16.01.2022 Congratulations to Stu Bourne from Soulgrowers, one of our winery partners, for being named as Barossa Winemaker of the year for 2020. He joins three other winemakers in our pantheon of wineries who’s wines we supply, that have been awarded this honour. They are Rolf Binder and Christa Deans from Rolf Binder Wines, and Tim Smith from Tim Smith Wines. This award recognises a Barossa winemaker who utilises premium Barossa grapes and who has made or is making a significant contribution to the industry in the areas of sustainability, research, quality, innovation or technical excellence.

The Barossa Valley is well known around the world for Shiraz. Some regard it as the producer of the best quality Shiraz in the world. The Shiraz grape, also known as Syrah, originated in the Rhone region of southeastern France and was brought to Australia in the 1830s by James Busby who is regarded as the father of Australian wine. James Busby... was, incidentally, also involved in drafting both the 1835 Declaration of the Independence of New Zealand and the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi. The flavour of Shiraz is strongly influenced by climate with a district difference between cooler climate shiraz and warm climate shiraz. The Barossa Valley Shiraz tends to full-bodied wines with softer tannins and jammier fruit with flavours of spice and earthy leather.
