20.01.2022 We are please to announce that the Vice Captains will be playing at the Barnes Bay Regatta this year. Come along and join the celebrations as we mark the end of daylight savings, and another sailing year ! Barnes Bay Regatta 2020... It's not just about the sailing !!
19.01.2022 Young Magic goes Barnes-storming The heading ‘Barnes-storming’ in yesterday’s preview to the Barnes Bay Regatta proved prophetic for Peter Farley’s Sydney 36, ...Young Magic, the top-scoring Division 1 boat in the regatta down the Derwent and around the shores of Bruny Island. Young Magic won the morning ‘point-to-point’ passage race from Wrest Point at Sandy Bay to Dennes Point on the northern tip of Bruny Island on corrected time, then finished a close third in the afternoon regatta race. Conducted by Kingborough Boating Club, the Barnes Bay Regatta is the final yachting event of the summer with more than 50 racing and cruising yachts and motor cruisers last evening anchored off Bruny Island for prizegiving and barbeque at the old Quarantine Station. Young Magic’s young crew was among the first to hoist a spinnaker at the start of the passage race, giving them an early advantage in a fast run down the Derwent. Although passed by bigger yachts, Young Magic won Division 1 in a close race on corrected time from Liberte Express, skippered by Kingborough Boating Club Commodore Peter Williams, third place going to Philosopher (Shaun Tiedemann). In Division 2, Jane and Phil Mason and their young family crew sailed Athena, an Adams Traditional 36, to victory from Wild Goose (Ian Norris) and Breakaway (Victoria Logan). In the Barnes Bay Regatta race, the Lyons 40 Filepro, skippered by Tim Gadsby had an outright win in Division 1 from Southern Swordfish and Young Magic. In Division 2, Wild Goose won from Athena and Serenus (James Andrewartha), giving both Wild Goose and Athena a first and a second for the regatta. 18.01.2022 COVID19 UPDATE: Hi All, Just an update for you on the Covid19 situation.... The KBC committee are monitoring the situation and receiving advice specific to our event from a Public Health representative. At this stage there are no plans to cancel the Barnes Bay Regatta, the event is low risk due to the number of people involved and the fact that it is an outdoor event, however this may change over the next couple of weeks and we will of course heed all advice given to us. . We are reviewing this every few days and will keep you informed along the way. Obviously we would like the regatta to proceed, but not if it puts our members and guests at risk, so this will be the primary factor in our final decision. Best Regards, The KBC Committee.
17.01.2022 2020 Regatta Cancelled After careful consideration by the KBC committee, the Barnes Bay Regatta will not go ahead this year. We have been watching the COVID-19 situation daily and although our Public Health advice still indicates the COVID-19 risk is extremely low for our event, we don't want to put our members, guests and volunteers in an environment they might not feel comfortable in.... We also need to be able to enjoy the regatta properly, without concern about the COVID-19 situation that is unfolding around us, and that means this is not the right time to proceed with the event. We will arrange for refunds to those who have placed entries and paid online. Thank you to everyone who has been responding on Facebook and being supportive of the event.Stay tuned to Kingborough Boating Club Inc and Barnes Bay Regatta for more KBC events in the future, and we hope to see you again soon. Best Regards The KBC Committee
15.01.2022 Never Fear..there’s Corona Beer. At this stage, based on current recommendations the regatta is proceeding. However, the KBC committee is monitoring the situation and will be guided by public health advice. Stay Tuned !! ... We would also ask that if you are showing flu like symptoms you should be avoiding this type of event at the moment. More to come next week !
