25.01.2022 Morning All, this has been Kangaroo week for us at BWR. A call from the Nuriootpa police at 0800 hours Tuesday morning with a young 1.2 kg grey joey whose Mum was collected by a vehicle on Old Bethal Rd Williamstown. Thankyou very much to our Police Department for the care and support of our wildlife. A young 800 gm (approx..188 days old)grey pinkie bought in by a local Lyndoch resident after Mum had a run in with a car at Tanunda. Sadly the little girl had a broken leg.... A very young Bronzewing pigeon was found in a carport at Altona minus its Mum. Now in care. A call to Williamstown with a Grey Mum who had clipped a fence and had spinal damage. Little joey now in care with Sue at Mt Pleasant.( Intensive care this little one). Our Rescue vehicle was serviced this morning by Robbie and Auto Masters of Nuriootpa. Thanks once again for keeping us on the road guys. Please support the local businesses who look after our wildlife. Vanessa and Kelsey enjoying caring for their little rescue wombat.(Sniff) A call out to Lawley Farm this morning to a young Boobook owl who has a nasty sore under his eye and was found on the lawn. Now in the warmth and under medication and we can only pray for the little guy now. Our big girl Bunty(Kangaroo) would really have made a good Mum. She comes in the back door and licks the new joeys as if they were her own! Cheers till next week The Barossa wildlife team.

25.01.2022 Snug not wanting anything to do with a Monday morning

25.01.2022 And then there was five! A lovely picture of our five little angels taken by Vanessa on the front lawn. BWR now has a total of four little boys and one girl weighing from 1.2Kg to 3.2 kilo. Definitely a first for us and a challenge to our experienced carers! I met a couple at Kapunda Saturday to collect our two latest arrivals who were found up near Kadina. Both Mums were vehicle accidents not very far apart. All little ones doing well. Several Rosellas and the first early... spring, baby Honeyeater(New Holland) brought into a house in Williamstown by a very gentle cat! And another little grey makes six, has just been bought in from Needles Rd Williamstown. Cheers from the Team.

25.01.2022 Here is a picture of our joey (Snug) learning to read at our Nuriootpa Library this week!

21.01.2022 Its only Monday and we are already chasing our tails.

21.01.2022 We would like to say a huge thank you to the sandy creek scouts for their kind messages. The cards you have all sent really brought smiles to our faces. Cheers from the BWR team.

20.01.2022 Afternoon to all of our BWR Friends, Due to the lifting of the Co-vid restrictions a group of us girls made a trip to Wombat Rise Sanctuary near Sedan with approx.. 500 dollars of drought relief food for the hungry wildlife. The carers off loaded Lucerne/Roo pellets/Bread/apples and pears for Bob to distribute to the wombats, kangaroos and other wildlife in need. Over the past months there have been up to fifty animals coming into the paddocks looking for food. After re...ceiving a grant the BWR we were able to help out. After the recent rains the paddocks were just beginning to show a tinge of green. Yippee! Here is a picture of a wild wombat checking us out when we turned up! Another large Echidna was brought in by Kelsey and the boys returning home off the Williamtown Road. Many quills missing and damage to his snout. Fingers crossed that he can be saved. Over to Doctor Dave (Gawler Animal Hospital) to be checked out. Several birds coming in with damaged wings by vehicles as usual. Another Muscovy duck just sitting on a backyard deck in Evanston Park. Sami showed us her skills in catching her with the net. Anyone missing this one? Our little rescue kitten has now found a good home with Bri and her family! Quite often we get kittens that need a new home, so if you would like one you can give us a call to be put on our waiting list. No-one claimed the other duck that was found in Lyndoch and so he went off to his new home this afternoon. Cheers from the Team.

19.01.2022 Morning All, Here is the latest update. By the way the wildlife did not get any Easter eggs, Kelsey and Vanessa would not share!! A big thankyou to Karen who won an online competition with Linfield wines and donated the prize money to BWR. Another pretty quiet week here until 4 pm on Wednesday when we had three new critters needed caring for, one after the other. A musk Lorikeet came in from Penrice after taking on a vehicle and a very dehydrated sandwich plate size turtle ...was picked up from Gawler Animal Hospital. So we now have two turtles looking for new homes. Any takers? A very young western grey pinkie(650gm) girl was found near Sedan and dropped off at the Paralowie vet and transported by the nurse for collection in Williamstown . Always touch and go when they are this little but we are keeping fingers crossed. The two deer (Clover and Bobbin) have now gone back to their home. Sadly we miss them but on the bright side we are now hand rearing two baby goats. The children love giving them their bottles! Cheers for now from the Team.

19.01.2022 Good Morning Everyone, Here is the latest blurb on what we have been up to! Many ,many ,many little birds coming into care over the past weeks. Blown out of nests, too young to fly and also some with vehicle damage.... Two little Ducklings were saved from a fox in Flaxmann’s Valley. Sadly Mum was not quick enough. Jackie our resident rescued magpie and his friend were both attacked by a fox in the backyard and have passed away. In a busy main street of Lyndoch and we are not immune. Guess Mum fox has to feed her little ones! A young Emu found at Marion Bay has come into us for a check over by a couple of young Lads who are going to raise him on their farm. I received a call out to a Evanston Gardens home where a young Koala was found in a small fruit tree in the backyard. Not quite sure what she was thinking! Checked the teenager over and released her back at Deadman’s Pass the following day. This location is about the safest and closest to where she was found. Many calls have been coming in for Kangaroo’s that have been collected by vehicles. Please drive carefully. Cheers from the BWR team.

18.01.2022 Hi all, It has been another week of joey kangaroos coming in for care. There seems to be a lot of Mums out there not looking before crossing the country roads. Please slow down especially in the early mornings and around dusk on the Barossa roads. Goldfields and Pimpala Rd Cockatoo Valley are popular for them to be on. Our beautiful Koala Humphrey from Evanston Gardens, three weeks ago has now been released back at Deadmans Pass. Thanks very much to Wayne and Lynette for g...iving him the love and care he needed to be well again! In care over the past ten days- A Boobook Owl from Kapunda with poisoning. Several Brushtail possums from Angaston and Midway Rd vet. With old age issues. Joeys- 710gm Euro from Cockatoo Valley 1.2 kg grey boy and also a 2.2kg from the Goldfields 3.3kg grey girl from Vine Vale 700gm grey boy from an Eden Valley vineyard A call out to a residence in Angaston last week to a couple of Wood Ducks with ten ducklings using the swimming pool without paying! What will be next? Several Magpies ,Doves baby birds and a Currawong also. The Echidnas are on the move again and will wander through the gardens looking for partners so if you see one please leave your dogs inside and let them go on their way. It is now officially Spring and the Team of BWR are off to a busy start! Cheers from all of us. Stay safe. See more

18.01.2022 Afternoon to you all, Kristy removed the strapping on the young Piping Shrike last week and low and behold the little one flew straight off! A good outcome. With lots of love and care another one of our critters has been released back to the wild. Kelsey and Vanessa have been given a 4kg Hairy Nose wombat to hand rear from Wildwood Sanctuary and are over the moon. The little girl (Willow) had lost her Mum up at Sedan and was bought into care. (Just on the quiet I have been ca...ring for wildlife for over thirty years and never been given the opportunity to hand raise one of these little guys! Sniff) Well done Girls keep up the good work. A young Boobook owl was caught up in a fence at William Creek and was rescued by a road grader driver and spent several days in the cab before reaching the local pub. Upon hearing the story a local couple from Lyndoch said we can get help for it back home at Barossa Wildlife Rescue and so the road trip began. Sadly the little guy passed away not long after reaching here. That about wraps up another week for us Cheers. See more

17.01.2022 Morning All, The past week has been a little busy. I was called down to the river near the Bakery in Williamstown by the Barossa council to a water wren who was caught in fishing line .Some young children playing and catching fish must of left the branch with line on in the river and the unfortunate wren had the line tied around both feet and tongue. I really need my young carers for these rescues as I nearly fell in and made a spectacle of myself! She has made a full recov...ery and taken off at a fast pace back to the water. Afterwards I headed out to a property where I checked out a young kangaroo who was a bit wobbly on his feet. Simon attended an echidna who was driving the house dogs mad barking. He was trying to burrow under their house in Lorke St Williamstown and has now been relocated into the Altona Landcare reserve. The following day another younger echidna was brought in off the Tungkillo road after being clipped by a car minus a few quills but should make a full recovery. Nina the grey kangaroo who Kelsey and Vanessa were hand raising has now gone down to Wildwood Sanctuary to be with other young roos. Tears all around for us girls as we get so attached to them! Cheers for now from the BWR Team.

15.01.2022 On Monday our koala in care gave the stamp of approval on our new koala enclosure. Thank you so much to Simon and others for all there hard work on building this enclosure.

14.01.2022 Make sure to stay cool and hydrated, as the first day of lockdown is gonna be a hot one. Snug likes to find unconventional ways to stay hydrated

14.01.2022 Another Friday is upon us, Our rescue echidna was de-ticked last week with a lot of critters being extracted from him. These little guys burrow in between the quills and are hard to extract. Simon( A big hug to you from over here) has finished the Koala enclosure and our first koala is now in residence and seems pretty happy with his temporary home. The BWR Team was invited to the Mt Pleasant CFS cadet meeting on Monday night to hear a talk by Savem and to show some of our wi...ldlife. A good time was had by all and thank you for the kind donation. Wally the wombat has now gone to his permanent home at Wildwood Sanctuary(Sniff) and also two grey western joeys also on their way! Two emu eggs were handed into the Nuriootpa Vet during the week found near a walking trail and we are now trying to incubate them. Might need lots of luck with giving these a go! Today a young fella came across an orphaned joey about seven months old while pruning the grapevines near Springton and is now warm and snuggled up in his new pouch. Each week seems to bring us new experiences and challenges and we never stop learning! Cheers The team.

14.01.2022 Afternoon Everyone, Here is the latest update from the Team! Many galahs have come in from the Andrews Farm area with mild poisoning. They have now made a full recovery and have been released. The brushtail possum found in the outside clothes dryer in Salisbury Downs has been found to be a Mum with Bubs in pouch and has been checked out by the vet with a sore on her leg. All the rescue kittens have now found new homes. Thanks to all who wanted to give these little guys a n...ew start. I met with Lola from the Morook Animal Shelter in Gawler last week to hand over an excess of animal blankets /dog food and washing powder which had been donated to BWR and not needed. Please support this shelter as they are doing it tough as well! A little 1.2 kg grey joey (about three months old) was delivered to Kelsey in Nuriootpa about 11:30pm last Friday night after the driver collected Mum with his car near Kapunda. Well done to that caring young man for not leaving the little one on the side of the road. Unfortunately accidents do happen and kangaroos will jump out in front of vehicles. Thanks to our workers who turned up for the working bee on Saturday. More progress has been made on the Koala/Echidna enclosure and more to come! Cheers Rose

14.01.2022 Morning all, This year we are having an online raffle to raise funds. Further details will be coming out soon. A couple of small local businesses owner’s have donated towards the raffle and we hope you will also support them. Lot’s of wonderful prizes this year and also a great variety of goodies. A big thankyou to everyone! BWR received some lovely cards recognizing our wildlife work in Australia from over the other side of the world (California!) Much appreciated. Thankyou ...Campbell Hall school. Cheers from the Team.

13.01.2022 Who ever said cats were lazy? This is Nimbus, Janaya’s cat.

13.01.2022 Our resident magpie Jack (Jackie) feeding his newly adopted baby.

13.01.2022 Here is the latest from Barossa Wildlife Rescue, A young grey pinkie was found in the middle of Pimpala Rd at Lyndoch late last Wednesday. Mum must of being chased by a dog and so threw the baby out of pouch onto the bitumen. A very batted and bruised little girl with a broken front leg. Sadly she passed away before Dr Louise(GAH) could operate. Kangaroos will throw their babies out of pouch if there is a threat to their young ,then take off to head the danger away and cir...cle back for them. In this case the joey would have been too young to get back into pouch and would of passed away. Another grey kangaroo was collected by a truck on Siegersdorf Rd and a little grey boy about a kilo. He was bought into us for care. Sadly another grey girl was brought in for care from a deceased Mum between Keynton and Angaston. A father and children on the way to school stopped to assist and saw Mums pouch wiggling away and quickly phoned BWR for advice. I talked Dad through how to cut the teat and wrap the little girl warmly till he could get her into care with our girls in Nuriootpa. Well done that Dad! Bet the children had a great story for all their mates at school! Both homeless ducks off to a new home in Cockatoo Valley and have heard from Bri who gave the orphaned kitten a safe home. Another very busy week for the BWR Team. We have a few new kittens needing new homes. Please give us a call if you would be interested in adopting one. Cheers From the BWR team.

12.01.2022 WILDLIFE FACTS: Did you know that Echidndas do not have teeth and therefore cannot bite through wire! They can dig under fences or climb them but cannot chew through them!

12.01.2022 Here are a couple of our rescue echidnas acting like drop bears!

11.01.2022 Afternoon All, Another lovely day in the Barossa Valley! Mainly birds in over the past week and call outs to several kangaroo’s needing help. A very sick grey Roo was found in a horse stable in Williamstown. Simon to the rescue again. Kelsey and I headed out to a Kapunda homestead on Saturday to collect a grey Roo who had been collected by a vehicle. Lynette brought in a Boobook owl caught in barb wire fencing from Watts Gully road and also a young Galah was bought in from Tr...uro with a damaged wing. Off the Gawler Animal Hospital for Dr. Louisa to X-ray all three but sadly only the Boobook came home for rehabilitation and is doing well. A baby Ringtail possum was found on a fence post abandoned by Mum in Tanunda. A small turtle was found in a Lyndoch backyard and is now looking for a good home. Any takers? A young pied Currawong was found on the Wirra Wirra Road not quite at the flying stage. Yesterday I received a call from a Willaston homeowner with a full grown Euro(the smallest of the Kangaroo’s) in the backyard. I rounded up the Troop’s (Simon and Abby) and off we went with the nets, bag and gloves for the rescue. Simon did all the hard work of course while Abby stood there and told us that she was the Media. Great help Abby! Off to the GAH for further X-rays and then Kelsey and I released her into the Sandy Creek Conservation Pk. Never a dull moment here!!! Oh by the way BWR desperately need a handy man to help with odd jobs around the yard. If you can donate a couple of hours a fortnight it would be gratefully accepted. I can provide the beer afterwards! We would also like to say that we are an essential service and if you do find any sick or injured wildlife please don’t hesitate to call us. Stay safe. Cheers from the Team!

10.01.2022 A huge thank you to Tayla (pink jumper) and Savannah (blue jumper) for selling cupcakes in order to donate money to Barossa wildlife Rescue. Here is a picture of the girls with our newest arrival Benji. Well done girls!! Cheers from the BWR team.

10.01.2022 Update from BWR for the past week. FOUND This duck was found sunning himself on the porch of the B and B next door in Gilbert St. Lyndoch. Now in our care until the owner claims him/her? NEW HOME NEEDED For our little orphaned kitten. Must go to a responsible home where she will be vaccinated, microchipped and desexed. The past week has seen us carers travelling around checking out joeys that have been caught in fences. Mum jumps the fence and does not realise that her l...ittle tacker cannot jump as high as her and so gets stuck in the fence. Quite often we have to deal with damaged legs that cannot be fixed. A very sad outcome. Before erecting a fence please consider if it is really necessary and please do not use barb wire as it shreds our wildlife to bits! A half drowned kookaburra has been bought in from a water trough in Cockatoo valley and has now recovered enough to be able to be released. The echidna from Tungkillo with minor quill damaged has been released back into the wild. A property owner from Sandy Creek has been distressed to find an old man kangaroo deceased on the property and good old Reuben to the rescue again! Several reports of damaged galahs have come in from Eden Valley and Sandy Creek this week. Thats about all for now. Cheers from the BWR team

10.01.2022 Morning All, Another busy ten days at BWR with lots more happening. Many fledglings are still coming in blown out of nests or abandoned by Mum’s. A call out to a very sick koala in Cockatoo Valley, sitting on the front porch and drinking lots of water a few Saturday’s ago. Wayne and Lynette took him into the Koala Hospital for assessment and was found to be in terrible renal failure. Thanks very much to this special couple who care for our wildlife. If you see a Koala on the ...ground that has been there for many hours please call it in and put down a bowl of water for them. They are not tame and are in need of help. Please do not think you can pat them as they can use those big front claws and teeth to cause damage! A Kookaburra flew into the pool at Jacob’s creek retreat after spotting a small snake he wanted for dinner and came out second best with a near drowning. The owner’s brought him in and a few day’s later made an amazing recovery ( Sure surprised me as I thought he was a goner!) Last Friday I had a call from a lovely Lady on Balmoral road in Cockatoo Valley where the neighbor’s had not contained their dogs and a young Kangaroo was attacked. The Joey was taken into GAH where she had surgery for some nasty bites .I cannot emphasize enough that you move to the country, you learn to live with our Wildlife not the other way round! The little girl is in care here and doing well. Sadly she is missing her Mum but if returned back where she was found, I am not sure she would survive. On some good news, BWR has been able to release a turtle ,two older wood ducks, three magpies, two Galah’s ,one blue tongue Lizard and a Partridge in a pear tree! (Oops sorry about that. Must be getting close to Christmas!) Please buy some ticket’s in our Christmas raffle this year as we have some great prizes. All the money received will go towards our Wildlife and so the more you buy the more critters we can help! www.rafflelink.com.au/barossawildlife. If you would like to make a donation here are the details; Southern Barossa Alliance. NAB. BSB.085599 a/c .946543997 and please state that it is for the wildlife. Many thanks and cheers from the Team!

10.01.2022 Morning to All, Lots happening again this past week. Kelsey has been the busiest of our carers with the council crew bringing a dead mother kangaroo to the front door with a joey in pouch. The boys were very interested and asked lots of questions when he was retrieved out of the pouch. It is so good to be educating our locals in the Barossa about their wildlife. An easy delivery by Kelsey however her skills were really put to the test when a deceased mum Brushtail was bought... in with young in pouch after being attacked by a dog. An incision was made and bubs carefully extracted from the pouch. Well Done! Released this week back into the wild two Galahs and a Rosella all as good as new. Several birds needing care also in this week. Also a Tawny Frogmouth was taken into Gawler Animal Hospital with a badly damaged old leg wound which was then amputated by Dr Steve now in care. Thanks to the team from Heinrich Cooperage Tanunda who had a working bee in the grounds of BWR on the 6th August. The kangaroos can now travel though their yard without having to worry about the stinging nettles! Hope to see you again soon. Here is an X-ray of our echidna who had a run in with a car and taken to the Angaston Vet Clinic for a check over. Thankyou to all the Vets and nurses for their continuing support. Cheers from the Team for now!

09.01.2022 Kitten looking for a forever home. Will only go to responsible owner. Details: Male... Siamese x Has had first vaccination and microchipping done. 9 weeks. Please ring Rose if you are interested.

09.01.2022 Morning, Thanks very much for all your support last week when I had to vent but we spend quite a bit of our time saving our wildlife. Well it has been ten days of baby Ravens, Piping Shrikes and Ringtail Babies. Another nest down of baby Rosella’s now in care. Ugly little blighters with little feathers. Only a Mother could love them and I guess we just do! Advice given out for a baby Raven stuck in a chimney, Several calls to Kangaroo’s in distress out on the Highways, one w...ith a joey at foot, near Sedan called in by a member of the public and Mid Murray Council another. A vehicle collected Mum and Dad Plover at Moculta leaving four little orphans. Thanks Daniel and his Girl( Oh and their little man!) for bringing them in for care! Thanks to all our carers for helping out at this busy time of the year .You are always very much appreciated and do a great service to our Community! Until next update Cheers The Team

09.01.2022 A good morning all, A big thankyou to the students (Lexi and Alex) and parents (Jennifer) of Immanuel Lutheran school Gawler who held a bake stall last week to raise funds for BWR. They raised $204.75. A great effort from all! Last month we had a total of 71 rescues and 33 calls for advise and so have been very busy. An unusual call came in during the warmest day last week from Nuriootpa. A Brushtail possum was reported in a drain pipe and so off went Simon with his tool cutt...er to release the little fella! Duckling’s, Lizards and birds all coming in for care. A 187gm kitten was found abandoned in a garden on Gilbert Street. Four young Rosella’s, a Galah and Magpie have all been successfully released after time in care. A grey Joey 3.5kg was brought in from Tungkillo after losing his Mum. This year we are again having a Xmas Raffle to raise funds for BWR. Vanessa has rounded up some really good prizes all well over a hundred dollars each. Beauty products, Dining vouchers a gift pack from GAH, goody bags from For Pets Sake, Grog of course and heaps of other goodies. Fifteen prizes in all! Tickets are two dollars each or six for ten and the raffle will be drawn on 19th of December. Tickets will be available from Rose in Lyndoch, Vanessa at Angaston Terry White Chemmart and Kelsey in Nuriootpa, if you would like some please get in contact. Cheers from the Team.

08.01.2022 Our Rescue kitten Tabitha after her big day at the vet. Now desexed, microchipped and registered.

08.01.2022 A big thank you to Kas from K&R produce who donated boxes of large carrots to Barossa Wildlife Rescue. The animals and volunteers are delighted!

08.01.2022 Never leave your gloves lying around. Now I need to buy new gloves - Kelsey

07.01.2022 Afternoon everyone, Here is the latest update of what we have been up to. A Piping shrike came into GAH with a broken wing and was strapped and Kristy has been caring for him. The bandage will come off this week and we will know if he has healed enough for release.... A call out last week to Goldfields Road to a young girl who found a kangaroo who had clipped a fence and had spinal damage. Reuben to the rescue again. There was a joey in pouch that sadly had passed away. A Mum brushtail possum(car accident) was dropped off about 9.30pm last thursday with bubs in pouch a little 105gm healthy girl. Thanks for caring Jean! Sara from Tungkillo (one of our regular wildlife finders) bought in a Sulphar crested cockatoo on her late night trip heading to work. Just keeping an eye on this one as he has concussion.(another car I suppose) Thanks to all our friends out there who have donated food for our wildlife. Every bit helps! Cheers till next week.

07.01.2022 This kitten is looking for his new forever home. Details: Male Half Siamese ( not sure what he is crossed with).... 8 and a half weeks. First vaccination and microchipped done. We will only give him away to a responsible owner. Please call if interested.

07.01.2022 Tips on checking out our injured wildlife. 1. STOP IN A SAFE PLACE. Take care not to endanger yourself or others by stopping your vehicle suddenly in a dangerous location.... 2. APPROACH WITH CAUTION. Approach any wild animal with care. Kangaroos particularly are capable of lashing out with their powerful hind legs, even if severely injured. Most animals are able to inflict nasty bites and scratches especially when frightened or in pain. 3. IF THE ANIMAL IS DEAD. Check the underbelly for a pouch. Animals such as kangaroos, possums and wombats carry their young in a pouch. A bulge or movement inside a pouch may indicate live young. Gently remove the joey, taking care not to further injure the animal. An animal that has been dead for several hours, even overnight, may still have live young in its pouch. 4. KEEP THE ANIMAL WARM. A cold animal that is sick, injured or orphaned will stay cold unless it is heated by some external heat source. Wrapping the animal in a towel or jumper alone will not make it warm. Small animals can be placed under the front of someones jumper. This is a safe and reliable heat source. Alternative emergency heat sources are hot water bottle or other plastic container filled with warm water, or an electric blanket on a low or mid setting wrapped in a towel. The animal must not be placed into the heat source. Take care not to heat the animal too quickly and avoid extreme fluctuations in temperature. Ain for a constant temperature of 30-32c. 5. KEEP THE ANIMAL QUIET. Native animals are easily stressed and this along may be enough to kill the animal. Keep it as quiet as possible, away from loud noises, and do not allow children to play with it. A joey requires the same care as a premature human baby. 6. SEEK IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE. An animal will suffer in much the same way as a human. Seek immediate veterinary assistance if the animal is injured and call your local wildlife organisation.

07.01.2022 Can everyone on our page please keep a look out for my lost eclectus parrot gizmo please, he went missing in saddleworth. He is extremely tame, talks and will s...tep up. He will bite if you try to pat him but he will happily sit on you without biting. He is my baby and I am devastated. We are offering a $100 reward for his safe return. Please share this far and wide so we can get my baby back. See more

07.01.2022 Welcome All, Another very busy week for us at BWR. Most people seemed to like our video of the Magpies(lovely birds). I will try and get more videos up on the page. Here is a picture of the Ringtail triplets that came in for care after a dog attack on Mum. It will be an uphill battle as these little guys weigh in at only 25gms. Thanks to Nuriootpa Vet for passing them on. A Magpie from last season has come in with three quarters of her top beak missing and I have had a consu...lt with the Vets. at GAH about reconstructing another one. Sadly this was not viable and so will lead a life of luxury at BWR with all the food she needs! She has survived by throwing her meat in the air and then catching it. These are incredible birds. And then there were six! The week of the Echidnas. These guys were on walk about looking for mates and sadly have been collected by vehicles. Luckily they have come through their ordeal with only minor damage to their snouts. All have had x-rays, a week of care and have now been released back to where they were found, well away from the roads. A truck driver was travelling down a dirt road near St. Jacobi school when a baby Ringtail possum landed in his lap and scared the begeezes out of him! The little one must have had good timing to fall off a branch and in through the open window! Our wildlife never fails to amaze me. Released over the past week, 1 Rosella 1 Galah 1 Blue Tongue lizard Our Koala found in Lyndoch has been released at the Whispering Wall as there was not many gums where she was found And of course the 6 Echidnas Another productive week for the Team. Cheers See more

06.01.2022 Last Sunday we had a very special visit from Harry Martin and his Dad Colin. You may of seen Harry on the news when He had his Make a Wish granted at the South Australia Police Academy. A day in the life of a Policeman!

06.01.2022 The signs that Winter is here! You check for eggs in the chicken coop only to find your hens keeping a Brushtail possum warm.(Greenock) When putting clothes in your dryer check for Wildlife first! (Salisbury Downs)... Cheers from the BWR team.

05.01.2022 Here is a photo of the local family who hosted a Christmas in July at home and donated supplies to the Barossa Wildlife. Everyone had a lovely time seeing and cuddling the animals afterwards. Thankyou to Nicole Emes, Daniel Emes, Patricia Crompton, Helen Kendall and Ron Kendall.

05.01.2022 If anyone can help us out with any of these items. All donations will be greatly appreciate. Cheers from the BWR team

04.01.2022 Afternoon to you all, It is Spring and here we go again for another packed few months with little ones coming in for care. The Echidnas are still wandering the streets looking for the girls and are coming in with damaged snouts after taking on vehicles. Another one on the the way from Stockwell Rd Penrice as I type this message. Fingers crossed we can get this little guy up and on his way again soon. A 3.2 kg (approx .eight months) red joey girl has come in from Shooters ...up north who dont seem to have a care for the Australian Wildlife. I would like to swear but my Grandchildren might pick the words up and report me to Mum. A Ringtail possum was found in a bin at Bridgestone Tyre Centre Nuriootpa covered in oil and has now had his bath. Poor little blighter! Alex (Vet. Nurse) from Nuriootpa has been handraising a baby Ringtail possum that she has now been handed onto BWR for further care. Little Macey. A job well done Alex and thankyou for giving us this opportunity. Will keep you updated on her progress. Many birds, ducks ,lizards ,possums and Echidnas again in this week for care. A late visit about 11pm on Thursday with a young man on his way to work who came across a young Koala sitting on the road outside the Lord Lyndoch Restaurant! Think she was after a late night snack! Now in care with Wayne and Lynette after being checked by GAH. Busy. Busy. Busy. Keeps us out of trouble! Cheers the Team

04.01.2022 Once again Hello and the past weeks update is here! Here is a picture of our beautiful Boobook Owl who came in from Ebenezer after being caught in a fence. Dr Dave has checked him over and we hope he will make a good recovery. Several rainbow and musk Lorikeets have come in this past week after having wing damage from vehicles. They may not be able to fly again and so we might be looking for homes for them. Remember you will need a wildlife permit if you rehome any more than... one. I have taken a top knot pigeon into the Nuriootpa vet last Saturday who was not in a good way and come out with another orphaned kitten about 12weeks old. Not sure if this was a good swap but hopefully we will be able to find a good home for her and our other rescued kitten. Any takers? I need a guarantee that these little girls will be vaccinated ,microchipped and desexed . The two turtles will be released into a local Lyndoch dam (yes this one has still got some water in it) today . Thanks Jackson. Cheers from Rose and the BWR Team!

03.01.2022 Happy World Kangaroo Day. From the Barossa Wildlife Rescue team.

03.01.2022 Afternoon All, BWR has had a very quiet week with several birds coming in damaged mainly by vehicles and cats.(3 Rosellas and a Grass Parrot) A car going past Wolf Blass winery collected a magpie in the grill and ended up being found when the driver returned home. A little damage to her wings and is unable to fly at the moment .Sadly we lost the Boobook owl from Lawley Farm to infection. A baby rabbit was bought home by a resident cat in Cockatoo Valley. A poor Blue Tongue l...izard came in from a Gawler East resident after being run over by a car and sadly pasted away overnight from his injuries. The past week has seen the Magpies in the district mating and making their nests ready for their new arrivals. Heads up the swooping will soon be upon us! Cheers The Team

02.01.2022 Morning to All, A big thankyou to all the people who attended the Barossa Wildlife Rescue garage sale. It was good to see you all keeping your Co-vid distancing! Also a big thankyou to Debra and her partners in crime Phil and Chris and also better mention Darren (Deb,s Hubby) who put in half an effort before the football took over!(Thanks for organizing Guys)... Our wildlife warriors did a marvelous job of looking after the young children with the cuddles and photos taken of the wildlife.(Kelsey, Sami and Vanessa) Our support team (Lynette ,Brenda and Simon) also need a mention Cheers Guys! Donations also Stace, Lyndoch Butcher,Sara and Robbie. The photo taken with the 4 kids is from our animal area at our garage sale. In this photo we have Darcy, Fynn, phoebe and Maggie having cuddles with some of our wildlife. Thank you to Linda Boyle for letting us use the photo. Over a thousand big bucks were raised in support of BWR. A huge effort. The events of the day did not stop the calls for help to our wildlife and during the afternoon a call came in for a very distressed Koala wandering the streets of Evanston Park. Vanessa and I went off with all the gear needed to rescue the big fella however when we reached there, Cassidy and the local neighbours had already contained him. The story was that he seemed tame but we all know different( He is not a well boy). Now being assessed by Gawler Animal Hospital. Thats all for this week. Cheers from the BWR team.

02.01.2022 Kelsey released one of our young ravens out of her Backyard. Her family noticed a group of ravens trying the break him out and him trying to break out of his cage. They then knew that he was ready to go with his family. Adelaide was found in Nuriootpa not far from Kelsey’s house. So it was the perfect place to release him. This is a video of Adelaide being released back with his family.

01.01.2022 A big thank you to Robin and the team at Barossa Water systems for volunteering to help us remove the old rain water tank and preparing to install the new one. We appreciate your efforts!

01.01.2022 Barossa Wildlife Rescue has gone a bit high tech, thanks to some super humans. Fred Holtmann, a Vietnam vet and great mate of Roses from the Air Force turned up one day with a brand new laptop and wireless printer, with all the bells and whistles. And these legends from Beam Internet installed more bells and whistles with their terrific Wifi solution as a very generous donation to BWR. Thank you very much for all of your support, much appreciated!
