24.01.2022 We've just been presented with our first local infection of the Crypt0l0cker virus. This nasty piece of software gets onto your computer by pretending to be, in this case, an emailed notice from the Australian Federal Police. This encourages you to run it - then it calls home, and starts to encrypt (i.e. make unreadable and unusable) almost everything on your harddrive, along with any other network shared drives or USB drives it can find. Want your data back? There are only ...two options. 1) Pay a ransom in the order of $650, and hope that the criminals encrypting your data are honest enough to give you the key to unlock your data. 2) Restore your computer from a backup. You will lose photos, documents and so much more - so, when was the last time you backed up your computer? Remember, a good backup doesn't just provide a last line of defence when faced with these sorts of virus - it also means that if there is a physical theft, a catastrophic hardware failure or other problem, you don't lose those 10,000 photos! We know you can never have too many backups :D

22.01.2022 Did you know that we are fluent in Apple hardware and software as well as Windows? If you need iHelp then just call your friendly, local Bartek techs. We'll take the time to explain, teach and most importantly give you time to practice.

21.01.2022 People with genuine Apple AC adapters, for Mac or iOS devices, please check your adaptor for this recall.

20.01.2022 NBN is coming, finally - fast internet is coming to Eden Valley via fixed wireless services (WiMAX). This is excellent news for those of you struggling at the end of a 3G dongle with high prices and poor availability, you can check whether you'll be covered using the online coverage checker below.

20.01.2022 We have moved! You'll now find us up the hill in Angaston at 7 John Dallwitz Ave. To get here, just head up Sturt St, turn left on Anton St then take your first left.

17.01.2022 It's another great time to get your hands on a fantastic password manager at a heavy discount. Storing those passwords and sensitive pieces of information on your computer in a Word document? Stop it! Instead use a tool which will protect that information, without making it unusable and inaccessible. Before you ask, no we don't earn a commission from 1Password - we are just users who are genuinely impressed that this product does what it says on the tin: makes it easy to have secure, unique passwords across all your logins.

16.01.2022 Latest web work is up: http://barossabird.com.au/ Barossa Bird Club needed someone to urgently get in and update their website. Never one to do things by halves, we quickly organized transfer to a cpanel hosting company (saving the club $150-$200/year in the process) and got the job done. But why stop there? We want our clients to be in charge of their updates. So we converted their old site to a responsive Joomla website. Now with a little training, we can hand them the keys and let them update their own site any time they need to.

08.01.2022 Always good to check your computer for software you're not using. QuickTime has in the past been installed with iTunes, so it is worth removing.

07.01.2022 An important thing to note if you've gone to iOS 9, and don't have an unlimited data plan on your phone: when your Wi-Fi performance degrades, this setting tells your phone to use it's mobile data to pick up the slack. You can turn it off - Settings > Mobile > (scroll down to below the "Use Mobile Data For" apps list) Wi-Fi Assist, turn it off.

05.01.2022 Was delighted to pop into Betta Electrical Nuriootpa's opening for their new Apple Reseller area. Great to have a friendly neighbourhood place to grab iPad, Mac & Macbook devices, cables and so on. Didn't win a free Apple TV - but if you did and want to know more about it, we're here to help!

03.01.2022 More web work: http://bootmakerscottage.com.au/ for Bootmaker's Cottage This has been a long project, but we're finally here!

03.01.2022 Those viruses that encrypt your computer's hard drive are still doing the rounds.. Including pretending to be from Australia Post! Make sure you keep up with your regular backups to avoid losing data.

02.01.2022 NBN to townships: yes, it is coming, but the bad news is that it's still at least 18 months away! The townships of Nuri, Ango & Tanunda are on the list to be done, but if you are living in the (somewhat arbitrary) boundaries of these towns during this time even though WiMAX is in the skies over your head, we still have time to wait.
