23.01.2022 Golf Notes for Week Ending 21st June. Numbers were slightly down this week, maybe the weather played a part in that but we still had 20 players throughout the week put in a card for the Graham Bowman trophy in an Individual Stableford. Seems it was a week for the ladies being our top 3 scorers! Winner with a great score of 40 points was Amanda Koopman. Between Amanda and the next closest score was daylight, but Lyn Simpson claimed Runner up with 33 points, on a countba...ck from Kerrie Smith (33). Other ball winners were, Bill Simpson (32), Mike Artis (32), Gary Allen (31) and Daniel Lott (31). This week we are playing another individual stableford for Will Sedgwick’s trophy. Yesterday 24th June, Golf NSW announced that two golfers in the one cart will be permissible from July 1st. This is another step forward in regaining some normality to our game, but please continue to carry out existing COVID safety precautions where possible. Until next week, happy golfing!

22.01.2022 It was almost perfect conditions for the 26 golfers that teed off on Sunday for Roger Fishers trophy, playing an individual stableford. With a great score of 41 points, David Kelly was the clear winner. He finished 4 points ahead of Amanda Koopman (37) and Peter Simpson (37). Balls went to Bill Simpson (36), Kerrie Smith (35), Graham Bowman (35) and Kevin Kelaher (35). NTPs went to Des Kelaher on the 12th and David York on the 18th.... This weekend sees the final rounds of both the Ladies and Men’s Club Championships. Ladies will play on Saturday at 12 noon, and Sunday at 11am. Not a lot separates the top 3 with Amanda Koopman two shots ahead of Lyn Simpson with Stacey Etheridge a further 3 shots back after 2 rounds. In the Men’s championship, Kevin Kelaher holds a significant buffer to lead by 15 shots going into the compulsory last round however Kevin is the first to say it’s not over till it’s over. The nett event however is a different story with Gary Allen leading Graham Bowman and Ian Cabot by one shot with both Bill Simpson and Campbell Tonkin just 3 shots behind. Good luck to everyone playing championships next weekend. Our regular Wednesday morning gents continue to play and are now having a half way cuppa. Appears to be some culinary battles evolving at the mid round smoko table. Until next week, Happy golfing

20.01.2022 Golf for the week ending 31/05/2020 An Individual Stableford was played. Another great roll up of players last week with 29 players having a round. Looking at the score sheet, it seems most players (apart from the few with the top scores) are struggling with the conditions. With most scores in the 20’s, the course appears to be getting the better of the majority of players! Bragging rights this week go to:... Craig Rutley 38 points Campbell Tonkin 37 points Peter Artis - 35 points Mike Artis 35 points OK Now for some great news! As of this Sunday 7th of June, the Clubhouse will be open for Sunday golf. Sunday @ midday will remain our main golfing day BUT players will still be allowed to go out and play at any time through the week as we have been doing throughout the past couple of months (players can only play once in the comp). PLEASE continue to obey the COVID regulations that are currently in place. We are now allowed to play in groups of four, don’t touch the flag stick, Mark your own card - but continue to place your playing partners scores in the markers section, no sharing of carts, no sharing of clubs and remember your social distancing of 1.5 meters. We will now be following our golf program, with the exception of our Club Championships, which we will push back until we are allowed to use the smoother. Stay tuned for dates when they come to hand. This week we are playing an Individual Stableford for the Betty Artis Memorial Trophy. It will be great to see everyone after our hiatus from ‘Golf Gatherings’. Until next week Happy Golfing! RE: The picture..... who has felt this pain?!?!

18.01.2022 Chook Run Results 30/10 Chook Winner - Dave McMurtrie (21) Ball winners ... Ian Cabot (20) Campbell Tonkin (20) Ron Bridges (19) Amanda Koopman (18) Des Kelaher (18) Simon Koopman (18) Mike Artis (18) Meat Tray Winner - Bill Tonkin

18.01.2022 Ladies Foursomes Championships Sunday, 5th July saw 6 ladies tee off on a sunny, but breezy day for the 2020 Foursomes Championships. Friendships weren’t tested on the first 8 holes played, however, the next 10 were a different story! The excitement started on the 9th, when a couple of ladies tried to see who had the best drive out of bounds, with Libby winning almost reaching cricket nets. It was after the completion of 9 holes when that dreaded word of ‘SORRY’ started to... get used repeatedly. Amanda was experiencing playing shots from places she may never have been before. There were interesting shots through trees, around trees and even out of the mud (one golfer almost got bogged). The two golf buggies on the course did seem to have a ball magnet on them, one player had to hold her breath as her shot just cleared the roof, making Lyn S and Gail duck for cover. Kerrie showed us her talent with a trick shot going under a buggy and out the other side cleanly. The best save of the day was when Gail misjudged her direction by quite a bit and her ball was saved from a cold swim by another buggy waiting on the edge of the dam. One other golfer also showed everyone how to hit it straight.. out of bounds on the full on the 16th! With 2 holes to go, Lib and Lyn were leading by 1 shot, however the 2nd last hole changed things with nerves taking over. This year’s Championships were so close and after 16 holes played, there was only one shot separating the 3 teams. After 18 holes, the scores were 99, 99 and 101. So down the first the ladies went again for a sudden death play off between Gail and Lyn S and Amanda and Kerrie. 2 players had a chance to sink an 8-10 inch putt to claim the Championship on the first play off hole, but nerves got the better of them both (or did it hit a rock) and it was onto the 2nd playoff hole. Gail had a chance to seal the win with a 3 meter putt, and made no mistakes with this one. Congratulations to Gail and Lyn Simpson winning the Gross Championships with Amanda and Kerrie taking out the Nett. The Nett event was sponsored by Barraba IGA, and we would like to thank them for their kind contribution. Kerrie also claimed the ladies NTP on the 3rd. Well done ladies.

17.01.2022 27 players again for the week ending 17th of May, where golfers played an individual stableford. It’s great to see some familiar names back into the swing of things after being MIA for a few years! Course conditions are still proving tough, with not a lot of outstanding scores being carded. The best of the scores were as follows:... Keiran Darlington - 35 Peter Artis - 34 Ian Cabot - 32 Will Sedgwick - 32 Robert Sweeney - 32 Daniel Anderson - 32 Until next week - happy golfing!

16.01.2022 Last Sunday was a cold and windy day. It was Bevan Benson and David McMurtrie who claimed the C & R Sweeney and Shayne Middlemiss trophies in our 4BBB stableford played last week. Bevan and David had a great score of 45 to edge out Bill Simpson and John Hartley with 42 and Peter Simpson and Peter Artis 41. Scores were generally pretty good considering the amount of clothing golfers had on to keep warm, thankfully no sleet or snow fell but it seemed it wasn't far away. Nob...ody claimed a NTP. This week we play an individual stableford for Rodger Fishers trophy.

15.01.2022 Save the Date Presentation Night - Saturday 5th Dec @ Commercial HotelSave the Date Presentation Night - Saturday 5th Dec @ Commercial Hotel

15.01.2022 Hello Golfers! For the week ending 14.06.2020, we competed in an individual versus par for the Gary Allen trophy. It was pleasing to once again see such great numbers, with 31 people coming out to the course and having a round. Winner of the day and picking himself up a voucher at Polkadot, was relatively new golfer Robert Kilmore. Rob come in with a score of +5 and I’m sure with a score like that, it won’t take long for his handicap to come down! Runner Up with a goo...d score of +2 was Daniel Anderson. Ball winners were as follows: Craig Ruttley: +1 Trent Hartwig: Square Daniel Lott: -1 Peter Artis: -1 John Hartley: -2 Helen Kelly: 2 Peter Simpson: -2 NTPs 3rd - Roger Fisher 18th Rob Kilmore This week we are playing an individual stableford for Graham Bowman’s trophy. Hope to see you all out at the course In general news, we are trying to protect the grass around our tees and greens, so you may start to notice some cart directional signage. We would appreciate all our cart drivers respecting this as we work towards keeping our course in great shape. Until next week Happy golfing!

15.01.2022 Mixed Foursomes Championships Decided! 8 Mixed Foursomes Teams and a few singles players set off in rainy conditions on Sunday. After a heavy downpour an hour in, half the Championships starters and all the singles players sought the comforts of the 19th! As has been the trend lately, most players seemed to struggle around the greens with the spongey approaches. ... Club stalwart David York and daughter Amanda Koopman toughed it out to win the Championship with an 86, 5 shots clear of Stacey Etheridge and Fermin Allan who had 91. Stacey and Fermin claimed the Lions Club trophy for the nett Championship with 76.5. As with most Foursomes rounds, there was a lot of ‘sorry partner’ being muttered around the course. One pair had trouble on the 7th. One member of the team hit their drive OOB. Luckily with the Canadian format, both partners are allowed a drive and the other member of the team hit a beautiful straight drive straight down the middle...... only for their partner to put the next shot back over the fence again! Congratulations to both winners of the Championships. This weekend we are scheduled to play the next round of the Club Championships. The Ladies are playing both Saturday and Sunday, and the men only on Sunday. Looking at the forecast, I’d recommend you bring your wet weather gear! Until next week, Happy Golfing!

13.01.2022 Ladies Championships Update On the weekend just been, the ladies played the 1st and 2nd rounds of their Club Championships. There were only 5 contenders on day 1, which sees these ladies able to drop one of their first 3 scores (if they play in them all). Stacey Etheridge managed the best gross score, coming in with 93 and was the overnight leader, 3 shots clear of Amanda Koopman. Stacey also picked up Amanda’s trophy with a 71 nett. Libby Thompson was Runner up with nett ...78 and Lyn Groth got the NTP on the 12th. Sunday saw another 2 ladies in on the action, however, they won’t have the luxury of being able to drop a round! Amanda picked up her game and improved her 1st round score by 7 shots to come in with an 89 off the stick. This was good enough to claim Lib Thompson’s trophy with a 76 nett, on a countback from Lyn Simpson. Amanda also picked up the NTP on the 3rd. There were stories of what could have beens with lost balls, out of bounds etc etc, and also dealing with a cranky magpie on the 5th, 7th, 13th and 17th! As mentioned, some players will be able to discard one of their first 3 rounds if they play all four. This means that standings are tight half way through, with only 4 shots separating the top 3: Amanda 89 Lyn S 91 Stacey 93 The ladies will complete their final two rounds on the 5th and 6th September. Men’s Championships Update It was a chilly afternoon for the 3rd round of the Men’s Club Championships last Sunday, but there was still a good roll-up to compete for Sam Faint’s trophy. Campbell Tonkin claimed the trophy with a 72 nett from Gary Allen and Peter Simpson (73) and Roger Fisher (74). Roger also claimed the NTP on the 3rd. Kevin Kelaher was able to rest this round as he leads the championship by 15 shots going into the 4th and final compulsory round. Unless COVID locks him into Newcastle he looks a certainty. The nett Championship is a different story with Gary Allen leap-frogging Graham Bowman and Ian Cabot to lead by one with Bill Simpson a further 3 behind and Campbell Tonkin and David York another 3 shots back. The final round of the Men’s Championships will be played on 6th September. This Sunday we lighten up a bit and play a 4BBB stableford for the C & R Sweeney and Shayne Middlemiss trophies. Until next week, happy golfing

12.01.2022 A great roll up of 60 players supported the annual charity golf day, in aid of Breast Cancer research. It was great to see splashes of pink around the course while players took part in a 9 hole, 4 person ambrose. Winners of the day were Kim and Rob Sweeney, Lennox McDermont and Kevin Kelaher with a great score of nett 26. Runners up went to Lyn Groth, Rhonda Clayton, Natalie Anderson, Pam Urquhart and Doctor Deepal! ... 3rd place was the team of Dusty Hiscock, Fermin Allan, Phil Hiscock and Dave Capes, just ahead of Campbell Tonkin, Charlie Hart, Finn Hart and Lincoln Brown. The day ended with a presentation, auction and BBQ. A big thanks to our trophy and auction donors and to our auctioneer Charlie Hart. This great community of ours never fails to get behind events like this, and Sunday was certainly no exception. This week, there is a 4BBB for the John Hartley and Tim Bucknell trophy. The 9 and 5 hole twilight chicken runs will start on Friday 9th October, so get your team of 4 organised. If you don’t have a team, just turn up and we can organise a team for you. For those of you who aren’t golfers and would like to try it out, our 5 hole event is the perfect opportunity. The club has spare golf sticks and golf balls that we can lend you. Until next time, happy golfing!

11.01.2022 Perfect weather greeted players for the re-run of the second round of the men’s Club Championships on Sunday. Ian Cabot was declared the winner of Campbell Tonkin’s trophy in a three-way countback with Gary Allen and Graham Bowman, all with a 68 nett. Bill Simpson was next best with a 72, followed by Fermin Allan and Dave Capes with 73. Bill also claimed a NTP on the 12th.... Kevin Kelaher continues his dominance of outright club championship having a good round of 76 off the stick. The third round of the men’s championships is scheduled for Sunday 16th of August while the Ladies will play their 1st and 2nd rounds on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th August. This Sunday (9th) we play our delayed Mixed Foursomes Championships. For those of you that can't find a partner, there will be an individual stableford for Bill Simpson’s Trophy. Congratulations to Amanda Koopman and Libby Thompson who travelled to Quirindi on Sunday to play in the Ladies Open Day. There were a few shots left on the course, but they came away with 4th place in the gross competition. Until next week, Happy Golfing PS - Does anyone need a hat like this

10.01.2022 We had a good turn out for the delayed first round of the Men’s Club Championships last Sunday. The weather was surprisingly good given the forecast. The winner of the day, claiming Ian and Brenda McColl's trophy, was David McMurtrie with a nett 71 from Bill Simpson and David York 73, Will Sedgwick and Ian Cabot 74 and Sam Faint and Garry Allen with 75. These fellas make up the leader board for the Nett Championship. ... Kevin Kelaher leads the gross with 78 from Will Sedgwick 83 and Peter Summerell 85. Dave Kelly claimed the Rural Traders NTP on the 3rd, Garry Allen the 12th and Kevin Kelaher on the 16th. Next week we play a 4BBB multiplier for Dave Kelly's and Bill McKid's trophy. If players are able to organise themselves and markers to play before Sunday that is fine. We also held our delayed AGM. Treasurer Amanda Koopman and President Will Sedgwick gave their respective reports, indicating the club is in a sound financial position after a successful 2019. The board was pretty much returned unchanged with exception of Lyn Simpson coming in for Dave Kelly who didn't seek re-election. We thank Dave immensely for his contribution to the board and hope we still see him at the odd working bee. LADIES PLEASE NOTE - The dates for your championships have been set. These will be held: 1st and 2nd round - 15th and 16th August 3rd and 4th round - 5th and 6th September Until next week, happy golfing.

09.01.2022 Friday the 16th saw the twilight comp commence, seems everyone was keen to get back into the swing of it with 46 players! For the second week running Daniel Etheridge (Yea-Nah) was declared the winner, with a great score of 24 points. Next in line were Kerrie Smith (AKA) 23 points, with 23 points, Tim Coombes (Hackers) 22 points, Charlie Hart (Yellow Stone Fever) 21 points, Bill Simpson (Lions) 20 points and Ian Cabot (Golf Creek) 20 points. After completion of the first ro...und, the leaderboard looks as follows (2 best scores each week are counted): 41: Hackers, AKA 40: Yea-Nah, Yellow Stone Fever 36: Lions 35: Golf Creek 34: Unreliables 33: Next in Line 32: Butchers 31: Veterans 30: New and Old 26: Worm Burners, Scanos Mob The winner of the meat tray on week 1 was Campbell Tonkin. Heads up folks - you don’t have to be in a team or a regular golfer to play in the twilight competition. Everyone is welcome to play and we also have a 5 hole event for those not up for 9. Until next week, happy golfing

07.01.2022 Golf Results Last week we played a 4Ball Multiplier for Dave Kelly and Bill McKid's trophies. This format multiplies each players stableford points, so it can test friendships when one player might get a 3 or 4 pointer leaving the pressure on their partner not to get a zero! ... Winners of the day were Fermin Allan and Peter Simpson who combined well to come in with 74 points. Runners Up went to Des Kelaher and David York with 73. Ball winners were Dave Capes and Daniel Anderson who had 68, and Shayne Middlemiss and Ian Cabot came in with 67. Des Kelaher was NTP on the 3rd. Next week (26th) the men will play the second round of their Club Championships for Campbell Tonkin's trophy, and any ladies wanting a game will play a stroke (not a championship round). Until Next week, happy golfing

06.01.2022 Ladies Golf Notes The weekend just been, saw the last two rounds of the Ladies Championships completed. Two beautiful spring days even had some ladies turning up in their shorts to work on an early spring tan! The ladies played their 4 rounds over 2 weekends which was enjoyed by all. After the 1st weekend of 2 rounds, Amanda Koopman had her nose just out in front by 2 shots only, from Lyn Simpson - noting that some ladies missed the first round and didn’t have the luxury o...f dropping one of their first three! Saturday’s round was played in conjunction with Gail Simpson’s trophy, and with a great score of 81 off the stick, Amanda Koopman claimed that one easily (68 nett). Runner Up was Kerrie Smith nett 70 and NTP on the 16th was Lyn Groth. There was no pressure on Amanda going into the final round, 16 shots clear. Sunday’s round was sponsored by Stacey Etheridge and after a count-back (after much discussion and a phone call to a subject matter expert), Kerrie Smith claimed this trophy from Amanda Koopman - both with nett 74. Lyn Simpson picked up the NTP on the 18th. There was a lot of entertainment over the weekend with carts full speed ahead chasing crows away, trees saving out of bounds and trick shots between players legs. The buggy NRMA even had to be called with one cart deciding it had had enough after only 7 holes (thanks Dave McMurtrie and Roger Fisher). And now for the Championship winners! Amanda Koopman claimed the Ladies Club Champion title, with a score of 256, 22 shots clear of her nearest rival. Stacey Etheridge took out the B grade with 283 (13 shots clear of the next B grader) and our sole C Grader Kerrie Smith, had 332. Congratulations to our 3 Champions!! Stay tuned for the men’s championships winners!

05.01.2022 Men’s Foursome Championships Last Sunday saw a return to our regular golf with the holding of the 2020 men’s Foursomes Championships. This annual event is sponsored by Peter York and Allan Yates. The winners with a great score of 74 off the stick were the double act of Kevin Kelaher and Rob Sweeney. Generally providing some banter between themselves their attention turned to golf on Sunday to combine very well and be clear winners at days end. Congratulations guys on a great ...round. Runners up in the gross were David York and Des Kelaher from Shane Middlemiss and Ian Cabot. In conjunction we also played for the Kevin Kelaher and Rob Sweeney Foursomes Nett trophy. In a very close finish, our elder statesmen David York and Des Kelaher turned back the clock to card a very good nett 67 to edge out the trophy donors Kevin and Robert by .5 of a shot. Balls went to Sam Faint and Paul Grigg along with Peter Simpson and Rob Kilmore. The NTPs were Des Kelaher on the 3rd with Kevin Kelaher picking up the 6th, 16th and 18th. Next Sunday 12th we have the first round of our Club Championship for the men (Ladies will be held 15/16 August and 5th and 6th September) so good luck to everyone for that. A reminder that we will also have our AGM straight after golf this Sunday.

03.01.2022 Mens Championships A good consistent closing round from Kevin Kelaher saw him crowned the 2020 Barraba Men’s Club Champion. Kevin continued his dominance to shoot a closing round 74, 3 over par, to easily win the title, from Ian Cabot who was runner up. Congratulations fellas. There was a great deal of interest in the Men’s overall nett event, with just 4 shots separating 5 players leading into the final round. Ian Cabot returned to form to emerge from the pack to shoot a ...closing 84, nett 69, to win by 2 shots from Graham Bowman. Sundays closing Championships event was also the Ian Cabot trophy, however with current club policy saying players can’t win their own trophy Ian had to pass the spoils to Des Kelaher who Ian had beaten on a count back, both returning 38 points. Balls went to Graham Bowman, Dave McMurtrie, Peter Simpson and Kevin Kelaher. This Sunday we will play a 4BBB so organise a partner or no doubt there will be people looking for partners on the day. Don’t forget our annual Breast Cancer Ambrose golf day on Sunday 27th September. Anyone can play so organise your team of 4, or if you haven’t got a team, come on out and we will find you a team. Don’t forget to wear something pink and be prepared for lots of laughs. Until next time, happy golfing!

03.01.2022 Player numbers are still on the rise, and it was great to see 30 players (amongst them a few new faces) competing in the Betty Artis Memorial An Individual Stableford. Winner of the day with a great score of 41 points was David Kelly. Runner up with 39 points went to David McMurtrie. It proved to be a great day for the Kelly’s, with Helen coming in 3rd on 38 points. Next best score of 36 was Mike Artis. This week we will play an Individual Vs Par.... Rumour has it, that there was a sighting of a FISH on the course mid-week! Best to keep the fishing to the waterholes rather than the golf course ;) Until next week, Happy Golfing

03.01.2022 There were twenty eight players contesting a 4BBB aggregate on Sunday for Dave McMurtrie and Mick Djuric’s trophies. Will Sedgwick and Campbell Tonkin had a combined score of 74 stableford points win the day. Runners up went to Dave Kelly and Bill Simpson (70). Ball winners were Fermin Allan and Craig Rutley (70), Dave McMurtrie and Graham Bowman (67) and Peter Simpson and Ian Cabot (67). Next week we will play an individual stableford for the Vera Doyle memorial trophy.... Don’t forget the annual Breast Cancer Ambrose golf day is on Sunday 27th September. Anyone can play, so organise your team of 4 and head out to the club. If you don’t have a team, simply come out and we can put you in a team. Wear something pink and be prepared for lots of laughs.

01.01.2022 Will Sedgwick’s trophy was up for grabs this week in an Individual Stableford. 35 points was the top score (x2), which saw Mike Artis claim the win on a countback from brother Peter. Ball winners were: Craig Ruttley , Robert Sweeney, Kevin Kelaher, David David York and Will Sedgwick.... Thanks to Barraba Rural Traders for supplying the NTPS. NTP 3rd was Dave Capes NTP 6th was Daniel Anderson. Golf is slowly resuming to some normality as of 1st July. This means we can now have two in a cart. It also means we can remove the flag when putting if desired and use the smoothers. Please note, we still need to be vigilant with the COVID situation and it is recommended that a towel or the gloved hand is used when carrying out these activities. At this stage we are still proposing golf can continue to be played throughout any day of the week WITH THE EXCEPTION of Championships. This Sunday (5th) will see the first of our Championships being played The Men’s and Ladies Foursomes Championships. For the newbies, you will need to find a partner for this one, and it is a test of friendship where you play hit for hit. So if your partner hits you under a tree. You need to play the next shot to hit it out! Next Sunday (12th) will be the first round of our Singles Club Championships. With the exception of August 9th We will be following the program book. On August 9th we will be playing our mixed Foursomes Championships. Please note Preferred Lies will now only be on the fairway you are playing. Until next week - happy golfing.

01.01.2022 Another week and the amount of weekly golfers is still growing. For the week ending 10th May, we had 27 players slogging it out in a stroke. The Saturday players had to encounter a few storms (and your scribe is using this excuse for their terrible score carded)! Best scores for the week were as follows:... Peter Artis - 74 nett Will Sedgwick - 74 nett Mike Artis - 72 nett. Now - in other news, we will now be allowed to play in groups of 4. So all other restrictions we are adhering to will stay in place (including one to a cart), but we can go around in a larger group. Continued thanks to everyone for doing the right thing and ensuring we can keep playing this great game! This weeks event is an individual stableford. So head on out to the club any day this week for a hit and a bit of fresh air and exercise. Stay well - and happy golfing!
