21.01.2022 We've been greatly saddened to see the crippling effects that bushfires can have on so many of our rural communities. This hits especially close to us as we belong to a rural community ourselves. There has been a lot of talk among the architectural community about how to help. Beyond donations to provide immediate support there will be a long struggle ahead for those that work to re-build their homes and lives. For those who face this challenge we know its stressful. ... Not only are there financial hurdles but today's building and planning controls are ever more stringent as well. This is something we can help with. Early this year weve signed up to the architects assist program. This program is a collective pledge for architects and building designers to provide pro bono assistance with the planning of a house build. This is already something we've been thinking about. An intimate understanding of high bushfire risk areas developed through some past projects has lead us to explore some of the principles that can be used for buildings that are vulnerable. For 2020 we hope we can devote some collective help to re-build rural communities. We hope that through what we listen to and learn, that we could help to improve resilience for communities in the future.

It has been a very productive 2017 with thanks to all our clients and consultants for making it so. 10.01.2022 A reminder from Facebook popped up today to say that some people who liked Barry Sweet havent heard from us in a while. Its true that we have been a little bit incognito on social media for some time now. This is not to say that we disappeared entirely - many of the local projects that we had been working on are being seen through to construction and completion. Some months ago I (Amanda) started working in Melbourne again on a few larger projects as part of a team of arch...itects. In an ever-evolving creative industry this has provided a great opportunity to extend professionally and to share knowledge and ideas. This is a path that Id like to stay on to see what may come. So while Barry Sweet has changed focus wed still like to take the opportunity to thank our clients ( including past and ongoing clients), friends and supporters for some of the work that has emerged in our beloved local Kyneton.
