24.01.2022 Teddy bears can give a sense of peace, security and comfort to children who struggle in situations they have no control of. Last night was another wonderful meeting for Lions Club Barmera as Lions Trauma Bears were presented to the SES, SA Police and ac.care. We also heard a very informative talk from Brenton Chaplin of ac.care about the works their doing in the community and how fostering a child can make a big difference.... And finally to top it off, was Years of Service Awards that were presented to Judy Lokan for her 1st year, Vass Gorman for her 3rd year and Josie Springer for her 5th year. Well done ladies for your continuous service in the Lions Club. #LionsTraumaBears #MoreThanSausages

17.01.2022 We had the pleasure recently to attend the Girl Guides & present them with a $900 cheque for their services on our donut van at the Barmera Markets. As usual the event was a hoot with leader Sue organising a rendition by the girls of "The lion sleeps tonight" but with the words changed a little to include references to Lion's donuts.

17.01.2022 The Lions Skin Cancer Screening Team is coming to Barmera! 14.01.2022 Barmera Lions hard at it today with a working bee at the Barmera R/V park by the Men's shed. In concert with the Berri Barmera Council we set up the park about 4 years ago & financed the planting of the large windbreak of native trees which have flourished & in need of extensive thinning out. The park has attracted hundreds of travellers who had previously by passed Barmera as there was no public dump point but their presence has undoubtably brought big $$$$$$ into the town. A big thankyou to our team who turned out to clean up the park & also the donut van ready for the field days. Lions is a great community organisation - care to join us in helping our community?

14.01.2022 Barmera Lions Club together with support by the Barmera Community Fund have completed the purchase & installation of 6 recycled plastic seats along the lakeside. Official handover was celebrated recently with Lions members, President & Past President of the Community Fund Committee, & Mayor Peter Hunt. Good people who are proud to serve our community but we can always do with more help so ask us about Lions (we do more than cook the best donuts in the Riverland!)

13.01.2022 Our change over dinner was held in June and Peter Marks (on the left) was inducted as President for the coming year. On the right is past President John Hughes who had carefully steered the club for the past 3 years. (The face seems to suggest exhaustion) Peter also awarded John his 5 year service badge. Well done.

11.01.2022 We're back. Sorry for the long silence and here's a quick catch up on our activities. It's not all work and here's our Barmera members on the bus heading for a mystery dinner which turned ou to be at the Wunkar Pub. A great night & good tucker. Well done Scotty who also drove the bus which was kindly supplied by St Joe's primary school.

10.01.2022 Lions clubs collect used prescription glasses & hearing aids which are recycled & donated to needy people. Barmera Lions have a collection point at the Lake Bonney Private Medical Centre where you can drop off glasses & hearing aids to help us to help less fortunate people to see & hear. Alternatively, call Anne 0488183178.

06.01.2022 Another community service we have just completed is the purchase & installation of 6 new seats along the lakeside at Barmera. We are greatful of the support by the Whyalla Community Fund committee who contributed to the project, & the Berri Barmera Council who cast the concrete slabs. (While we were labouring in the cold a very kind passer by was impressed with our efforts & returned with hot coffee. Thank you Jenny) Sadly we are seeing the end of the old "Lion's head" seats which have become very hard to maintain. Here's the hardworking team having a well earned rest on one of the new seats.

05.01.2022 For the last 31 years Lions clubs around the world have proudly sponsored the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. The theme of the 2018-2019 Peace Poster Contest is "Kindness Matters." On display at the Berri Barmera Library Service are interesting peace posters created by some students from Barmera Primary School, Cobdogla Primary School and St Joseph's School Barmera. Come visit and have a look at our kid’s vision and understanding about Peace.

03.01.2022 Barmera Lions Club will be selling our famous donuts at the Riverland Field Days. Roll up, roll up & get them hot out of the cooker. (Sorry, the Lions food court is no more)

02.01.2022 Congratulations to all the winners of the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Thanks to all the schools, teachers and students who participated and put their time and effort in. We also extend our appreciation to the Berri Barmera Library Service for their continuous support.... #kids4peace #KindnessMatters

02.01.2022 Phew! it's been a busy year and we are looking forward to a break over the Festive season. At our last meeting, we were pleased to present a $500 cheque to Jodie from the Riverland Musical Society to help fund costumes for their next production "The Lion King" which will be in April 2020. Also, our District Governor Harry ter Bogt presented years of service awards to Lions Ruth, Barb, Bruce and Peter Marks. He also presented Chevrons to long serving members Kevin and Dick 45 y...ears, and Peter Marks 35 years. That's a lot of service to our community. A motion was passed to donate $500 to the appeal for bushfire victims. (And boy do they need help - if you would like to donate please call our Secretary Josie Spriggs 0438004990.)

02.01.2022 On Wed. 27th November Barmera Lions hosted a free morning tea for about 60 of our Senior Senior citizens at the Barmera RSL. A great time was had by all including Mayor Peter Hunt who was busy helping serve on tables. Many thanks to all our helpers (incl. anonymous in the big red suit) and also the RSL for their help.... We wish everyone a very happy and safe festive season.and look forward to seeing you at our famous donut van at the Christmas pageant on Friday 13th. of December. See more
