20.01.2022 An important update for all NT Recreational Fishers. Read the full message from AFANT's CEO here: http://createsend.com/t/d-716B7F0C2BFCDB432540EF23F30FEDED ...- Maintain spatial distancing of 1.5 metres from other people - Fish alone, with family (you live with), or with household members only - Do not gather to go fishing - Do not congregate at landbased fishing locations if distancing cannot be maintained, instead look for safe alternatives - Do not go fishing if you are in quarantine - If you are unwell, you must self-isolate, do not go fishing if self-isolating - Check for regular updates at https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/ and https://www.health.gov.au/ Full message: Hello , I hope you and your family are well in these unprecedented and difficult times. The threat and response to COVID-19 has resulted in a lot of changes for our community, as we reprioritise our lives and activities. All individuals have now been called upon to do what we can to limit the spread of the virus and to help flatten the curve of infection. AFANT has participated in a number of teleconference updates with the Minister for Primary Industries and Resources, and the Department over the past few days, as we seek to understand the new measures as best we can. I am sure that most of you will be aware of social distancing rules, the new health regulations recently announced, and the need to stay up to date with all of the latest measures. It is with this in mind that I write to you today. We all love recreational fishing. And clearly, heading out for a fish is a welcoming chance to relax and to reap the wellbeing benefits of some time away from the daily pressures during this challenging period. It is however important that all fishers fully support the Commonwealth and Territory rules around social distancing, at all times. For social distancing outdoors, the rules state that you must maintain 1.5m of distance between yourself and another person during non-essential activities (1 person per 4 square metres). At this time fishing is a non-essential activity. The 1.5m rule applies to boat and land-based fishing. It does not apply to members of your family or household. While I have agonised about how explicit to be about this, I think now is the time for clear communication, and not expecting people to have to read between the lines. So, to be clear, in order to do our part in preventing the spread of Coronavirus and to support the goal of saving lives, recreational fishers need to: Maintain spatial distancing of 1.5 metres from other people Fish alone, with family, or with household members only Do not gather to go fishing Do not congregate at land-based fishing locations if distancing cannot be maintained, instead look for safe alternatives Do not go fishing if you are in quarantine If you are unwell, you must self-isolate, do not go fishing if self- isolating Check for regular updates at https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/ and https://www.health.gov.au/ As recently as today, the advice from Government has been clear; this virus is expected to affect each of us, or someone we care about, and acting responsibility at this critical time is essential for everyone. Going fishing is great for mental health and well-being, and it can help put fresh healthy protein on the table. However, we are all aware of what happened on Bondi Beach over the weekend, and if people do the wrong thing, the Federal and Territory Governments have made it clear that they will act decisively to prevent risky behaviour. We must also be aware that even if we all do the right thing, it is possible that the health advice may change rapidly, and it will be everyone’s responsibility to follow the government’s directions. We will do our best to keep you informed Given that fishing with our mates will be on pause for a while, I encourage you to reach out and check in with each other. Fishing chat, banter, social and club catch ups can continue through social media and virtual meeting technology. We are all going through a lot of changes at present as we put the health of our community, especially those most vulnerable, first. I know that our proud, vibrant and inclusive recreational fishing community will pull together and get through this. I send my best regards to each of you and your families. Stay well. Sincerely, David Ciaravolo Chief Executive Officer, AFANT

09.01.2022 Some wise words from a well known fond member of the Nats family and someone well and truly in the front line of what's coming !
09.01.2022 Lots of great Nats moments popping up in Facebook memories the last few weeks. This morning would've been our pack up morning for this years event. No doubt it would've been laden with lots of dusty heads, panadols & goodbyes for another year. Emails will go out to all current teams next week to confirm their entry's. There will also be a call for expressions of interest for a limited few team spots available. Also stay tuned for an exciting announcement on Tuesday with tw...o big changes on the Barra Nats as we know it. Bring on 28th April 2021 !
09.01.2022 They say a weeks a long time in politics- well 24 hrs around corona virus is the same week on steroids. This time last week we were implementing the devastating decision to postpone the Barra Nats. With all that has developed these past few day's - so glad we were in a position to make the call when we did. Don't be complacent people - keep an eye on each other and look after your family and friends in these crazy times.... Most of all take care of yourselves, cause we want you back for our 25th in 2021 when we promise to bring you an absolute ball tearer of a Nats like never before!
09.01.2022 Quick trip down to the Daly River yesterday for catchup with Banyan Farm crew and a bit of scoping & measuring prepping for some exciting changes to this years tournament. Great to see the river level at around 10 mtrs. Fingers crossed for some more rain to keep it up there for a bit.
07.01.2022 Due to issues from COVID-19 it is with great sadness we announce the postponement of this years beloved Barra Nationals. The safety of competitors, the ongoing viability of the tournament and the likelihood of disruption means we have to put off the event until further notice. The risk to competitors and the tournament is just too great. The Barra Nationals will now likely be slotted in for a return in 2021. This decision was not taken lightly and made at this time to try... to give everyone as much time as possible to adjust and also provide teams a full refund on entry fees paid. Our thoughts are with those teams who had made significant arrangements to be able to attend this years’ tournament and special thoughts also go out for our enduring hosts Wally and Kerri at the Banyan Farm. These wonderful people have been hit hard by this development and any help and support we’re able to rally for them in the coming months would be fantastic. Almost every team and many of the sponsors have been contacted today and I would like to thank them wholeheartedly all for their overwhelming support for our difficult decision. Moving forward - all current teams will be eligible for entry into next years’ Barra Nationals. From the discussions so far there is already a lot of enthusiasm for 2021 and after a year off competitors will likely be jumping out of their skin. As usual team members with queries please consult with your skipper first. If any teams then have queries please send them through to our email [email protected] Keep an eye on our web and facebook pages for updates and lets make 2021 a cracker !! COVID-19 you mongrel !
06.01.2022 Hello Members, the PGFC was once again broken into on Tuesday night. Offenders gained entry by cutting security mesh, once entry was gained the alarm activated... triggering notification to committee members who called the police. The offenders smashed the fridge door taking a number of pre mix cans. While additional security measure implemented thanks to the NT Government Biz Secure grant has contributed to better security more money still needs to be invested. This puts considerable strain on a not for profit club’s financials and volunteer committee members, who attended the premises overnight and today. The club extends its thanks to the NT Police members who repeatedly attend these events and treat every incident with the utmost seriousness. The club encourages members to come down for dinner Friday nights, attend club function or share a drink and support your club. We are a strong family focused club and we look forward to continuing our commitment to our members and the wider community. Kind regards, PGFC Committee
05.01.2022 This one might be sneaking under the radar with all the craziness of Covid 19 taking the limelight. Still a way to go yet but Saturday week might start to get interesting!

02.01.2022 This might be helpful to anyone who had flights booked to come up for the Nats.
01.01.2022 With all the Facebook memories popping up recent days its really hard not to think of what we would be doing right now down at the Banyan Farm with kick off time upon us for the 2020 Barra Nationals. As we all know Covid-19 had other ideas for us. So its not to be. However its time to start putting gloom of 2020 behind us. Its with a lot of excitement and anticipation we announce the dates for next years 2021 Barra Nationals. Wednesday 28th April - Wednesday 5th May. Havi...ng to wait the agonising extra year will no doubt have all competitors on "the edge". Rest assured to help compensate we have some "special tweaks" like never before in the making for next years event. Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we kick off with some exciting announcements. In place of the dawn service we would've been commemorating with tomorrow. Let us all get out there for our national day of remembrance - whether it be driveway, balcony, live streaming - whatever it is. Lets commemorate the enormous contribution, sacrifice and suffering so many have selflessly made so we can enjoy the wonderful Australian way of life that we have today. Lest we forget
