25.01.2022 Here is Ken Medway's research on Peter McBride. More of Ken's great work.

25.01.2022 I got to met up with friends I have known for over 10 years. Stacey is Koda's Mum and Koda is 15. She is setting herself up for the educational and other requirements for enter into the NSW Police Force. I hope she gets her wish. Koda, Stacey and the rest of the family went to the Silverton Gaol and Stacey took a photo of an exhibit. In the right upper corner you will see something familiar. There are also other photos that have perked my interest in all things Far West P...olicing. I'm going back to see what I can reveal. Thanks Stacey and your little touring party. Great to see you.

25.01.2022 More fantastic research by the great Ken Medway. Thanks Ken.

24.01.2022 Harry Steele was born in England and immigrated to Australia as a 17 year old. He worked on the land in Molong, New South Wales. He later joined the NSW Police Force and was stationed at Darcyville, then Randwick and then out to Broken Hill. Harry shared some of his life with us before he died. He was a proud man and loved telling me his stories. Take a look at some of what Harry shared.

22.01.2022 Francis Fyfe. Broken hill Honour Roll. Thanks to Ken Medway.

22.01.2022 Just a reminder to the Back To Barrier Family. The whole objective of this facebook site at the moment is to identify all those Police Officers who served at Broken Hill since 1888 when the first Police Station was established in Argent Street. Back then, it was a tin shack. If you have a photo of a relative who served, please consider the need for that Relative to receive a Paver to honour that service. We need to get as many Police Officers a Paver as possible. If you wo...uld like to also donate money to go towards a Paver for someone we have identified as having no family, like our 1919 Crew Photo, please let us help you making that donation. Remember, all monies received will be donated to NSW Police Legacy. Cheers all. See more

22.01.2022 Congratulations to all. Well deserved and we thank you for your Service.

22.01.2022 Back To Barrier wishes to thank Jill Hardaker and her family for sponsoring two of our 1919 crew. With their kind donation, Sergeant Mills and Constable Neil will take their place among their past and future colleagues. Thanks Jill and Family.

21.01.2022 Thanks to Ken Medway. More research on the Broken Hill Honour Roll for WWI and WWII.

21.01.2022 Back To Barrier wish to thank the Acting Commander, Darren Brand and the Barrier Police District Administration Staff for allowing us to be the first, we believe, to release this "Artists Impression" of what our new Broken Hill Police Station will look like. As always, there will be changes, but by the looks of the front apron, there will be plenty of room for our Paver Project. We believe that construction commences in December.

20.01.2022 Rodney O'Regan has supplied this newspaper cutting of the 1972 ANZAC Day March. The caption gives us the full detail. We reported previously that Rod went to Vietnam after his first stint in Broken Hill. That is incorrect. Rodney returned from Vietnam and then made his way to Broken Hill in late 1971 after returning to Australia and recommencing his policing career.

20.01.2022 On this page are many old Police Officers who worked in Broken Hill in the 1960's. My cousin lives in Tathra and is very good friends with Steve Allison. He informs me that Steve was also Stationed in Broken Hill during that time. My cuz will be speaking to him over the coming days. Does anyone out there know of Steve?? Do you have any photos of him??? My Cuz does state that he is quite blind. Can anyone help?

20.01.2022 As a Constable, Eric Madden and his wife Kathy and son arrived for duty in Tibooburra in 1944 for a seven year posting. Three years later, Eric and Kathleen became the proud parents of Judy, now Judy Hermanson, who was married Carl. Carl retired from the NSWPF as a Det Ch Inspector in 1997. Judy has now placed her order for her Fathers and Husbands Paver. And along with those Orders, she has forwarded on to us a letter. She has given this speech as her Probius Club meetin...g. The letter gives an insight to how live was in Tibooburra during the first three years of her life. Thanks for sharing Judy.

19.01.2022 Here is Ken Medway's Research on Thomas McBarron. Thanks once again Ken.

17.01.2022 There is a story floating around the Back To Barrier family where years ago, most likely 1971, two of Broken Hill's Finest came up a bit short in the arrest of a Drunk Driver. The Driver, according to numerous reports, was able to arrive home to his residence before the said Police were able to "effect the arrest". The story only now begins. As the "Alleged Drink Driver" entered his front door, his "Most Beloved", "She Who Must Be Obeyed", was waiting at the door for him. "...Beloved's" response was not what our "Alleged Drunk Driver" was actually looking for. The onset ensued. To seek refuge from said Onslaught, our "Alleged Drink Driver" sought the protection of the same two Police Officers who had missed their target. The arrest was then made, and the welfare of the "Alleged Drunk Driver" protected. This incident was later picked up by a Newspaper Cartoonist.

14.01.2022 Information re: Harry Steele. Update 26.11.2020. Harry himself and his family wish to keep Harry's funeral a family only affair. They will be holding a private cremation. Before he died, Harry told me of his appreciation for the Palliative Care Nurses that came each day to tend to his needs.... So, in lieu of sending flowers and the like, Back To Barrier are setting up a Donation Trail with Palliative Care Broken Hill. If you wish to make a donation to Broken Hill Palliative Care, we are using our Back To Barrier Account as the Direct Debit location. We have spoken to Melissa Cumming from Palliative Care today and her systems tell us that if you direct deposit to them, the money will be placed into a general account and won't reach them. So we will collect what donations we have and then do a Cheque Presentation to Palliative Care when all donations are received. Bank Details: Commonwealth Bank. BSB: 06 2513 Acc No: 1037 5082 Please use your Transaction Description as "Harry Steele". That way, we will know your intention. Give Generously. Thanks All. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au//s/broken-hill-2880-thomas

13.01.2022 Back to Barrier wish to thank Rod O'Regan, Monte Jones and Sherilyn White for their donation of $25 each. This donation has enabled Sgt F.J. Colllings to receive a Paver. Sgt Collings is part of the 1919 Crew Photo. When ordering a Paver, we would appreciate a small donation added to your payment so we can order a Paver for all of our 1919 Crew, or you can fully sponsor one of the 1919 Crew. We are about half way there. Thanks all.

13.01.2022 This photo is of the Broken Hill Police Force in 1896. This photo would depict "Tracker Tommy", front and centre. If there is anyone out there that can place a name to a Police Officer, please do so. Photo supplied by the wonderful Sherilyn White. Thanks Sherilyn.

Harry passed away in the early hours of Tuesday the 24th of November, 2020. Our hearts go out to Pat and the rest of the Family. We are thinking of you at this sad time.

08.01.2022 Please take Note: Re Harry Steele. In lieu of Flowers and the like, We at B2B have set up a place where you can donate to the Palliative Care Nurses who so ably looked after Harry in his final weeks of his life. These people do a tremendous job and we look forward for you to make a Donation. Details are on the Pinned Post above.

07.01.2022 Harry, Pat and the rest of the family have asked us here a B2B to let you all know that our friend and former colleague Harry Steele is fighting a terrible cancer that has quickly developed. We saw Harry about 9 weeks ago arranging his Paver where at 81, Harry was looking fit and healthy. Unfortunately, the cancer is through Harry's Spine and has now entered his Brain. His cancer is terminal. In the meantime, Harry and Pat are helping with information on Harry's life and hi...s Policing Career. I never realised he is a "Bloody Pommy". We will report back soon. In the meantime, please keep Harry and the Family in your Thoughts.

06.01.2022 Thanks again to Sherilyn for this photo. Some Broken Hill Legends here. Caption give us full details. We just don't have a year.

05.01.2022 At this moment, we are researching the careers of a number of Police Officers who were attached to the Barrier Police Distict in all its past forms. Family are putting together photos and records so we can complete their Bio's. But one new addition to our Back To Barrier Family is Rodney Stephen O'Regan who came to Broken Hill in 1971 as a First Class Constable for a few years before Enlisting in the Australian Army and went off fighting in the Vietnam War. Rodney was a Tunnel Rat, a dangerous occupation. After his War Service, Rod returned to the NSWPF and returned to Broken Hill for a second attachment in the 1980's. Rod and his lovely wife have supplied these photos of his Police and Army Career. We will get back to Rod and get his full Service Details.

03.01.2022 Thanks Ken. This is a sad story. Whatever happened to him?? A real mystery.

03.01.2022 Ken Medway's research on Ewen McInnes, Broken Hill Honour Roll. Thanks Ken.

03.01.2022 Back To Barrier will be meeting with the Builders of the new Police Station in the next fortnight. We will be outlining our project and get them on board. In the meantime, we feel that we have now only a limited time to get our Orders in, manufactured and ready for laying. We don't know how long this process takes, but we want you to get your Order in so you don't Miss Out. Act Now... Get your Order In. Tell your friends, share this on your FB timeline. Cheers All.

03.01.2022 B2B Challenge. Who are these Police Officers and when was this photo taken. Cheers all.

02.01.2022 There are number of books on the market that we are using to do our research on all things Broken Hill and Back To Barrier. One is True Blue. 150 Years of Service and Sacrifice of the New South Wales Police Force by Patrick Lindsay. Another is The Richest Lode. Broken Hil 1883 - 1988 by R. J. Solomon. Both very worthwhile books on anyone's book shelf. In Part Two of Patrick's book, 1862 - 1899, he writes...... "With the passing of the Police Regulation Act of 1862, the various police forces operating in NSW - the Sydney Foot Police, the Mounted Police, the Sydney Water Police, the Rural Constabulary, the Border Police and Native Police - were finally gathered together into one cohesive body, the NSW Police Force." On Wednesday, the 5th of March 1862, No: 1 of the NSW Police Gazette was issued. This Gazette outlined how the Colony was divided, "For Police Purposes" into several Districts. See the attached second page of that Gazette. But hang on... no mention of Broken Hill... no mention of Ivanhoe, Wilcannia... No mention of any "Western" areas past Dubbo. No Dareton or Wentworth. What the hell is going on here I thought. So, I pulled out The Line of Lode. Mystery solved. In 1883, The richest ore body in the history of mining was discovered by Charles Rasp, a Boundary Rider. Five years later, in September 1888, the Municipality of Broken Hill was born, 26 years after the formation of the NSW Police Force. Broken Hill's first Police Station is described as a "Tin Shack". There is a deep history of Policing in Broken Hill and we hope to uncover some of it in the coming year or so while our new Police Station is being built. I recommend both books mentioned. True Blue is currently on special at the NSW Police Shop in Goulburn.

01.01.2022 Robert Charles Findlay was born in 1891 in Bathurst N.S.W. He joined the NSW Police Force and became a Probationary Constable on 10th of September 1912. He then headed out to Broken Hill and was stationed at the South Police Station in Patton Street. Robert's Grand Daughter Judy has supplied these photos and records. We are searching for a better photo of him but at this state, this is the only one. We don't know when Robert left the NSWPF, but it was after he married and ...started having children. He then got a better paying job on the Mines. We will be talking to other family members during the week and we will see what records and photos they have.

01.01.2022 Reposting as we had a problem with FB... Thanks to Judy.
