13.01.2022 Yes its that time again.....Sir Doug Nicholls Round. One of our favourite rounds of the season... Sir Doug was born on the Cummeragunja Mission in 1906. He was the youngest of 5 children born to Herbert Nicholls and Florence Atkinson. Sir Doug played footy for Tongala in the Goulburn Valley competition before trying out for North Melbourne and Carlton. In 1932 he joined Fitzroy Football Club and in 1935 was the first Aboriginal player selected to play for the Victorian I...nterstate team. He played a total of 6 seasons at Fitzroy Sir Doug was a talented athlete including sprinter and boxer In 1976 he was appointed Governor of South Australia and in 1972 was Knighted , the first Aboriginal person to be Knighted. A man of many talents and passion for his people. https://images.app.goo.gl/oHQm2bRPJMQsabN78 https://images.app.goo.gl/oHQm2bRPJMQsabN78 Enjoy Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
