has been trickling in, that those unlucky regions which may have been awaiting nappies, have since been freshly restocked over the weekend! After some not-so-surprising transport delays last week (given the circumstances we have come to know too well this year), some of you did experience late launches in-store for our latest collaboration.... Well, a BIG thanks for hanging in there, we have received so many messages from excited families who have since been able to get their hands on our nappies for their little ones this weekend! Thanks for everyone who has purchased their reusables; we hope you find them as cute, functional, cost-effective and environmentally conscious as we do! 16.01.2022 Sleep, feed, change, repeat! One of our midwives dressed Saxon in his first ever newborn nappy, after our home birth, at only a wee few hours old. My husband and I enjoyed skin-to-skin with Saxon for a while, then the midwife said she’d get him dressed for us.... I whispered hoarsely, thanks to exhaustion, ...please grab a shell and insert from the changetable... No further instructions needed apparently. She said it was the simplest cloth nappy she’d used! Popped one of our Bare and Boho Newborn nappies straight on his little bottom and handed him back to me as I was still nestled under a mountain of oven-warmed towels on the lounge-room floor. Newborn Nappies were so easy to use from day dot for us! Nice and trim, simple to assemble and dissemble, not a hassle at all to clean (simply straight in the machine). Saxon was 4.43kg at birth with these photos taken at 10 days old (after already further chunking out! Sumo Sax was his quickly adopted nickname ). Having hubby also dress his nappies was not a mission at all, a simple snap of an insert to a shell and away you go! Changing every 2 hours and plenty of nappy free time on our water-resistant playmats, was what got us through one of the hottest ever summers we’ve had in QLD, into which Saxon was born. 16.01.2022 So there is now a big 5 year old in the house! The rowdiest of the clan but a heart so loving! He’s had a nice few weeks feeling super duper special! He spends half the time doting and fretting over his brother like a little mother hen; the other half inspiring Saxon to be just as cheeky (and loud).... He is full of love; has to kiss the baby as the first and last thing he does each day. If it’s not his bro, it’s animals...from the time he waddled he’s been trailed by his little pack of rescue hounds. Little cloth butt, dirty footed child and then the raggle taggle of furry friends- most at ease outside. He is noisy, loves the suspense of investigating mysteries around the house, loves reading all and any books about animals, the more venomous the better apparently. Leaves a trail of chaos in his wake, followed closely by a frantically crawling baby bro, who absolutely cannot get enough of his big brother’s antics. Hunter is so full of purpose, it’s beautiful to see. So indignant in his causes and so passionate in his storytelling. My thoughts on the age gap? AH-mazing. 4 (and a bit) years between them has created this beautiful dynamic and companionship. They are two peas in a pod. As an older bro, he loves being filled with a sense of responsibility, loves being the nurturer in the relationship. Whilst the younger spends all waking moments just wide-eyed in adoration for this loud, interesting older being, always bobbing up in his face- carrying him to and fro between the chaos they create. I grew up as 1 of 4 sisters, a mother hen myself, doting on my younger sisters and our serious doll collection. It was a different kind of colourful, a different kind of loud, a different kind of fun. Raising boys seems like a whole different ball game at times. And whilst I have no natural inclination towards trucks, dinosaurs, venomous creatures or bugs , I’ve loved being drawn in to this little-boy-world filled with endless wonder and wanderings. Feeling very grateful for another year of magic and memories to unfold. #babyboys #boymama Ps. Our Play mats make for cool super-hero capes too apparently!
15.01.2022 Our make-or-break question for choosing Saxon’s swim school; can we use reusable swim nappies? When the answer is a resounding YES. Well, I tell the receptionist, lock us in! When is the soonest we can start?! We used reusable swim nappies with Hunter when he starting lessons all those years ago. They were great! The only problem- they were sized! (S,M,L) ... Which meant, we went through 3 swim nappies in 6 MONTHS because he outgrew them way too fast! (Joys of raising sumo babies) So, with Saxon, the benefits of using a One-Size swim nappy, means the nappy GROWS with your ever growing baby! Our reusable swim nappies can cater to weights from 4kg upwards, with various size variances able to be customised via our handy range of snaps. The snaps are in the groin (to size the length of the nappy) AND in the waist (to size the tummy). The way swim nappies work at the pool? Well, strip Bub of their usual cloth nappy and simply replace with their light-weight cloth swim nappy when about to hop in the pool. The difference? Swim nappies are not designed to absorb, but rather contain any suprises, whilst not being heavy in the water. They have elastic in the waist and groin; just ensure you have a snug fit and have correctly sized the snaps to suit. If you are unsure of the snaps, refer back to your fitting guide which will be delivered with ALL swim nappy orders. The best addition to your swim nappy? Our warm and functional Swim Onesie! The onesie will keep Bub that bit warmer in the pool AND add an extra layer of protection. Our onesies have snaps in the groin for super-duper easy changing, should your little one need, mid-way through their lesson or water play! Parents of chunky-monkey-toddlers and older kids...get excited! Whilst we have catered our One-Size swim nappies to cover various months-years of growth wonderfully, we have also been working away on a larger multi-size swim nappy too! 08.01.2022 Wintertime impacting your drying time? We never owned a tumble dryer growing up, a family of 6 in sunny Southern Queensland; I think the trickiest part was when the rains hit and then up would go the temporary clothes line in the garage with some ropes, and that was that! When I went overseas to Germany for my gap-year as an Au-Pair, I had to interact with my first ever tumble dryer. The biggest hillbilly moment , I had no idea what to do with the fancy contraption.... So long as you plan a little ahead, depending on your climate, you can certainly keep yourself cloth-covered in the colder seasons. But it’s to be expected, thirsty (& gusseted) inserts like ours do need some extra patience during the colder/wet season. The great thing is, we have some ready-made solutions! Trifolds: - A tri-panelled rectangle of bamboo-cotton fleece, that is folded to create numerous thirsty layers. - Once splayed out, they fast track drying. - We have 2 trifold options, both slender, creating a great alternative to our shaped insert; less wide in the groin - 2-layer (total of 6 thirsty layers) is the fastest drying option available OR 3-layer for day/night use (the workhorse option). Hemp Inserts: - They’re also trim, thirsty, stretchy & faster drying. - Best part, they’re made of Hemp fleece! One of the most sustainable fibre options. They are blended with our GOTS certified organic cotton too! - Less bulky than their bamboo gusseted cousins, so you may find these more pliable on Bub. - Very textured once dry, think crunchy. But they soften once on Bub, they melt to shape; magic! Some other winter drying tips: - Chase the sun! Lay them out in any sunshine you can find. - Tumble dryer an option for all inners (inserts/trifolds/boosters), just not nappy shells. - Clothes rack which you can evenly space items and move the rack in to an airy space or under a fan. Don’t bunch them closely. - Ensure you stretch your inserts and Trifolds when wet before drying, this will help aerate the fibres - Check the weekly weather report and time your wash alongside the weather forecast! 02.01.2022 Welcome H O M E // We are live! We hope you enjoy walking through the site; digesting the changes; revelling in the simplicity and truly feeling at home. The journey to this point, especially the shoot, has been especially unique and extra special. ... Our shoot concept, we intentionally kept sweet and simple with an emphasis on home; quite literally filming in our cottage one sunny winter’s day. Our little man played, then napped, then played some more... in his new Version 3 (V3) nappies that we much adore! We scattered the cottage with all the new range- nappies, accessories and cleaning galore-sprinkling love throughout, as our amazing friend and brand photographer, snapped up a ton of gems to share with you all! We understand change isn’t always comfortable; don’t we all feel it this year...But our range reflects a fresh simplicity, that has taken years of creating in this industry and space, to condense. And we can promise you, we are far from done creating. This is just the start of more magic to come! So Thankyou, from our home to yours, for absorbing the newness; taking some time if you need, to rest on the ideas we put forth in our offering of reusables. We hope our changes bring comfort and aid in making foreign concepts, feel familiar. But for now, it’s that time of the day when our cottage lights dim and the little folk go to dream land; the time we wrap up another BIG day for our Bare and Boho family and team. But we wake with intent and have our full team back on deck again tomorrow, working our way through any queries you may like to share with us! So please feel free to do so via email.
