Pastoral Care offers a safe setting to explore spiritual and emotional aspects of life, which often come up in times of illness and crisis from an understanding that spirituality is common to all people; it is about meaning and hope in life, connections with yourself, others and the world around us especially necessary during this disorienting COVID-19 season! 15.01.2022 Meet Dr Dan Crompton, Clinical Director of Emergency Services at Bass Coast Health. Dan ensures the Emergency Department at Wonthaggi Hospital and Urgent Care Centre at Phillip Island Health Hub are operating well. I make sure we have adequate staffing and that staff are well trained and supported, and ensure the services we provide meet the needs of our community. When a patient has a problem that is more than what we can handle, our team have to know how to stabilise and r...efer them. Dan has been impressed by his team’s ability to detect rare diagnoses, and also credits the skilled staff of Monash Health Pathology and i-Med radiology who provide services to BCH. We are fortunate to have highly skilled nurses working with Emergency Specialists in ED who are able to be called back in overnight if needed. Dan is an Emergency Specialist himself and can often be found helping to treat patients. COVID-19 has changed the way the flow of patients is managed in order to reduce the risk of staff contracting COVID-19 or passing the virus on. We need to identify those at risk of having COVID-19 so we move them safely through the department and everyone is aware of the risks and how to keep themselves safe. It’s a whole of hospital approach.
