22.01.2022 Dear furry friends and their humans. If you (or your humans) plan to move to another place to celebrate the end of the stage 4 restrictions, this information may interest you. It is also always a great pleasure for us to share good news (in particular during these hard times). DOGS CAN SLEEP WELL.... From 2 March 2020 in Victoria, it is easier for renters to keep a pet in a rental property. They just need to get the written permission of the landlord but refusing such a permission will require approval from VCAT. Essentially, if your request is reasonable, the landlord cannot refuse it . Take care of yourself and of your humans. 15.01.2022 Got a new addition to your family during the lockdown? Offer your puppy appropriate and safe socialisation! While you discover the benefits of having a furry friend at home, adopting a puppy can also be challenging, especially in the current situation. Dog behaviour experts have discovered that the period before 16 weeks of age is crucial in puppy development, since their experiences and education during this time can remain imprinted as solid foundations for their entire ...lives. In order to grow a well-settled, confident adult dog, less likely to develop behavioural problems, offering your pup appropriate experiences cannot be delayed. However, be very careful... "familiarisation" does not simply mean "exposure"! Good experiences build confidence, but bad experiences build fear. This is why we do not recommend uncontrolled environments such as dog parks during this critical period. At Barkanine, we can help you in this process with our training daycare. Puppies are accepted from 10 weeks of age and stay under our supervision all the time. We offer them a safe place for socialisation and environmental enrichment, with an experienced human guardian and suitable canine elders. They will enjoy basic training and purposefully selected experiences, and socialise with other dogs in a controlled environment to build their confidence in a variety of circumstances. Please enquire today. The service is offered per day or per half day. Take care of yourself, your relatives and your furry beloved. Lorelle (0419 002 494) & Marc (0431 331 093) [email protected]

15.01.2022 Your furry beloved has too much energy and requests the long walks you offered them during the lockdown? Try Doggy-Bike and enjoy a symbiotic relationship during a ride. With suitable and healthy dogs, Doggy-Bike is a fun response to their excess of energy and a wonderful experience together. It is an amazing sensation to feel a perfect bond with your riding companion. In general, the dog will be much more focused than during a regular walk, reacting less to the environment ...and looking at you regularly. A bit like a jogging, but more demanding for the dog and less for the human. Be careful, this activity can be dangerous (for both) if done with a lack of care. This is not suitable for all dogs and the intensity should be adapted to their physical capabilities. At Barkanine, we are happy to do few rides with your dog and prepare them to the basic commands. You are then welcome to join to prepare you to enjoy this sport safely on your own. The first session includes an assessment of your dog for this activity and we recommend asking to your vet before. Take care of yourself, your relatives and your furry beloved. Lorelle (0419 002 494) & Marc (0431 331 093) [email protected]

12.01.2022 An example of socialisation session for Juna, 11 weeks. Bullet (6 months) has been taught to stay on his mat and is mostly reliable in this exercise (he is still learning). Here, we use this skill to offer to Juna a controlled environment to approach Bullet and play with him. Bullet is requested to stay on the mat (this exercise lasts five minutes) while Juna is free to come or to leave. Both dogs have been initially carefully introduced to each other. More than ever during t...he lockdown it is challenging to offer puppies proper environmental enrichment and safe opportunities to meet other dogs. Unfortunately, after 16 weeks, a poor socialisation may have consequences on the entire dog’s life. This is usually done from the age of 10 weeks in puppy schools or in few day-cares (like ours). But what about now? If you feel helpless in these circumstances, contact us on [email protected]. We can give you advices.

11.01.2022 Reacting to the vacuum cleaner is a very common behaviour based on fear. The dog may bark, bite the vacuum cleaner and damage the pipe or just hide in distress. In the worst cases, the dog may redirect and bite the human. In most cases, this behaviour is caused by a lack of environment enrichment before the age of 16 weeks. After this age, the solution requires desensitisation and training, which can be a long process with no success guarantee. Do not take the risk! In our t...raining day-care, all our puppies are offered various environment enrichment including the vacuum cleaner training. Please contact us for details. 04.01.2022 Dear furry friends and their humans. Please find below a message from Lorelle who ran Barkanine with me until now. Lorelle has decided to leave Barkanine for her own project. Thank you Lorelle, Pete, Jamie, and Kelly for helping us during this year, it was a great pleasure. Good luck for you new challenges. Marc & Misty, Barkanine. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone!... Well, what a year it has been! But us Victorian’s are tough, and we have shown we can come through anything stronger and better than ever. Marc and I have missed all of our doggy friends, and we can’t wait to serve you all again. Sadly, the COVID-19 lockdown has impacted Barkanine, just as it has so many other businesses. I regret to inform you all that I (Lorelle) will be leaving Barkanine, and returning to operating my sole trader dog walking and minding business (The Dog Remedy) which I operated before Marc and I joined forces. Don’t worry though, Marc is continuing to operate Barkanine and is ready and eager to accept clients! Marc and I remain on good terms, and I wish him and Barkanine only good things going forward. I have learnt so much from the experience of doing business together - thank you for being a great business partner Marc! To all of Barkanine’s treasured clients, allow me to say, it’s been my pleasure to get to know you and your beautiful fur-kids... it has been a privilege and gift to have been entrusted with their care. As the guardian of 3 special canines myself, I know how difficult it can be to even consider leaving them with someone, so I never take this honour for granted. Thank you, once again, for your trust, and for sharing your unique fur-family members with me. We are all still in this together, so let’s continue to support each other on the road ahead. Marc and I are here for you all, and we look forward to serving you the best we can, albeit as separate business entities. Perhaps our paths will cross again and I look forward to many sloppy kisses (from the doggos that is) if and when they do. Here’s to new beginnings and to us all rising from the ashes stronger, wiser, and more compassionate than ever. Here’s to our beloved fur-kids that have faithfully seen us through the worst. Cheers! With love and blessings, Lorelle, Pete, Jamie, and Kelly See more
