22.01.2022 Announcing the Simpson 300! Based on feedback for the first time ever we are going to trial a short course this year in addition to our usual long course ...format. The 300 will incorporate morning stages only (and of course the night stage). So if you’re wanting an introduction to the desert, want to avoid the hot afternoon stages or just want a shorter pedal this is your chance! Entries open 1 January: http://desertchallenge.org/ See more

20.01.2022 To everyone who is still following me here I hope winter is being kind to you. We had an absolute cracker of a day here on the Bass Coast on Sunday. Cold Yes. Wind none. Sun Heaps. I know some of you returned home and bought your own Fat bikes well here are some Photo's to remind you why you did that and to keep riding. Personally this year i'm heading back to the Simpson Desert Challenge so I wont be able to share any race up dates here. No phones and no internet. Bliss.

11.01.2022 Now this year’s race is over, it’s time to let you all in on the route for next year so you can start planning! This one aims to have all the best bits! AND A ...NIGHT STAGE!!! Starting back in Purnie Bore we’ll tackle the Rig Road, a section of the WAA, head up to the French Line, an out and back NIGHT stage at Poeppel Corner taking advantage of the early full moon rising and bring back the crowd favourite of the Little Red to Big Rd Stage before finishing up in Birdsville! Can you tell we’re excited? Don’t worry plenty more photos and stories from this year to come, we just didn’t want this year’s race village let you know before we did.
09.01.2022 The Simpson Desert Bike Challenge has been held annually for 33 years, inspired by the spirit of our riders and their determination to keep going no matter what... nature throws at them. Recently Australia has been faced with some very difficult times with drought, floods and fires. Now we are emerging from the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the July Committee Meeting we discussed the current situation and the progression of restrictions since the outbreak of the pandemic. In spite of the amazing effort from the Australian public in conforming to CoVid-19 there has recently been an ever increasing number of new cases being recorded which has caused some restrictions to be re-introduced and travel restrictions being enforced. As a committee we have put in place all systems and processes required by all regulatory bodies to ensure that we do not run afoul of their process and as such we have a green light from them. However, the health and safety of our riders, their crew and our volunteers will still, as always, be our primary concern and as we feel that we cannot, in good faith, guarantee the safety of all participants. We have decided that we have no option but to cancel this year’s event and get a good start in planning the 2021 event. All riders who have registered for this year’s event can apply for a full refund or they can elect to roll over their entry for the 2021 event. The good news that can be gleaned out of this decision! look at all the extra training you can get in! Richard Dodd President
07.01.2022 All loaded up and heading for Birdsville for the start of the first ever Simpson desert MTB challenge heading west up the steep side of the dunes. That sounds like a good idea now doesn't it.
07.01.2022 Top of Mt Misery. You can see how much rubber is actually in contact with the road. 14 psi tyre pressure. The best part about this photo is seeing how many road bikes are still behind me.
06.01.2022 In case you didn't know, I love fatbikes. Such a versatile platform for so many different types of riding. People sometimes ask me what's next in fatbikes, wha...t is the future? It might be refined designs, materials, however the biggest future for fatbikes is the next generation of rider coming through. When they see the places a fatbike can take them, you'll inspire their imagination and they'll start doing things we never thought of. The ultimate parental escape machine :) This short film is a great exposure to the founders of modern fatbiking as we know it, people at the coalface of originality, where it started and those that continue to innovate in the heartland of fatbiking - Alaska. https://youtu.be/EUGSqPnOOvo
03.01.2022 Want to ride but worried about the distance? We can find you a team mate to share the distance and you still get the accomplishment of completing the event as a team!
03.01.2022 After 33 years of racing and almost 1000 riders we’ve still given out less than 300 finisher medals. Will this be your year? Entries are open!
02.01.2022 Sometimes you just can’t find the part of the road with the least corrugations. 2020 entries open 1 January!
