22.01.2022 The ultimate skin drama of 2020.. Who knew the term ‘face mask’ would have such a different meaning?! Just when we thought our skin would be in the clear (literally) after a much-needed break from everyday makeup during our first quarantine, now we are in a situation where our protective, anti Coronavirus face masks are disturbing our skin in the form of maskne. It is exactly what is sounds like; acne or irritation you get from wearing your mask, with hot spots focusing on th...e cheeks, chin, and nose. It’s referred to as acne mechanica, or acne caused by excess heat, friction, or rubbing of the skin. From moisture-wicking fabrics, to 100% cotton, to disposable, there sure are a lot to choose from. So, which one is ideal in terms of protecting your skin? A reusable cotton mask is going to be the best choice for your wallet, the earth, and also your skin, if washed FREQUENTLY. As we enter the hotter months of the year, your mask will trap sweat, bacteria, and oil resulting in irritation and flareups on the skin. While this moisture is inevitable, maskne is not! Simple adjustments to your daily skincare routine, as well as wearing a clean mask, can help prevent and protect. So what’s to know? Cleanse and cleanse again! Double cleansing is essential in acne-prone skin. The first cleanse removes SPF, makeup and any dirt or grime from the day. The second cleanse actually cleans your skin, getting deep into pores and providing the perfect base for the application of the rest of your skincare regime. At The Bar, we are Therapists, but we are foremost humans.. and with this news we have been left heartbroken. The increasing risk in the Covid-19 situation in our community is scary and it’s real. We are all adapting and responding in our own way, and Bare Beauty Bar wants to continue to play a role in positively helping individuals and our city emerge stronger... by supporting the decisions made earlier by Daniel Andrews. This state effort - to protect the most vulnerable and to stop this Viral enemy in its tracks requires all of our care, and all of our participation. We need to take this more seriously. Im here sadly announcing our second closure as of tonight. Our Health and Safety of our Clients and Therapists is our number one priority. 05.01.2022 Part 2. - WINTER SKIN.. The arrival of Winter has many of us craving warm, rich and nutrient things. Our bodies naturally want that little bit of extra care and comfort. And this goes especially for our skin - as the temperature drops, so does your skin's hydration levels. The skin starts to feel dry and tight; we lose that healthy glow and crave the comforting touch of rich, nourishing creams. Nurturing your skin properly during winter will ensure you protect it against redn...ess and flaking. To help keep your skin glowing this Winter here’s a couple of our favourites. SMUDGE BUDGE CLEANSER As part of Skinjuice’s notion we prefer to stay away from bubbles or foaming cleansers (also mentioned in Part.1 of our previous post), and this is especially important in Winter. These types of cleansers will strip away any protective oils you have on your skin. Instead cleanse with the lipid rich carrot and tomato oils found in Smudge Budge. These skin smoothing plant butters melt onto the skin to dissolve make-up and impurities while skin-loving oils infuse deeply into the skin to reinforce the skin's own barrier against the harsh Winter environment. FLOWER JUICE FACE CREAM This decadent and protective cream is deliciously rich and nourishes the driest skin. Fruits such as watermelon, pomegranate and rosehip work with plant butters to shield the skin from drying winds and air conditioning. 05.01.2022 5 SIGNS YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR CLEANSER.. Cleansing is the most important step in any skin care regime. Get it wrong and your skin will be playing catch up from that point on. Here I have outlined 5 signs that show your cleanser may not be the right one for you. Skin Feels Tight -... If your skin feels tight after cleansing, then it's actually screaming out for moisture! When you strip your skin of its protective oils then you may experience breakout-prone, oily, dehydrated and dull looking skin. Harsh foaming cleansers are the main culprits and will latch onto oils and strip moisture from the skin. The skin is smart and will begin to self regulate by producing more oils in an attempt to rebuild a healthy barrier and microbiome. Redness - Cleansing skin prone to irritation is a juggling act. Sensitive skin should be nurtured with protective oils and cushiony feeling cleansers with low friction, which means no exfoliating grains or drying agents. The cleanser should have a neutral pH, or can be slightly acidic to repair the skin’s regulating acid mantle. Any prolonged redness, aka inflammation, means your cleanser is a definite no-go. Small Bumps - This will depend on what the bumps are caused from, however it is possible your current cleanser may be too abrasive, and regular exfoliating can encourage overstimulation that may lead to breakouts. The constant removal of the skin’s protective barrier means breakout causing bacteria may be introduced to the skin also. Dehydration - Cleansing can contribute greatly to skin becoming dehydrated. If your cleanser is stripping natural oils or is too abrasive, then water from within the skin may evaporate. Hot showers and water are additionally dehydrating, so replenishing lost water in the skin after cleansing is vital when supporting the skin’s natural functions. Stinging or Irritation - Some cleansers are far more astringent, meaning they contain moisture drawing ingredients such as alcohol or benzyl peroxide! These ingredients are used in many acne treatments to treat breakouts, but over time they can be very damaging and will dry the skin and cause irritation and further.
