25.01.2022 The weather over the weekend provided the perfect opportunity to head outdoors. Participants of the Gawler Saturday Weekenders group hit the courts for a game of tennis. David took charge of umpiring and did a fantastic job. The day finished up with a tasty BBQ lunch at Clonlea Park. The Gawler Weekenders offers a social opportunity for people to participate in recreational activities in the community and is a great way to make friends and have fun. If you would like to know more about the program, please contact (08) 8562 4855 or email [email protected]. #fun #gawler #barossacommunityoptions #communityengagement #friendship #tennis #sport #barossa #barossaenterprises

25.01.2022 Big freight win to help with Kangaroo Island Bushfire Habitat Rehabilitation project Freight is a big issue for Kangaroo Islands Bushfire Habitat Rehabilitation Project. The Barossa Community Enterprise program has to-date produced and donated 300 Pygmy Possum nesting boxes, 30 Microbat boxes and 20 Kangaroo Joey orphan pouch stands, which have all been delivered to KI at no freight cost, thanks to support from travellers to the Island. But as things ramp up next year, the co...st of freight, at $250/pallet, was looming as a major problem. Thanks to a generous donation of assistance, this potential issue has been alleviated for 2021! Startrack (a division of Australia Post), has agreed to sponsor a 12-month freight deal for next year and will fund the freight cost of 12 pallets of goods to the Island, worth around $3,000. Chris Lambert, Startrack's SA Branch Manager, said he's pleased to be able to help, as he understands the importance of helping Kangaroo Island to rehabilitate after last summer's devastating fires. Both Katie Welz from the KI Wildlife Network and Topa Petit from UniSA's rehab project team, are thrilled with Startrack's assistance and believe that it will really make a difference to their programs over the next year. 23.01.2022 Barossa Community Options were fortunate to have local Barossa chef Matteo Carboni, Co-owner of Casa Carboni Italian Cooking School & Enoteca visit, as part of the Cooking Program focusing on Pasta for the month of August. Matteo showed participants how to prepare fresh pasta (Fusilli) and how to make a white pesto to accompany the hand made pasta. Born and raised in Forli, Emilia Romagna, Matteo was introduced to making fresh pasta by his nonna Pia as a young boy, along with... the importance of fresh ingredients. His love of food is evident when teaching his techniques and it was an absolute pleasure welcoming Matteo along to BCO. All participants were absolutely fascinated with the entire pasta making process and really enjoyed how Matteo presented techniques and skills on how to prepare pasta at home. We would like to thank Matteo for taking time out of his busy schedule to show our participants these valuable skills. #casacarboni #pasta #loveourcommunity #cookingschool #angaston #barossacommunityoptions #barossaenterprises #supportlocal #localbusiness #cookingskills #ndis #italian #handmade #supportingpeoplewithdisability

10.01.2022 Our first consignment of nesting boxes was recently delivered to Kangaroo Island as part of the Kangaroo Island Bushfire Rehabilitation Project. The project has gained some great support over the previous months and we are extremely proud to partner with Barossa Bottling Services and Henschke, in the production of timber nesting boxes that are urgently needed on the island. Surplus timber pallets donated by #barossabottlingservices have been re-purposed to make Kangaroo Joey ...Pouch Stands. The stands assist orphaned Joeys survive their first few months. Prue Henschke, Henschke contacted Barossa Enterprises offering to help out, by donating back excess Hill of Grace wine boxes. Participants have adapted these boxes into homes for the endangered Pygmy Possum. These tiny creatures are the size of your thumb and for those that survived the fires are still at huge risk of extinction, due to the devastation of their habitat. Freight to #kangarooisland is expensive and proved to be a major hurdle in transporting the boxes to the island. Our friends at Kangaroo Island Brewery allowed us to "piggy-back" this first delivery on-top of pallets of beer that were leaving Barossa Enterprises (following a labelling job for the brewery). Our thanks to Denham D'Silva, Barossa Valley Brewing for personally picking up the consignment and transporting the cargo to the team on Kangaroo Island. We would also like to mention: #kangarooislandwildflifenetwork University of South Australia Trees For Life (SA) We value the support of our project partners, in re-establishing habitat for bushfire affected wildlife and are excited to start producing Native Microbat nesting boxes in the coming weeks. This project not only provides vital shelter and protection for fragile animals, it also provides meaningful activity for People with Disability that want to lend a hand after the devastating bushfires.
