24.01.2022 Talk about stepping up big time! Last night the Centrals Lions held a trial game between their Premier League and Under 23 squads - and jumping in the deep end to ref the game was our own Tim Cox! First time reffing at this level, first time with FIBA timing, first time with shot clock, first time with a 3PO team (3 refs) and first time at this level of play! Very nervous beforehand, but thrived on the court, especially as the 23 lads took it up to their senior rivals and a...lmost caused a huge upset! 20.01.2022 BAROSSA SETTLERS JUNIOR TOURNAMENT UPDATE; As we all know, sadly the 2020 Settlers Junior Tournament can not be run this weekend due to COVID-19 restrictions - but - all is not lost, as at the moment the BVABA is looking at all options to re-schedule the 2020 Junior Tournament to a later date, and is working with many parties to find an alternative date - including SA Country Basketball, Basketball SA (in regards their district finals), fellow country associations and other m...etro carnivals! Due to the current situation, all current nominations will be refunded to the relevant associations/clubs/teams, but as soon as a date has been settled on, the BVABA will re-launch the tournament, with all of the current nominations, numbering some 80 teams, having first option to attend - and we would like to see you all visit the Barossa. 20.01.2022 TO ALL OF OUR SUMMER SEASON 2020/21 PLAYERS. Can you all please head to your Club's page/website and get the link to register for the upcoming season. Unfortunately there is no room in the timeline to extend dates - and as this season is looking to be another huge season, as much time as possible will be needed to set up the competition - and make sure we can fit everyone in with COVID restrictions now in play. ALSO - Stay tuned on Sunday night for an announcement on Summer Season 2019/20 Presentations - yep, we still need to do these as well - junior and senior champions & runner ups, junior MVP's and Referee Awards are to be presented!

16.01.2022 So, as the return to play gets closer with Summer Season 2020/21, Monday and Tuesday night saw a number of referee courses held at The Rex, with a total of 23 Barossa referees, and 1 from Adelaide Plains put through their places by Phil Haines from Basketball SA and Mike Richardson from SA Country Basketball. All up the Barossa had; 7 Level 1B referees - theory done, on court to be done during district games in the coming month, as well as online exam 4 Level 1C referees - t...heory done and 3 signed off on their on-court, so just the exam to go 1 green shirt referee getting closer to his Level 0 10 brand new referees - theory course done, online exam to do and 9 have started their on court. 1 new Grade 1 Referee Coach passed! A great result for Barossa Basketball heading into the new season - plus 4 more names for another possible Level 0 course before Christmas! Huge thanks to Phil & Mike, as well as Ben & Matt, Steve from Adelaide Plains, our referees who shadowed the newbies on court - and our Clubs, Tigers, Echoes, Bulldogs, Magic and TBC for helping out last night by playing games for our new refs! 11.01.2022 Well, part 1 of the 2021 Adelaide Invitational is now in the books! Huge congratulations to the Barossa players who pounded the courts at St Clair over the past 4 days; Louis Schell & Makai Dornford (U18 Boys), Shelbi-Lee Sutcliffe (U18 Girls), Beau Ryan, Mitchell & Riley McDonald, Tarik Sauer and Bryson Sutcliffe (U16 Boys) and Kassidy Ryan (U16 Girls), with Ben MacCulloch on hand as the U16 Head Coach, and Tom Richardson, Georgia Catto and Andrew Warnest also in attendance as referees or referee coaches! And after a rest day (Wednesday), the Under 14 & 15 competitions will start up and run until Sunday, and again, with a large Barossa representation! Huge thanks to AllStar Photos for the great pics!

08.01.2022 For everyone heading to St Clair from next weekend for the AIC - you may just want to be aware of the latest roadworks on and around South Road. Turning off the North-South Motorway onto the Port Road Expressway, and then turning onto Hanson Road may be the best way to avoid it! (Less than an hour travel from Angaston this way - depending on traffic).

06.01.2022 Huge congratulations to the BVABA's Tom Richardson, first time refereeing with 3PO (3 person) and was signed of on his Level 1B on court assessment - well done! Tom was joined by Georgia and Andrew, and with Georgia out injured, she spent a lot of time working as a referee coach to improve her knowledge, even spending time with WNBL & FIBA referee, Vanessa Devlin!

05.01.2022 Hi Everyone As a result of three of our major participation groups advising that because of the ongoing Covid-18 situation they are unable to nominate teams for... the 2021 Country Cup the Cup Directors have come to the inevitable conclusion that the event is now unviable and as a consequence reluctantly advise that the Cup will not be held in January 2021. We completely understand the reasons for the team withdrawals and also understand that this will be a major disappointment for all players, referees, coaches, support staff and parents. We would like to thank everyone involved for their support of the Cup in particularly our major sponsors Albury City, City of Wodonga and the Commercial Club Albury. 04.01.2022 While our local competition may have finished for the year, there were still plenty of the Barossa crew in action on courts over the weekend. All of our 20+ SA Country squad members were put through their paces at the final training camps for the year in preparation for the Adelaide Invitational in January - including the Under 18's pictured here (can you spot the Barossa kids?) who trained alongside their metro counterparts over 2 days. There were a couple of players who sui...ted up for the Lions Under 16 boys at the St Clair Christmas Carnival over the weekend - well done Braydon Schultz and Hudson Lindner (between SAC trainings), as well as Tyler Dewhurst who played in the senior men's comp for Moonshiners. And, a number of referees also pounded the courts at St Clair over the weekend as well - Tess Warnest, Shaye Thomas-Bache and Tom & Nick Richardson. Great to see Shaye back on a court again for the first time this year and well done to Tom & Nick who both reffed finals - Nick at his first tournament and Tom got the Under 18 Girls Div 1 final! 03.01.2022 Registrations for this night are due to close tomorrow night - but due to Clubs still sorting and looking for coaches - registrations will stay open until Tuesday, the 15th - BUT - coaches still need to register due to COVID restrictions and how many can fit in the room - people CAN'T just rock up on the night - no registration, no entry (These aren't our rules, it's just how it is now!) It is also a requirement for all BVABA coaches, especially new coaches, to attend one of these courses every 2 years!

03.01.2022 Well, after what has been one of the strangest years that all of us will, hopefully, ever experience, tonight sees the final night of basketball for 2020! From the record numbers of 2019/20 to almost matching that for 2020/21 after all of the issues with COVID-19, especially having to cancel Winter Season 2020, Barossa Basketball has showed what a strong association WE are! To that end, and on behalf of the BVABA, I would like to thank everyone for making 2020 happen; the BV...ABA Committee team (past and present), the clubs, the independent teams, the Settlers crew, players, coaches, referee coaches & rosterers, referees and scorers - as a team we continue to do great things with Barossa Basketball, and I look forward to that continuing in 2021 - and I wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas and a safe and enjoyable New Year.
