25.01.2022 We held our last workshop for the year today. Native Bee Hotels (with Christmas decorations). They all turned out really great, even though we ended up not having time to go around the gardens and look for some potential residents.
25.01.2022 Yesterday we had our volunteer Christmas lunch and staff cooked and served everyone. After they've put so much work into the nursery and gardens in the past year, they certainly deserved to be spoiled for a change. We would not exist without the people, that share our passion in protecting and promoting the beauty and importance of the natural environment. We thank all the community groups, businesses, schools, childcare centers, bush playgroups, landholders, farmers, Frien...ds of Barossa Bushgardens, The Barossa Council, Northern and Yorke Landscape Board and Green Adelaide for their support. The whole team at the BBG are doing all the hard work for everyone using the Bushgardens to visit, learn, explore, play, relax and to get a greater understanding about local Barossa plants, habitat and the importance of the connections that we have with the environment. We wish you all a wonderful Christmas, hopefully with friends and family, and see you in the New Year! P.S.: Save the date: The BBG is turning 20!!! Help us celebrate on 16th May 2021 - Barossa Bushgardens Open Day and Regional Landcare Forum - featuring environmental workshops and presentations, citizen science, art/craft workshops, health and wellbeing activities, kids "stuff", music and much more...
24.01.2022 Did you know that wood smoke is more dangerous to our health than car exhaust fumes and that, just by burning our wood efficient, health issues can be avoided? Read the flyer for more information...
24.01.2022 We are collaborating with Barossa Enterprises to bring you a huge collection of boxes. Parrot, possum, bird, bat and planter boxes, as well as bee hotels, bird feeders and condiment holders. Barossa Enterprises is the largest employer of people with a disability and buying one (or more) of their products, will help them continue the great work they are doing in our community.
22.01.2022 Since there were no changes to the current restrictions, we have added 25 tickets to every session for our Nature Play Festival on the 1. and 2. October!!!
22.01.2022 Who would have thought that giving a Professional Development session to teachers could turn into a bee keeping course?

18.01.2022 The first day of the Nature Play Festival was great fun. Tomorrow is another day, so come down to the Barossa Bushgardens (even if you've missed out on tickets) and join us for more craft, nature play, mud, sand, books and more. Supported by Green Adelaide and the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board.
16.01.2022 Some of our volunteers asked for a chainsaw, so I gave them a chainsaw
16.01.2022 PLAYGROUP CANCELLED In response to the new SA COVID-19 outbreak, we have been advised to postpone playgroup until further notice. Hopefully if we all play our part we can return soon for a Christmas Bush Bash!
15.01.2022 Our newest addition in the Nature Play Area - a little maze. Nobody can get lost in there for now, but if the plants survive being trampled by little feet and grow into a hedge, we might need some signage in there.
14.01.2022 A great step towards sustainability...
12.01.2022 Tomorrow it begins... Bookings have closed but if you still want a ticket, either call ahead if we've got room in one of the time slots or just show up. We did leave some room for extra people. Very excited to see a load of kids there; learning, playing, getting dirty and creating. P.S.: The afternoons go until 4pm.
11.01.2022 We brought in the big guns, anyone want to guess why? We are not telling just yet, but will keep you updated on the progress.
11.01.2022 Look at this! Hard to believe how much work our volunteers are doing. So proud and honoured to work with so dedicated people.
10.01.2022 We've released a Barossa Bushgardens draft urban design framework, which includes how the precinct will be used today, tomorrow and into the future. Key recomme...ndations include better access for cars, bikes and people; development of the community volunteer precinct and upgraded signage and wayfinding. If you care about this regional native flora centre, take the time to have your say by 24 November, or find out more http://ow.ly/zkpJ50CaSDY

08.01.2022 Mental Health Week 2020 is coming soon! To promote awareness Seeds of Hope are collaborating with local Barossa Libraries inviting the community to "CREATE" a ...work in ART, POETRY or a STORY describing: "WHAT MENTAL HEALTH MEANS TO ME". They will be displayed during Mental Health Week, to inspire and connect our community. See details below, and post a comment if you have any questions.
06.01.2022 In February we participated in a citizen science project, Pesticide Detectives, as part of a RMIT University research program. Our volunteers went out and collected sediment samples in the North Para River at Research Rd. in Nuriootpa and Gomersal Rd. in Tanunda. We were looking if any commercially or household chemicals could be found in the waterway. The results are encouraging, because they didn't find any. ... From 85 samples tested, 32 tested positive (most in NSW and VIC). They found 12 different chemicals and even some heavy metals. If you are interested in the detailed results, click on the link. https://pesticidedetectives.com.au/results-all-rounds/
06.01.2022 Our Nursery Manager, Pam, went to Barossa Enterprises Incorporated last week and helped them propagate seeds for the Kangaroo Island Fire Recovery. Also, have a look at the great cheese boards they have made for us to sell - $15.

06.01.2022 The youth unemployment rate is through the roof and it will take a long time to recover. We are working on some ideas to get more young people involved in the Bushgardens and will keep you up to date on what is happening. Until then, please support The Foundations Project that will help prevent youth homelessness in the Barossa. https://the-foundations-project.raisely.com/
05.01.2022 Sunrise Summer Solstice Walk Sunday 20 December 2020 Barossa Community Labyrinth, 653 Research Road, Nuriootpa Gathering time: 05:30 (the labyrinth is sit...uated within the Barossa Bushgardens just north of the carpark and adjacent to the cycle/walking path) On this walk we will observe Nature’s cycle: the sun rising and the day waking, a golden time on the cusp of the longest day of the year. We will consider the sun as our source of light and life, filling us as we take a seasonal pause, listening to our surroundings and reflecting on our recent journeys. To conclude we will create a sun mandala, so bring some flowers and greenery, and a cushion. See more
02.01.2022 Need a Christmas present or just want to build a Native Bee Hotel for your garden. We had to postpone our last Native Bee Hotel workshop, so if you have missed out, why not come along to our last workshop of the year. Donations are welcome to help cover the cost of materials, but if you are a volunteer or member of Friends of Barossa Bushgardens, it will be completely free. ... We hope to see you there!

01.01.2022 So far we have been spared by the rain. If you need to get out of the house, we are at the @ Mount Pleasant Spring Fling until 1pm.
01.01.2022 This movie is seriously good. It shows the technology that already exists to revolutionise the way we grow food, without the need of artificial fertilizer, in a completely sustainable way that doesn't harm the soil. Very interesting... If you have seen it, let us know what you think!
01.01.2022 What a magnificent day. The children are probably sleeping very well tonight, the parents are busy doing the washing and the volunteers are exhausted after putting a lot of work into making Nature Play Festival happen this year. Thanks to everyone who came and made all the effort worth it. A special thanks to our wonderful volunteers and the The Barossa Council Public Library staff for creating a beautiful Nature Journal and bringing along a great choice of books. We hope to see you at our next Nature Play Festival and of course, anytime until then.
