24.01.2022 Planning for our 10th BRC50 has begun however I took the opportunity to search on the Walsh river for a lost fishing reel before the rains start. With kind permission to access the river from the station owners the mission was a success. 9 months submerged may mean it is not salvageable though.

23.01.2022 Friday afternoon was a good k1 run to biboohra from 4pm. We took under 1 hour with 2 portages and one chat to the rafters below high rocks. With the storm run off almost daily then a 1.50-1.70m Mareeba equates to around 1.90m by biboohra. Two blockages are yet to be cleared by TCC(here’s hoping they get flushed out)- one at 1.5km and the other 2 km below high rocks rapid. Johnny Westcott popped up from Townsville last weekend and is quite envious of us Mareeba it’s having 20km of grade 1 water flowing through our town. TCC is putting a TC2 team in the Gregory this year(1st time I think) and we will be gearing up for our race at the end of May soon. See you on the Barron some time soon.

20.01.2022 Fishing from a Gregory River Racer TC2 has its challenges. JVR makes catching and releasing this 95 cm Barra look easy.

11.01.2022 Always a great warm up for our BRC50.

09.01.2022 What have you spotted Rod? With Lake Tinaroo at (-.77m), it’s a great time to explore the Barron river arm.

09.01.2022 Big day at the office clearing out a major log jam. BRC12 course to biboohra is open and portage free.

08.01.2022 Rounding off day one of Basic Skills course on a quite stretch of the Barron river. A few seniors of 2020 are making plans to tackle the 2021 BRC50 now rescheduled for the last weekend in May. Is that a ‘Bernie Dobe paddle’ Liam?

07.01.2022 Rhetto and JVR cross training on beautiful Lake Tinaroo In autumn.

05.01.2022 What I didn’t admit last post was that I lost my preferred Yukon 1000 paddle as we emptied my 40 year old TC2 Peterborough during last Saturday’s river paddle. Well the chocolate water doesn’t last long on the tablelands. Probably a better find than my reel

04.01.2022 The mighty Barron River. It really is an exciting river to paddle. Spot the sea eagle.

04.01.2022 Pruning paddle to Koah. A couple of logs to portage- 2 km before biboohra and 4 km below.

04.01.2022 Warm up at the Gregory for our 10th Anniversary BRC50 (30/31st May) entry opens in a few weeks.

03.01.2022 Chasing platypus with the single blade. Too hard to choose between races on this weekend so explored the dam at high water.

03.01.2022 Wet paddling at Tinaroo today. Practiced putting a tent up in rain. Should pay dividends in July. K1’s to Bilwon with Townsville’s JW Sunday.

01.01.2022 Our 10th annual race will be held at the end of May. If you wish to trial the course then access our website and/or contact our members.

01.01.2022 We completed our virtual Gregory River Marathons but needed the actual visit when allowed this September 2020. Many of our Tinaroo Canoe Club members like fishing as much as paddling. After a minimum of 250 collective Van Ryt’s fishing years at the Gregory- Natasha scored a first - this special Saratoga. (between the Knobbies and the Finish). All fish were released.
