23.01.2022 I had an enjoyable time photographing this dwelling for a builder client, Fenhurst Homes. Lighting unfurnished areas can be quite a challenge and overcoming the...se issues is gratifying and always a new learning curve.. Each house presents it's own unique lighting situations and it's my job to display these areas in a way that looks as natural as possible, yet create a touch of drama. See more

22.01.2022 What more can one say. Our firefighters are heroes, every one of them.

22.01.2022 From the Lockdown archives... This is an image from a family photography session in a Commercial studio I hired. I photographed the family in their normal attire and then in beach attire as a fun concept. One of the benefits of working in such a controlled environment is that if anything spontaneous happens, it can be captured in a flash ( pun intended ). In the case of this image, the family's youngest daughter did a little ballet dance and her brother joined her. I saw this, clicked the camera shutter and captured that special moment.

21.01.2022 It's interesting how conversations with clients or acquaintances can lead to new photographic opportunities. In this case, photographing items for insurance purposes. A Royal Dalton vintage vase.

20.01.2022 Feeling privileged that this iconic, Australian Rock Band Stars, selected a photograph I took for their new album cover.

18.01.2022 Wishing all my Likers, their families and friends, good health in these trying times. Be well and may you stay well.

18.01.2022 I'm fortunate that a lot of my professional photography work has a lot of variety. Conferences, Events, Headshots, Corporate and Architecture, most of which are industrial or homes.... Whilst walking early one night during winter, I noticed the effect a single or sometimes, multiple streetlights can have when they illuminate buildings. In this case, it was one streetlight. The camera I used was hand held and fortunately has high ISO capabilities. Yes, there is a grain, but somehow it adds to the soft light and overall effect. I've started a personal art project of these and have called them "Night Light" Leica Camera

16.01.2022 I recently had an inquiry from a client who requires some images for a new consulting business. We discussed the theme and he wanted to avoid having a neutral background, preferring something more natural. I suggested his home and mentioned I had photographed other professionals this way. He was a little surprised, but I mentioned that there are many parts of homes that if selected carefully, can appear to be in an office or corridor. Here are some examples of a physiotherapy group I photographed about a year ago.

15.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago, I had a request to photograph a "head and shoulders portrait"... I'm thinking "headshot", which is an image of a person, generally used to put a face to a name in professional profiles on Linkedin etc.... After taking a few images and chatting with the client, it became apparent that the images were to be used for an academic book to be published, thus not really a headshot per say, but more like a portrait. I changed tact, switched off the studio lights and utilised the natural light from windows and commenced another session trying to get to the inner character of my client. I think it worked as per the B&W image displayed. He was happy and walked away with images for two applications.

14.01.2022 During a recent headshot photography session of several personnel for a client, this friendly gentleman entered the photography area, posed as pictured, and asked how I would like him photographed... I couldn't resist taking this spontaneous moment and really liked the result... The image brief was for head and shoulders for an annual report, so I photographed him in that traditional manner as well. Sometimes it's the unexpected that makes for the most interesting portraits.

14.01.2022 RIP The Hon John Cain. I had the privilege to photograph him on behalf of a client a few years ago. A true gentleman who was a progressive Premier for Victoria.

14.01.2022 Here is an image that I took in a local street that somehow reflects the quietness and solitude of these Lock-down times. The lighting comes from a lamp post and the camera is a portable Leica M10 which, due to it's high ISO settings, enabled me to hand hold it.

13.01.2022 Whilst on assignment in Sydney, I couldn't resist the temptation to photograph this parrot at the NSW Gallery who was eyeing off my lunch.

13.01.2022 During last year and this year's Lockdowns, I've been re-visiting some of the other genres of photography I did and re-worked some images to create a more art-based portrait style. This bridal portrait was originally in colour and was a vertical composition. After converting the image to B&W and some carefully balanced recomposing to create a square image, a new photograph is born. Last year, I worked on some portraits and headshots which generated interest with some Corporate clients resulting in sales. This year, maybe a time for Brides revisited.

11.01.2022 Last week, I had the privilege to photograph members of the reformed iconic 70's rock band, "Stars". Some images were taken in the studio, but my favourite and I'm pleased to say theirs also, is this image, which was taken in a side entrance and adjusted later in Photo-Shop.... Being allowed to photograph them rehearsing various songs was a special highlight and one I won't forget.

10.01.2022 This is one of several images I have, which start off as a personal project and if the client likes it, becomes a commercial one... These photos span over a period of 6 months from when this gentleman, a local dentist, had the first image taken ( middle ), then many months later, with a full beard and afterwards, fully shaved. On each occasion, he wore the same clothes and the studio lighting was similar. He embraced the whole idea, was very obliging and ultimately pleased with the results.

09.01.2022 This week's photography assignment, a business portrait. These are trying times and many are suffering....Some are able to seek alternative ways to overcome these obstacles and the gentleman in this image is one of them. He is a financial and business advisor, an industry currently almost in shutdown. What to do? Create a new business website and recalibrate its business model and marketing...There was no office available at this point, so I suggested we do the photography at his home.... Most homes have a nook and cranny where a professional look can be created. In this case, a curved hallway with an open door... "Welcome to my office".

08.01.2022 While we are all in lock-down to combat this virus, I'll go through my archives and post some of the more interesting moments of shoots I've done.... I stopped photographing weddings in 2011 and changed to Corporate Photography, but a few years before, I had a lovely day photographing this delightful couple's wedding....We went to a mini farm in the Yarra Valley to take some images and as I was photographing a romantic moment with the couple, these 3 ducks came into the frame. I couldn't believe our luck! I call this image "3 Bridesmaids.

08.01.2022 Another environmental portrait, this time of a cafe owner in Prahran. I thought it timely, considering the hardships that the hospitality industry and such family owned businesses are going through, especially in Melbourne. The concept was a no fuss session photographed quickly to minimize any possible disruption to business. ..Big cameras and lighting set ups were out of the question...The cafe has large windows which open out to the street, so the front area was ideal. I wa...nted a relaxed friendly feel to the image, so the owner has happy to seat himself on the bar close to the windows. The lighting in the cafe was well illuminated and balanced nicely with the natural light from the windows. Have light will travel...Frame, focus and click.. The camera I used, a Leica M10 was small and discreet. At first the owner thought I'd bought along a toy, but soon realized it wasn't. See more

07.01.2022 Lock-Down Pics. Here's another image from when I photographed weddings. It was taken of the bride and groom dancing the bridal waltz at their reception over a decade ago. The lighting was bounced flash and ambient light.... However, there is another story.... The bride at the time, was a new Doctor who chose a career in a hospital environment rather than as a GP in a practice. Her career has been one of growth, development, mentoring and dealing with the day to day issues of being at the "coal face". She's also a mum...Currently, she's a warrior woman dealing with the current Corona Virus. A front line hero.

07.01.2022 Lock down images from The Vault: This is one of my favourite bridal party images. I sat on the ground with a wide angle lens and asked some of the bridal party to get in really close, while others were a bit further away. The photo breaks with the traditional and also bends the rules, but it created an exciting, different and fun image. This wedding was one of the last before I changed to Corporate photography. About a year or so later, the bride contacted me to photograph some headshots at the company she worked for... She and others, contributed to a new photography career for which I'm grateful for.

07.01.2022 Some of the notables I've had the privilege to photograph. These people have changed the lives of Australians for the better and in some case, continue to do so.

06.01.2022 This image is of acoustic blues, folk and jazz maestro, Nick Charles who I've also photographed professionally.... It's part of a new project of character portraits which display the inner persona, rather than the style often used for professional headshots, which are more about engagement...Unlike the controlled studio style lighting I utilise for professional headshots, this image was actually photographed in a cafe with window light.... The camera was a Leica M with a 35mm lens and the image was cropped square in post production. A 35mm lens is a good all rounder, but requires careful composition when photographing relatively close portraits. It worked a treat here.

05.01.2022 Lock Down Pics from back in the day.....This wedding image I took, is really from the days of yore, in fact pre-digital... B&W film, scanned and coloured. The camera was probably a Hasselblad or perhaps a Leica SLR. This was the first time the flower girl had ever worn a dress. She was from the country and loved playing with her brothers and helping her dad out on the farm. The groom was a well know AFL player whose name now escapes me, who was a lovely person as was the bride. Weddings were enjoyable but stressful shoots, which provided special memories for couples to look back on.

05.01.2022 Another headshot from 2019. This young gentleman was straight from university and into a new life in banking. I can still remember my first day at work many decades ago. Scared and excited at the same time.

05.01.2022 Wishing all my followers a Great festive season! See you in 2020.

04.01.2022 Another Environmental Portrait... For several years, I've been photographing some of the quality homes built by a family owned business. The two owners pictured, met at school and became good friends. After school, they went on to learn their crafts and formed a building company...They were also best men at each others weddings and have families of their own. Top guys who care a lot about quality. When I'm photographing one of their buildings, I'm generally on my own, but so...metimes, one might be there making the final touches before the new owners take over the keys. On this occasion, both were at a just completed double story house, checking out that everything was as it should be, including this bathroom. I had a wireless speedlite set up on the left and couldn't resist taking this image of the guys who kindly obliged... A story in a picture. See more

01.01.2022 An Environmental Portrait can portray a person in their workplace, their home or in an environment which is part of their lifestyle. This image is of a well know ophthalmologist, who I had the privilege to photograph a few years ago. It instantly conveys what the person is professionally and can be used for brochures, websites, articles etc. It can also be a nice addition to those treasured family photos as I can attest to. I have a photo of my dad in his office.

01.01.2022 When photographing family events, I always try to take some individual portraits when the right circumstances such as lighting and time present themselves. The B&W image was of a guest taken at an 80th birthday celebration in a pub which had large windows allowing lots of natural light to come in. On that day, I also took a portrait of a 90 + year old lady who passed away not long after. That portrait with her son, was requested for her funeral.... A quick snap at such events can become a treasured memory.
