20.01.2022 As the Under 8s scheduled kick off time is *now* at Nuriootpa in Wednesday night Round 12 twilight action, we review the under 8 and under 6 Round 11 results from Saturday Under 8 Donuts 1 defeated Koalas 0 (ht 1-0)... Although another Brock Waples first-half goal separated these top-performing sides, some other notable efforts include Summa Smith for great positioning which allowed her to get a great shot right on target, denied by a spectacular save by the Koalas goalie Felix Hanton. The Donuts earned their result with fantastic effort and team-work. The second-half Koala goalkeeper Filippo Carboni tried to take matters into his own hands, running forward with the ball and almost scoring with an ambitious shot from half-way. Piranhas 2 defeated Fireblasters 1 (ht 0-0) The match between the feisty Fireblasters and passionate Piranhas was all tied up at half-time, then the floodgates opened after the break. The Piranhas kicked off the scoring through Tennyson Sieber who continued his purple patch of form. He slide tackled past the goalkeeper and skilful tackled the defence to get a great goal. The Piranhas Jameson Gray then kicked a cracker over the defence and goalkeeper alike for their second goal. A consolation goal from Tally for Fireblasters came from Lewis Birch’s corner to give the Fireblasters something great to cheer about. Round 12 and Grand Final Day In their final matches for the season at 5pm Wednesday night, the Koalas play the Fireblasters and the Donuts tackle the Piranhas, then Saturday’s encounters repeat between the most evenly-matched teams as the Donuts play the Koalas at 9am, then at 10am the Fireblasters will look to go one better against the Piranhas. Under 6 Galahs 5 defeated Willie Wagtails 4 (ht 2-2) The rain ended up being a fizzer but by the time the youngsters played, it started raining goals. Hendrix Sweeney continued his storm cell season with two goals in each half for four for the Galahs, while the Willie Wagtails shared the goals brilliantly between Alyssa Miller and Felix Hanton in the first half. Eddie Gill chimed in with a second-half brace to even the game, but the Galahs had one more up the sleeve to win on the scoresheet. The real winner has been football with the under 6s enjoying their own space to discover the beautiful game. The under 6 flock play their remaining games at 5pm Thursday and 10am Saturday.
20.01.2022 Move to Football SA - Frequently Asked Questions Q: Will you now have ‘try outs’? A: No. Try-outs (i.e. eliminating lower-skilled players) is against the Barossa United FC ethos. We do however strongly encourage families to register this October for 2021 squads to avoid disappointment. Once a squad is full, we would need many more registrations to get to a second squad in an age level.

16.01.2022 B20 reports - Under 11x Falcons 7 defeated Crocodiles 0 (ht 4-0) To the statistical observer, like the elusive cane toad of Truro, it would appear the humbly self-titled ‘Crappy Crocodiles’ have found life in the temperate zone difficult. Yet on a David Attenborough closer inspection, the weekly development of the all-girl hatchlings has been a marvel to behold. With new talent injected throughout the season and some young players, the Crocodiles have feasted on football less...Continue reading

13.01.2022 From last Saturday's exhibition match - photos thanks to Sharlene Sampson-Karger Entertainment the winner in exhibition match Barossa 2 lost to United 4 (ht 1-3) Goals: Barossa: Kurtz-Kaeding, Noack; United: Banks 2, Miller, Devlin... Best: Barossa: Halman, Williams; United: Sanchez, Banks, J.Lambert After a couple of weeks of the Colts struggling to overcome the over 35s, for this exhibition match the sides were blended with some special guests. Federico Arias Mina, Jake Cannon, Joel Halman and Alex Worrall joined in from the men’s side even though they were playing the following morning, while courageous women’s Dingoes players Mia Devlin and Mariah Rugari and surprise inclusion Diego Sanchez boosted the United lineup. Attacking midfielders Mick Allan and Jack Williams returned for Barossa, while Josh Lambert returned as the lightning interceptor in the United defence. As is his regal right, United’s forward duke Jason Miller was again first on the scoresheet. United winger Cooper Banks attacked constantly down his left wing supplied by Sanchez, Worrall, Cannon and centre-defender Nic Melaisis, marauding against Halman and eventually scoring United’s second. With the central playing surface loosened by the midweek rain, United’s defenders slipped at the critical moment opening the way for Barossa’s Raj Kurtz-Kaeding to open his side’s account. From a later goal kick, United goalkeeper Rikki Lambert passed to Hamish Reimers, then through a composed passing effort United worked the ball untouched from right defence to left wing for Banks to score his second. In the second half, Barossa fought back through a great finish from Campbell Noack to make it 2-3. The sides battled hard in the midfield and tested goalkeepers Matt Teague and Rikki Lambert, while central defenders Halman and Josh Lambert cleaned up the near their half-way lines and blocked shots inside the 18 yard box. Rugari passed confidently out of left back while Rikki Lambert played as a sweeping goalkeeper, pushing up to half way and intercepting outside his box. Allan eyed the opportunity this presented, firing some long-range shots over the goalkeeper. The slight breeze prevented Allan repeating his recent half-way scoring heroics. Allan then came close with a headed corner, then on a bustling forward effort, United’s Devlin punched home a well-deserved goal against physical opponents to show she will be a force to be reckoned with when women’s competition resumes in 2021.

11.01.2022 Winners! Barossa United FC are excited to announce we won the "Together We Get Up Again" competition winning a $350 kit from Elastoplast Australia & New Zealand Thank you! The question was 'what inspires your club to get up again?' "Barossa United are inspired by their Over 35’s, who overcome adversity every week just to take to the field. Despite hamstring injuries, rolled ankles, threats from their wives that if they get injured they’ll be in trouble, and a somewhat substandard level of fitness, they front up each week to play, have fun and laugh. They also really need more tape!"
10.01.2022 B20 Results from Saturday - Under 10 Hammerheads 3 defeated Lightning Wolves 1 (ht 1-0) The Hammerheads came to play with their season on the line against a Wolves team with a couple of key outs in Angus Hayes and Phoenix Adey. The Wolves were under pressure early as the Hammerheads pressed forward with Oskar Crowl and Elijah Lambert creating a number of chances. In the 9th minute, Lambert threw to forward Blake Rosenzweig who powered forward to score the Hammerheads’ opening... goal. Some good midfield and defensive work from Wolves’ Dom Palmer, with teammate Lucy Amos chasing hard up forward, kept the half-time scoreline 1-0. The second half was lit up by fantastic goal shooting, starting with a Lambert shot blocked then his rebounded shot high over the crossbar. Lambert then struck from long range beside the high right sideline, leaving Wolves shellshocked. However, Riley Throup was not going down without a fight and was quickest to react to a loose goal kick to intercept and score. The Hammerheads’ Oskar Crowl then killed off the contest with a clinical left-foot finish. The Wolves tried hard all game but struggled to penetrate a solid Hammerheads defence with Hamish Laidlaw and Jacob Kiel persisting all game. All up this good win for a gelling and improving Hammerheads team undefeated in four starts. The results also delivered an important wake-up call for the ladder-leading Wolves and extra spice for the final round. Raptors 1 lost to Rangers 5 (ht 0-2) The Raptors came to play and in a scintillating first half by both teams, the Rangers’ Cooper Zimmerman and Reeve Waples had the second-placed side ahead at half time. In another courageous effort by Raptors, William Ashmead’s goal for Rangers didn't deter them from pushing for a comeback. This week the VAR would not deny them on the goal-line, with Leo Garrett getting well more than the extra inches to score a very well-earned goal. In a polished performance by Rangers, Lucas Henschke and Ashmead scored to finish off the game. Round 12 and Grand Final The under 10 division goes down to the wire this Thursday night with simultaneous games at 5pm, with the Hammerheads facing the fearless Raptors knowing 3 points will place the surging‘Hammers in the grand final if the Lightning Wolves defeat the second-placed Rangers.

04.01.2022 Congratulations to the Foxes who were under 13 B20 champions. Here are some photos from the final week's action, and the write-ups of the matches from round 12 and Grand Final day. Some photos thanks to Sharlene Sampson-Karger. Foxes come good when it counts for grand final triumph Under 13: Foxes 3 defeated Team Speedy 0 (ht 1-0)... Goals: Foxes: Teague 2, Portnoff 1 Best: Foxes: Zac Miller; Team Speedy: Ella Dixon In the latter rounds of the season Team Speedy, Barossaroos and Bandits had pushed the Foxes into some closer results, challenging their unbeaten run. In round 11, Foxes lost to Barossaroos in a shock upset. When round 12 was cancelled on Thursday night due to rain, Foxes had not had the chance to find their mojo before the grand final. Team Speedy welcomed qualified finalist Remy Radford from the under 11 Dragons for this match and the Speedsters looked stronger in recent weeks with the inclusion of defenders Ella Dixon and Paul Herrman. The rain marred junior grade presentations but the sun came out for the 1pm kickoff of this grand final. The first half was a tight affair with both teams defending solidly, goalkeepers blocking shots and play swinging quickly from end to end. Foxes were first on the scoreboard after Henry Teague came off best from a scramble in the box, poking the ball into the corner from the left side of the box. His would prove to be the only goal of the first half, despite Isaac Portnoff and Noah King causing issues for the Speedy defence. The Foxes’ Zac Miller was dangerous across the midfield in the first half, and switched into goal in the second. Dixon may only have resumed playing several weeks ago, but played a blinder in this grand final to underline her talent. The Foxes took only seconds in the second half to strike again, Teague intercepting a pass and ran into the goal arc to power a strong finish past the goalkeeper. As the minutes wore on, Team Speedy threw everything at the Foxes defence with Daniel Robinson and Callum Geisler clicking in midfield and passing around opponents. Speedsters’ Fletcher Noack, Angus Reu and Flynn Palmai got shots on target only to be denied by Miller. Dixon took on all comers as a solo defender with her side pushing numbers up to get back into the grand final, thwarting counter-attacks. Even she could not stop the irrepressible Portnoff, moments before the final whistle finding his way through the defence and goalkeeper James Henschke’s legs to blast home the Foxes’ third goal. The Foxes' more potent forward line was the difference in this game in a great end to a highly entertaining and skillful under 13 B20 season.

04.01.2022 The Michael Anderson Award at presentations today went to Rikki Lambert. This season Rikki not only coordinated and provided valuable feedback in assisting our younger referees learn the ropes, he also composed The Leader articles. We've all loved the humour in the write ups, the thoroughness and the kids (and the big kids) love seeing their names in the paper. None of this was possible without Rikki's dedication and hardwork. Thank you and congratulations.
