18.01.2022 Some good advice here from Jimmy Chin... "Simplify your huge challenge in your mind by breaking it into smaller tasks and preparing for each of them, one at a time. Focus on the variables you can control- like your own fitness level & endurance [and] identify the variables you can't control"

15.01.2022 The Freedom of the Hills That was the book that changed my life. Long before I was a ‘mountaineer’ i was definitely an ‘armchair mountaineer’. I read every book about climbing big mountains that I could get my hands on. Particularly books about Everest and the tragedies and heroism. I was encapsulated by the romanticism of it all. But Freedom of the Hills isn’t a story. It’s an instruction booklet on how to be a climber. It has just about everything you need to know to go int...o the mountains safely. Of course you need to put these things in practise in real life with other more experienced people but it really helps just to read! Especially to freshen up the knowledge in between trips. Definitely recommended for the armchair mountaineer who wants to move into the real deal.

15.01.2022 THIS... is a problem we have the capacity to solve.... Andrea Ursina Zimmerman, an expedition guide who reached Everest's peak in 2016, says that many "traffic jams" are caused by unprepared climbers who "do not have the physical condition" for the journey. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-48401491
15.01.2022 4 basic things you want to do when you collect water in the mountains. 1. Ideally find a spring that comes directly out of the ground, it will be naturally filtered by the earth. 2. If not, collect from as high upstream as possible. Ask yourself if it's likely that a dead animal is lying in creek upstream? That's not good for your health. ... 3. Boil the water for at least 2 minutes. Boil it longer as you ascend in altitude. (Water boils at lower temps at altitude) 4. Throw a micropur tab in for every litre to make sure you kill all the nasty's. Finally, make sure you look suspiciously at the water like I am in this photo, despite the knowledge that the appearance of the water gives no real indication of its suitability to drink - you gotta have a good look at it.

I'm passionate about preparing people, fitness wise, to have a great time in the mountains and to show them that it's worth preserving for the future. 12.01.2022 What goes up, must come down. That’s why you should train for not just the uphill part but the downhill too, in facts that’s where most of the accidents happen. So if you want to get back to your girlfriend / partner / family / family sized pizza or ice cold brewski without hurting yaself...... Do the work!
09.01.2022 Not all lunges are equal - slight changes in your posture and weight distribution can make huuuge differences in the effectiveness of a movement. Take this robot lunge for example: (I called it robot lunge because it reminds me of some AI robot trying to move like a human.) I've recently changed the way I do bodyweight reverse lunges to this very upright style for 3 reasons: 1. It loads the back leg up with way more weight, meaning I can do more with less - why train in the g...ym with weights when I could train in this magical spot and make the most of my body? 2. It gives a bonus hip flexor stretch on each rep, something that I (and probably you) desperately need. 3. This move doesn't allow lazy reps, you must pay attention to each rep in order to get the full benefit - I like that value exchange based on being present. Training is the one hour or so each day when I don't have to think about work, so being present in each movement is a relief in a way. If you want the freedom to bust out a good workout at home with no equipment then hit me up, I've got a lovely little 20 minute bodyweight only routine I can share with you fo freee!! Also Keep in mind I'm a YouTube video kind of guy and I'm not used to formatting my videos to fit into Instagram land, if you think this doesn't suck too bad and you'd like me to post more stuff like this let me know
08.01.2022 Have you ever wasted money on something that just wasn’t right for you, and then you were stuck with it? It sucks! I want to prevent that! I would hate for a person to decide they were not an outdoorsy type just because of a shitty pair of socks, or a badly fitting pair of boots.... But the thing is, so few outdoor stores actually have staff who know what they’re talking about these days. It’s pretty rare to find a keen hiker or climber, especially in the large chain outdoor stores... So instead of wasting $200 or $300 or more on boots or a backpack that doesn’t suit you, you should do some research before buying right?? But that takes aaaages, unless.... it was all in one place... in a 35 page PDF that is totally free and available right here -------->http://bit.ly/essentialsgearguide So I just released that very ebook that is designed for the newbie hiker/ mountaineer who is just getting their first few pieces of hiking gear. The book is totally free because I want everyone to have this information! I want more people to get out any enjoy the hills, I want this world to have more hikers, because hikers are generally good, chill people who care about the planet. We need more of them I think! So whether you’re a new hiker yourself, or maybe you’re trying to convince a friend or family member that it’s not so painful and pointless and can actually be fun and incredibly rewarding... get this PDF! Get that knowledge!! and start loving your time in the mountains! Tag a friend who's a newbie who knows nuthin'
07.01.2022 There's a sentiment in the hiking community that Ultralight hiking is somehow dangerous, irresponsible and expensive. In this video, I unpack these issues in order to help you make safe gear decisions and lighten your pack based on the environment you're going in to.
