14.01.2022 A lovely soundscape and gorgeous scenery on my hike up Mt Roland Face Track this week. This is a steep and strenuous walk suited to fit, experienced wilderness walkers.

13.01.2022 We've just been awarded Superhost status for the fourth round in a row. Many thanks Kris, Sheri and Maeve for keeping Base Camp Railton sparkling clean for our AirBnb guests and Martin for looking after the garden. All currently laid off due to COVID19 restrictions.

08.01.2022 A WARNING TO POTENTIAL RENTERS Someone via Gumtree has offered this property and several others in the surrounding area for rent. We don't know who they are. We are using Roberts Real Estate in Devonport. There is a link to their ad in an earlier post on this page.

03.01.2022 About half an hour's drive from Base Camp Railton, the Mount Claude Lookout track starts opposite Round Mountain Lookout on Olivers Road C138. Suitable for experienced wilderness walkers with appropriate footwear and clothing, the return walk takes about two hours. The walk is mostly on a steep service road, followed by a section of wilderness walking to the lookout, rewarded by magnificent views across the Kentish Plains through to Devonport, Ulverstone, the Dial Range and Bass Strait. During Spring, weather conditions are variable, this shot taken on 24 September between light showers on a relatively warm day (9 degrees Celsius). Last week it was snowing up there.
