25.01.2022 Spotted this beautiful Hyacinth Orchid in Forrest today.

25.01.2022 Gentle Annies Berry Farm and Cafe is a *great* place to visit at this time of year. https://www.facebook.com/Gentle-Annie-Berry-Gardens-614176645296679/

23.01.2022 So glad the cabins feel like a "home away from home" for our customers!

23.01.2022 A discerning young guest! At least the next gen has some standards!

21.01.2022 Always try to book n buy directly! Even if its not cheaper (though it probably will be!), the money you pay will go directly to the people providing the service. The attached article is about the impact multinational tech-driven companies are having on small independent businesses like us. Think before you swipe - whos paying what for the cost of your convenience? ... https://arena.org.au/fck-the-gig-economy-by-h-c-gildfind/

21.01.2022 Heres a poignant tombstone from Cape Otway Cemetery, on the Great Ocean Walk, near Cape Otway Lighthouse. Many of the lighthouse workers, and their children, are buried here.

20.01.2022 Happy campers... or is it cabiners!?

19.01.2022 We think well need to give the local Koala a tip - for putting on a nice show for customers. As for the glow worms - obviously theyll get a glowing review!!

18.01.2022 Beaut little message left by a very artistic customer!

17.01.2022 The blueberry patch seems to be enjoying the humid, drizzly weather!

17.01.2022 The koalas have been growling around, keeping our guests on their toes!

17.01.2022 Colac Otway Shire will have to give the platypi a pay-rise, lazy buggers! As usual, the glow worms are doing all the work, entertaining visitors!

14.01.2022 Some poor soul has had a rotten day today, his truck losing its load - this earth mover - by tipping on the tight blind bend below our driveway. Weve often wondered how long it would be till something tipped here, as the roads way too sloped and not reinforced where its edge drops into the bush. (*No one was hurt.*)

13.01.2022 And heres another song by Ed Robins, also inspired by his familys history in the Otways. "In 1918 my grandfather, a saw-miller in the Otway Ranges, was killed when a load of logs broke free and crushed him as he was thrown from his horse. The local newspaper records that the horse escaped uninjured! His death left my father and aunt, both just toddlers, to be raised by my grandmother. The Otway mill is also where grandfather milled the beautiful Blackwood timber that has gone into my Otway Mill acoustic guitar, so I have a special connection with the mill." https://soundcloud.com/edrobins47/otway-mill

12.01.2022 Beaut view from the Great Ocean Walk, near Cape Otway Lighthouse!

11.01.2022 Another pic from Gentle Annies beaut berry farm: a special place to pick berries, have lunch, and relax in the sun whilst meeting the demands of the two resident Collie dogs (pats for the old gal; stick-throws for the young fella ). http://www.gentleannie.net.au/

11.01.2022 Does anyone else think of David Bowie whenever they see a Kookaburra?!

10.01.2022 Spring is still springing!!! Flower power in Apollo Bay and Forrest gardens.

10.01.2022 Customers enjoying the cabins - despite the rotten weather! (Our other customers had the very Otways-ish adventure of getting bogged, too - we helped get them out, after *laughing* at them of course! )

10.01.2022 More happy campers!

06.01.2022 From the guest book! These guys competed in the Otway Odyssey, with 1 scoring a podium place for his category! Yay!

06.01.2022 Awww - happy Valentines Weekend. When one earthmover loses it, and tips over the edge, its mate comes along to winch it back to safety. Look at the two of them here, the morning after!!! So cute! (Kudos to the three guys who sorted this out. *Amazing* to watch them and these surreal dinosaur-machines at work!)

06.01.2022 Parrots eye view... of parrots!

05.01.2022 Beautiful photo of Lake Corangamite, near Colac, Australias largest permanent saline lake! The salt lakes and volcanic plains around Colac are well worth visiting! More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Corangamite

05.01.2022 A review from a happy customer, from just before lock-down, who came after their honeymoon had to be cancelled.

05.01.2022 Hi All! Were open for holiday makers again - but only for regional residents at the moment. Were hoping to have poor Melbournites up here soon too!!! ... If youd like to book please contact us directly: [email protected] Take care!!!

05.01.2022 Whilst prepping cabins for the weekend, we thought it prudent to remove the spare toilet rolls we usually keep in the bathrooms - in case our weekenders are infected with #coronahysteria!

04.01.2022 Its not easy being a Rosella in a world full of bolshy King Parrots.

04.01.2022 Heres a song by Ed Robins, who recently visited the cabins whilst spending the weekend tracing his familys history in the Otways. What a great name for a song, "Barramunga Brawl"! Ed: "On April 11, 1901, my great-grandfather, a saw-mill owner at Barramunga in the Otway Ranges, was assaulted by an employee, a giant of a man named Joseph Laithwaite. The daily paper records a "brutal assault", which earned Joe 3 months in the slammer. I have a photo of great-grandfather. He ...is a wiry little man with a big, bushy beard. He would have been no match for big Joe!" Here is the text from the article Ed based this song on: "The Argus, Saturday June 15, 1901 A BRUTAL ASSAULT, COLAC, Friday. A powerfully-built labourer, named Joseph Laithwaite, was to-day sentenced to three months imprisonment for assaulting Edwin Robins, a sawmill proprietor, at Barramunga, on April 11, 1901. The defendant was employed by the plaintiff through a Melbourne registry office, and, when dissatisfaction was expressed at the manner in which he was performing his work, Laithwaite savagely attacked the plaintiff, giving him a pair of black eyes, pulling out his whiskers in handfuls, and knocking him down and kicking him, in addition to making use of abominable language. The police magistrate remarked that it was the most brutal, cowardly, and unprovoked assault that had come under his notice." https://soundcloud.com/edrobins47/barramunga-brawl

04.01.2022 Some more happy campers! We seem to attract customers who are not only nice people, but--much more importantly--have excellent handwriting!

02.01.2022 Autumn seems to be here already - weird! But were happy its not fiery up here.

02.01.2022 Some belated Xmas cheer - from some tomato plants (and a smarty pants gardener) in Apollo Bay! What a wit!
