25.01.2022 REMINDER Changes to employee superannuation laws take effect as of the 1st November 21. From 1st November 2021, if you have new employees start and they don't choose a super fund, you may have an extra step to take to comply with choice of fund rules. You need to request their 'stapled super fund' details from the ATO. A stapled super fund is an existing super account linked, or 'stapled,' to an individual employee. Hence, it follows them as they change jobs. This scheme ai...ms to reduce account fees and avoid employees obtaining multiple super accounts. WHAT TO DO FROM NOVEMBER 1ST 1Offer eligible employees a choice of a super fund (No change) by supplying a Superannuation standard choice form. 2Request stapled super fund details - If your employee doesn't choose a super fund, you need to log into an ATO online service to request their stapled super fund details. A registered BAS Agent can also do this for you. 3Pay super into the stapled super fund - If the ATO provides a stapled super fund result for your employee, you must pay your employee's super guarantee contributions to the stapled super fund details we provide. You can pay into your default fund or another fund that meets the choice of fund rules if: your employee doesn't choose a super fund, and we have advised you that they don't have a stapled super fund.
