24.01.2022 The words of owner Jon Perring: It’s a very scary time. The Live Music world is facing annihilation. I don’t want the Tote and Bar Open to become some a footnote in a book on the good old days.... We are losing gigs at such a rate that I will have to put off most, if not all our staff. This is the consequence of shows and gigs cancelling! 25% of the Australian workforce is casual. How will these people pay rent and eat if they can’t work? How will the bartenders, musicians, sound engineers, cleaners who work at the Tote and Bar Open eat and pay rent? They will not be able to survive. It’s possible that a sizeable chunk of that 25% of the casualised workforce and gig economy workers cohort will become homeless. How will they then be able to self-isolate? It’s a counter-productive public-health outcome. These are the consequences of over-reacting. Currently, the government has closed events over 500 capacity. This is based on their expert health advice and it’s the law. So, we are trading on until the time that the health authority’s edict that it is unsafe to do otherwise. We have no other choice! We have implemented a number of safety measures to fall in line with Government guidelines for social distancing. We are: reducing capacity to 1.5m person-to-person density, applying stringent hygiene procedures for serving drinks and cleaning, sterilising microphones, only accepting cashless transactions, and enforcing 1.5m customer distance from staff. So please come. Please play a gig. Come while you can and while it's safe. Please play a gig. We NEED you. Or this truly will be the day that the music died. Jon Perring

19.01.2022 The Four Scoops musical heritage harks back to a time of melting musical styles as Jazz met early Rock n Roll. They're playing in the front bar from 6:30 tonight. #freegigs #morethan2scoops

17.01.2022 Just as we were getting back into the swing of serving you up delicious, original, live music, we were SO rudely interrupted by a snap stage 4 lock down that saw the rescheduling of this TOP shelf gig.. We are delighted to have locked in our hot new date of SAT May 1st (MAY DAY!) Both the evening show, (SOLD OUT) and MATINEE (20 LEFT) will happen on this day.. All original tickets for both shows (Matinee/Eve) remain valid for their respective time slots.. ... We'd like to thank the bands and your fine selves for your patience and understanding around this re-schedule rollercoaster.. let's get it done this time... Take 2, ACTION!! So, grab a dancing partner and secure your tickets to our Matinee show before they are all snapped up.. Ticket Link https://baropen.oztix.com.au//72d4ae3d-0096-4e8e-bf68-05b4

17.01.2022 It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we shut Bar Open’s doors. For the greater good, the government says we have to. After 22 years of gigs, many of them free, to now close the doors, feels surreal. On Friday The Four Scoops killed it in the front bar. People danced in the street to keep distance. It was just like the band on the Titanic. We don’t know what the future holds but we are determined to fight on and we will do whatever it takes to reopen those doors. So, thanks t...o all the bands, musicians, bartenders, bookers, sound engineers, managers, cleaners, security guards, our business partners, industry advocates and to our loyal audiences and customers, over those 22 years. Look after yourselves and each over. Until another, better day. Cheers, Jon Perring and Sam Crupi Bar Closed. (for now).
