15.01.2022 Reserves Write Up: A clash at Barossa's home ground saw Barossa United travel to Faith College for a home game against Unley United. Copping seven goals in the reverse fixture Barossa were wary of another poor result. The new surface saw Barossa take a minute to find their feet before defenders Adrian Walker and Ripley Scott sorted their offside trap. The two sides enjoyed end to end football with forward Adam Zanlorenzi and midfielder Daniel Wilsdon both getting shots awa...y. 30 minutes into the first half saw Barossa United concede a corner which Unley then converted with a classy header. 1-0 down against the top team. With heads held high the Barossa boys marched on. Unley went into the half time break with a single goal between the sides. The second half is where the cracks began to appear for a thinly stretched Barossa side. The home team held on for another 25 minutes before the floodgates opened. Splitting through balls had Barossa defence sprinting back to cover but the legs in the side couldn't last. A second goal came in the form of a through ball which couldn't be caught by Barossa. Third and fourth goals came from a failure to close down just outside the box - something which has plagued Barossa since Midway through the season. A fifth goal came from a howler of a backpass which saw keeper Patrick Dempsey succumb to the pressure of the Unley forward. Despite shifting the ball around well all game the Barossa couldn't reduce the deficit. The game ended at 5-0, a significant improvement on the last time the sides met. FT Barossa United 0 Unley United 5 (HT 0-1) Bests: D. Wilsdon, A. Walker, A. Zanlorenzi

10.01.2022 Firsts: Tanunda played host for the first time to a Barossa United home fixture, as the Barossa boys faced top side Unley United in a historic first ever match at Faith College. Barossa threatened early, drawing a couple saves from the Unley goalkeeper, with midfielder Matt Dyson striking a cleared ball over the crossbar as well. On 14 minutes Unley opened the scoring, drawing goalkeeper Adrian Walker off of his line and the Unley left winger coolly finishing past Walkers re...aching hand. Walker made a fingertip save against the same opponent minutes later, then released striker James Ruwoldt on his right wing. Ruwoldt got two heavy touches making a chance on his own, but just on the final lunge close to goal put his shot over the crossbar. On 27 minutes Unleys left winger struck again running at the goal thanks in part to the rub of the green. Barossa struck back minutes later with Paulo Correia earning a penalty at the top edge of the box. Ruwoldt stepped up to hit Barossas first home. Walker then intercepted an Unley break, and Barossas best on the day, junior central defender Josh Lambert, chased down and stopped Unleys double-scorer getting his hat-trick. After half-time Unleys left-winger sprayed wide near the penalty spot, then centre defender Joel Halman made a vital intercept off a controversial on-side call. An unfortunate foul just at the top of the penalty box saw Unley extend their lead to 3-1. Halman was on the double minutes later intercepting a clear goal chance. From the resultant corner, Unleys striker curled it beautifully to a glancing header, but Walker was equal to the task with a finger tipper over the crossbar to maintain the deficit. On 69 minutes the game spilled into controversy with Correia spat upon and the offender sent off with a second yellow card. From the resulting free kick, Ruwoldt was released wide unmarked, but his shot went high and wide to the right. Midfielder George Clarridges free header from a corner was saved on 75 minutes, then in an ugly tackle left winger Stu Shipway was crushed and went off with a serious leg injury. Unley hit the right upright on a rebounded corner, but on 85 minutes an offside flag was waved away and the ball slotted past walker for Unleys fourth. Nonetheless, the result with depleted numbers was a two-goal better outcome against the same side, giving Barossa plenty of positives going into their final two matches at home. BAROSSA UNITED 1 UNLEY UNITED 4 (ht 1-2) Goal: James Ruwoldt Best: Josh Lambert, Lenney Lower, James Ruwoldt, Joel Halman, Matt Dyson See more
09.01.2022 A great performance from the Barossa boys and we get a much deserved win in Round 1!
08.01.2022 Reserves A perfect day for football had the Barossa reserves side keen for a clash against ladder trailers, Andrews Farm. A 2-1 defeat in their reverse fixture had Barossa United hopeful of getting some points on the board, as well as some pride after a horrendous second half of the season. Good end to end football ensued, if not for a few less than savoury challenges from the away side. Half an hour in, a cross went uncleared from the left side and despite three Barossa play...ers best efforts, the ball ultimately scrambled across the line. Just on half time keeper Rikki Lambert was forced off due to injury, seeing Paddy Dempsey don the gloves for the remainder of the game. Despite the best efforts from midfielders Nathan Seychell, Haime Eder and Dan Cannon, Barossa couldn't get the ball out of their own half for much of the second half. With a horrible goal kick going wrong as Barossa couldn't control a bad bobble, Andrews Farm pounced on the mistakes of the home side. At 2-0 Barossa sprung to life, with substitute Jacob Cannon making mincemeat of the farmers defence. The pressure paid dividends when Cannon netted for the home team. With the Barossa hungry for more, the flow of the game changed sides, with chance after chance coming for the side. A late corner ball for Andrews Farm saw captain Ripley Scott header the ball into his own net, sealing the fate of the game at 3-1. FT Barossa United 1 - Andrews Farm 3 (HT 0-1) GOAL: J. Cannon BEST: Adrian Walker See more

04.01.2022 This week it's favourite with the ladies, Harry VDL!
04.01.2022 Firsts: Barossa United played host again at their clash ground - Faith College in their fixture against league rivals, Andrews Farm. A rough and tumble start to the affair, much like in the reverse fixture let the Barossa Boys know they were in for a hard fight. Quick end to end football had defenders Josh Lambert and Joel Halman chasing after strikers, while at the other end the silky smooth skills of Paulo Correia and brute strength of James Ruwoldt saw chances go the way o...f the home side. A deep cross from the farmers saw it connect with a striker to find the net, putting the away side up 1-0. Barossa came on the attacking press thereafter, with both Ruwoldt and defender Josh Lambert cracking shots inches over the bar. Unfortunately, the side couldn't convert, and another quick counter from the away side saw them convert a good cross. At half time the away side had the advantage and despite the Barossa's best efforts, the second half proved no better. A third goal for the farmers early on in the half made for a mountain of an effort for the home team to climb. A fourth goal came from a direct corner, bending it like Beckham into the net. From here, Barossa looked defeated with twenty minutes to go, and they were. FT Barossa United 0 - Andrews Farm 4 (HT: 0-1) BEST: Josh Lambert See more
