07.01.2022 Have you outgrown your current home but don’t want to wait until you retire to build a new one? This couple had the same idea so we created their SEMI-RETIREMENT home on the coast. NORTHERN NSW COASTAL HOME... We've recently completed this quaint and private home for our semi-retired clients. We waited until they had established the surrounding gardens and landscape to see the final result....and.....we were impressed. The home had been designed to meet our clients requirements and needs. The home was to be a refuge away from busy traffic and being located in a secluded and hilly established landscaped development meant we needed to be sensitive to the existing environment and surrounding established neighbourhood. Being in this quiet location on the Northern NSW coastal region lent itself to be an unobtrusive and humble design. Our client insisted that views of the surrounding mountains to the West was a must, due to the historical significance of the surrounding mountains and the stunning sunsets throughout the year. Since our clients were not fully retired, the home needed to accommodate an art studio and include space for family visits during the holiday season, along with storage for their caravan and workshop, allow for outdoor entertaining by the pool, and provide comfortable and private indoor outdoor living spaces. The requirement for a single level home with no steps was a challenge considering the site was quite steep. We were able to accomodate the storage, workshop and caravan store under the home which then in turn provided the level platform for the living spaces and maximized the views to the West from the rear of the home. Open plan living and entertaining, with cross ventilation achieved by the strategic placement of sliding stacker doors to the BBQ, dining and pool area, and doors and windows opposite placed to strategically allow cool air to flow evenly throughout the home. The design and build budget was achievable and we were able to meet their budget. The best part is that by working with someone like myself, as an architect, we can plan and design within budget and fit in all of the requirements. Have you ever considered building a home before you retire?....With all those features and environmentally friendly options? Reach out or message me if you do because you may be closer to your dreams than you think.
