Payne attended Minor League Umpiring School in the USA in early 2019, for many a stepping stone to calling games in various minor leagues in America on their way to the MLB! You don't have to have dreams of being the next Joe West, Hunter Wendelstedt, or John Tumpane to start umpiring, there are opportunities at every level in SA.
