20.01.2022 On Thursday April 23, I was officially sworn in as Councillor, Division 1, Cassowary Coast Regional Council. I was also elected to the position of Deputy Mayor for CCRC. I am very proud to serve my Division as well as this beautiful region.... We have an opportunity to move our community forward through the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the troubling times of the past four years. I see a strong and positive future here for all. It will not be easy, nor is it impossible, it will take focus, dedication and most of all, the commitment, willingness and energy of our community to work together to build the future we desire for ourselves as well as our children. To all my supporters, residents of the Cassowary Coast and my fellow Councillors, thank you for bestowing upon me the honour of serving as a Councillor and also as your Deputy Mayor. I pledge to serve with passion, commitment and most of all a dedication to this region and this community.

19.01.2022 Division 1 needs strong representation. Our current system of waste management needs a serious review. We must reduce the amount of waste we produce and look creatively at what we do with waste. It cant just all go in the ground. ... Building or expanding new transfer stations is a multi-million dollar project, and how do we fund it? This current Council are failing us when it comes to waste. Do they really have the eyes on the ball, or are they distracted by other matters? Authorised B Barnes, 86 Keir Rd, Tully. Q 4854

18.01.2022 Due to COVID-19 restrictions there's no commemoration this year for the Battle of the Coral Sea. This Sunday, May 3 would have been the 78th anniversary of the the battle. Over a 5 day period, 800 km east of Cardwell, this battle served as a major blow to the Japanese Imperial Navy and most likely saved Australia from possible invasion.... Please pause and reflect, spend a moment to remember and when travel restrictions are eased, if you can visit the memorial in Cardwell, please do so.

18.01.2022 A good supply of clean, drinkable water should be considered fair and reasonable here on the Cassowary Coast. Once again we have a boil water alert, this is just not good enough. We only have three options:... 1/ put up with it (not very appropriate) 2/ build large water storage facilities (capable of supplying a township for 10 or more days) 4.5 megalitres - only 2 - 3 days storage. 3/ reduce our town water usage Its important that we have a Council that concentrates on options 2 and 3. Boil water alerts should not be happening on the Cassowary Coast. Clean, clear drinking water is what we need on the Cassowary Coast, and Division 1 Needs Barry Barnes. Authorised B Barnes, 86 Keir Rd, Tully. Q 4854

17.01.2022 Our regions boat ramps are in need of an overhaul. One of the major issues faced by boaties in the Cassowary Coast is the difficulty with boat ramp access during low tide. This can be made even harder if there is significant build-up of mud.... Our boat ramps service local, but are also used by thousands of tourists who visit our region each year in search of great fishing. Now more than ever, we need to ensure our facilities are at their best. We renowned for our fishing and boating here on the Cassowary Coast, our boat ramps must be cleaned and access to the water improved. Fishing and boating will attract and keep visitors here for longer, we need to clean and overhaul our boat ramps, and Division 1 needs Barry Barnes. Authorised B Barnes, 86 Keir Rd, Tully. Q 4854

17.01.2022 As of tomorrow morning, I will officially be a Councillor for Division 1 and also the Cassowary Coast. It is my intention to positively promote my division and region to all residents as also visitors. You can help me do this, please like and share my posts, also invite your friends to like and share my post and my page.... I want to build a very positive on-line community here. A community that celebrates this region and supports all those with their shoulders to the wheel trying to make it happen. Have a great day and lets remember, it is better to light one candle than curse the dark.

16.01.2022 Come on Cassowary Coast - we can all make a difference. With the COVID-19 pandemic we all have an opportunity to build a better community, a stronger and more neighbourly community. Get to know the names and phone numbers of all your neighbours... Check daily to ensure they are OK (by phone or shout them over the fence) Grab some groceries for them when you head off to the shops Ask if theres anything they need doing. If we all band together (social distancing precautions) we as a community can come out of this as a better community. Authorised B Barnes, 86 Keir Rd, Tully. Q 4854

16.01.2022 We need activities for families and the youth of Cardwell and surrounds. Many of the residents I have spoken to over the past 4 weeks have asked about having a water park in Cardwell. If Im elected, I will work with the community as well as within Council to deliver more services for families and the youth in Cardwell.... Where should we put a water park? At the Cardwell Pool, or the Foreshore? What do you think? Authorised B Barnes, 86 Keir Rd, Tully. Q 4854

16.01.2022 Division 1 needs strong representation. Its time to restore the communitys pride in their Council as well as allowing the workers to feel less under pressure and proud of who they work for and the important job they have. This takes more than a slick slogan Better Together or . Love the play you live... This will take time to restore the faith and trust of the community; we cannot afford another 4 years of what we have. Its important to take the first step and vote for a change. If we keep doing what we are doing we will keep getting what we are getting. Authorised B Barnes, 86 Keir Rd, Tully. Q 4854

15.01.2022 Its not rocket science. We need more workers doing what Council is supposed to be doing Looking after our region, ensuring we get real value for money from our rates. There was a time when Council employed large numbers of apprentices, trained them, skilled them up and then continued to employ them as trades-people.... Where are those days? We also used to have more outdoor workers than indoor workers, but sadly that is no longer the case. Division 1 needs fresh energy, needs a plan, and needs revitalising. Cardwell is the entrance town to our region, and should sparkle and welcome the thousands of travellers on the Bruce Highway every day. Office workers cannot make a town sparkle. Yellow shirts are what we need, and Division 1 Needs Barry Barnes. Authorised B Barnes, 86 Keir Rd, Tully. Q 4854

15.01.2022 We are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world for boating and fishing. How much better will it be heading out in your boat from Port Hinchinbrook once One Mile Creek canal and channel have been dredged, and there is safe permanent access for boaters? My mates Eric Haack, John Wilkie and I had a great day out at the end of February, but had to wait 1.5 hours to get our boat out. Written and authorised by Barry Barnes, 86 Keir Road, Tully.

13.01.2022 Division 1 needs strong representation. Year-round supply of clean water is essential for economic development in our region. We need to explore ways to decrease water consumption and increase water storage. There are many great water efficient devised and appliances on the market today. ... Council must lead the way to encourage water economy - Smart Meters - Water Tanks - Water efficient appliances - Water efficient plumbing Water is too important to let it run down the drain. Lets make boil water alerts a thing of the past. Authorised B Barnes, 86 Keir Rd, Tully. Q 4854

12.01.2022 It has been confirmed overnight there are now two cases of COVID-19 here in the Cassowary Coast. This should not unduly alarm our residents. Its important that we all follow the guidelines widely published. Self-isolate - avoid going out... Practice good hygiene - hand washing with soap is very effective Maintain social distancing - its essential Cover-up coughs and sneezes Remember the person most at risk may not be yourself, it might be your mum or dad, a loved one, a friend getting over an illness or cancer. We are all in this together, we have no choice, but what we do have is a choice about what we do to keep our loved ones safe.

11.01.2022 What a great way to spend a weekend setting up camp at Hull Heads. (No Blue Sky guaranteed this weekend). Written and authorised by Barry Barnes, 86 Keir Road, Tully.

10.01.2022 COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE GRANT CLOSES THIS THURSDAY Funds of up to $3,000 are being offered to local not-for-profit organisations that provide benefit to the region. Funds are not intended for the purchase of equipment, and the project must be completed in the 20/21 Financial Year.... In the face of this unprecedented pandemic, and uncertainty of when restrictions will be lifted into the future, organisations and community groups are urged to use this opportunity to provide ways to support health and wellbeing support to residents, as well as economic recovery of the region. 03.01.2022 Economic development depends upon 3 main components A good supply of labour Continuous supply of affordable electricity Guaranteed supply of WATER... Whats missing here on the Cassowary Coast? Water ongoing clean supply of drinking water. Unless we can guarantee an ongoing supply of good clean drinking water we will never develop as a region. The opportunities are here now in Mission Beach, but our regions water supply is a serious hurdle that needs to be fixed NOW. Clean, clear drinking water is what we need on the Cassowary Coast, and Division 1 Needs Barry Barnes. Authorised B Barnes, 86 Keir Rd, Tully. Q 4854
