24.01.2022 Can you help, please? Lyn Eames would like to find the burial site on Linton Station of her great grandmother, Janet Wright nee Stevenson. Janet died in 1892. Margaret Currell is aware of some grave sites on Linton, but not this one. Peter Heywood worked at Linton and knows it well, but does not know of this grave site. I realise it is a long shot when it was so long ago,but someone may have heard from someone else about where this lady's final resting place may be. If so, please Lyn or the Barraba Museum know.

21.01.2022 An article about the historic home at 63 Fitzroy Street, Barraba was published in the Barraba section of the Manilla Express newspaper on 21 July, 2020. The article is reproduced here with permission as well as some of the accompanying images.

19.01.2022 I am looking for information on the Barton Family who lived at Ironbark and Barraba from 1866 to 1987. Edward died in 1913 and is buried in Barraba Cemetery alo...ng with his Mother, Ellen and Son, Spencer Barton. His first wife, Mary(Roberts) was born in Bingara near Inverell but died in Walgett in 1900. Edward married Susan Potter in 1905 in Barraba. In 1917, after Edward's death Susan married his brother James Barton. As the family appear to have lived in the area for over a century I wondered if any descendants still remain or if there are any photos of them. See more

18.01.2022 Bert Le-Merton has a connection with Barraba through marrying Joan Dickson. Joan's brother John Dickson and Bert served together in WW2 both being Rats of Tobruk and also serving in New Guinea. They were best mates and on returning Bert married Joan. Bert is walking a challenge to help returned veterans in their time of need.

17.01.2022 Can anybody help ?

17.01.2022 I am trying again to post a photo of an unidentified person, and hopefully this one might work! If anyone can help us work out who this is, please let us know. She must have been a friend or relative of my great grandmother Emily Williams (nee Crowley), and the photo was probably taken in the late 1800s. - Julie Williams

16.01.2022 Thankyou Sandra Allen for sharing these pics

08.01.2022 STOP PRESS: The venue for tomorrow's markets has been moved due to the weather outlook for possible heavy rain. They will be in the vacant shop next to IGA in Queen Street. That's on the other side of the street and a couple of blocks further North. Apologies for any disappointment, but the stalls and entertainment will still be there for your enjoyment!

07.01.2022 This week’s Manilla Express is out now. On the Barraba front page there’s a story about Merlene Godfrey as well as news about Matt Thompson, Will Rixon and the ...Barraba Bowlo. Buy the paper at Barraba Pharmacy & Newsagency, the IGA or Inland Petroleum. If you live out of town you can buy the online version for $1.50 from https://www.manillaexpress.net.au/buy-digital-copy-of-manil

06.01.2022 Does anyone know where these two paintings might be? They are of Christian Brodbeck (1828 - 1901) and his wife Louisa Brodbeck nee Steichele (1832 - 1910). These were the first Brodbecks to come to Australia, from the Kingdom of Wurttemberg, now part of Southern Germany. Martyn Killion (a great great grandson of the couple), would love to know where they are. He hopes they have not been accidentally thrown out. He last saw them in the early 1990s at the home of Elsie Jurd. Martyn is not wanting to have these - he just would like to know they are safe. All help appreciated!

05.01.2022 It’s almost market time!! Don’t forget to come along to the museum on Saturday 13th between 8.30am and noon!

04.01.2022 Does anyone remember the name of Phyllis Capel's hair salon?

02.01.2022 Jennifer Cooper posted this wonderful photo of her great great grandmother Catherine Farrrell Behan with her young daughter Catherine. Taken circa 1868. Catherine Behan was the second wife of Denis Behan, an Irish convict, who ran a small roadside inn at Cobbadah Creek. She died aged 29 years from tuberculosis in 1869 and is buried in Barraba. Two of her five children Catherine and Michael - lived to adulthood.

01.01.2022 This photo is not a mystery, but I'm sharing it for your interest and enjoyment. I realise many people will have seen it already, but I doubt if they would mind seeing it again. The information from a reliable source is that this is Mr George Simpson leading a horse drawn team across the Manilla River in Barraba near Cherry Street Police Station carting wool from Ironbark Station in 1915. Mr Harry Crowley on horseback at the rear.

01.01.2022 Please note that the museum is not closed, but it is only open by appointment. You are very welcome to contact us and someone would be happy to open the museum for you.
