22.01.2022 We've got our fingers crossed for the Bass Coast Series in 2021 While no clear decision can be made yet regarding our summer events program, we're hopeful that we'll be able to run our series for you all **Update regarding Bass Coast Series Summer 2021**... If the Bass Coast Series is planned to go ahead, we will have a decision made and communicated in mid-late November. Cape Aquathon The Cape Paterson SLSC has its Cape Aquathon event scheduled for Sun 17th January and is pushing on with plans to hold this event if restrictions allow. San Remo Channel Challenge Similarly, Woolamai Beach SLSC, which is due to hold its 36th San Remo Channel Challenge event in February, is intending to go ahead as long as any restrictions do not compromise the staging of the race. To allow for possible numbers restrictions, WBSLSC has a contingency plan to stage a two-day weekend event with the Men’s Categories being held on Saturday and the Women’s categories being held on the Sunday of the same weekend. At this stage, there are two possible dates for the Channel Challenge to be held: 13th/14th February or 27th/28th February. Cowes Classic Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, we have decided to postpone the Cowes Classic event until 2021. Little Penguin Dash The recently created junior Aquathon event Little Penguin Dash will continue if possible and will be held in conjunction with either the Annual WBSLSC Nippers program in January or on the weekend of the Channel Challenge. The protocols around all Victorian Nippers’ programs for summer 2020/21 are still under review between Life Saving Victoria and the Victorian State Government. Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club will be providing updates for the Bass Coast Series as information is made readily available. In the event any competition proceeds, online entries will be the only method of registration, there will be no on-the-day signups. We thank you for your patience and support during this time and hope we will see you in 2021. Warmly, Bass Coast Series https://www.basscoastseries.com.au//bass-coast-series-upda

01.01.2022 WHY WE DECIDED TO RESCHEDULE SAN REMO CHANNEL CHALLENGE and HOW WE DECIDED THE NEW DATE AND TIME Despite Bureau of Meteorology forecasting decreasing winds and rain from 2pm, windspeed actually held and even increased to 60kph. The likelihood of winds pushing swimmers into bridge pylons, its effect on wavesize and swimmer visibility, and its delaying effect on the turning of the tide, all meant even our most confident swimmers would struggle to complete the channel swim. Conc...erns were also held for runners at the apex of the bridge, exposed to strong winds. While conditions were monitored throughout the day, final evaluation was made close to race start time, in case the forecast improvement eventuated. Feedback has been unanimous that the right decision was made. HOW WE DECIDED THE NEW DATE AND TIME Saturday 23 March, 3.15pm Every year, time and date is determined by the convergence of several circumstances unique to San Remo Channel Challenge. To avoid the fierce tidal currents pushing through the channel, San Remo Channel Challenge is held at the top of high tide on a Saturday in daylight, when reducing the bridge to one lane wont impact traffic from other major events held locally, in consultation with the community, Victoria Police, Bass Coast Shire Council, relevant Victoria State Government authorities and local traders.

01.01.2022 With the little penguin dash, this Saturday here's everything you need to know ahead of the race The Little Penguin Dash is a junior beach biathlon for 7 to 14 year olds raising money for the Phillip Island Football & Netball Club and the Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club. What are the distances?... Age / Swim / Run 7 Years 150m 500m 8 Years 150m 500m 9 Years 150m 500m 10 Years 150m 500m 11 Years 300m 1km 12 Years 300m 1km 13 Years 300m 1km 14 Years 300m 1km The Swim This year the Little Penguin Dash will be held at high tide so although the map shows them swimming on the sand, the beach will be covered in water. However, for your child to be able to stand up and catch their breath during the event, we will endeavor to keep the water depth no higher than: Age / Water Depth 7 Years 96cm 8 Years 102cm 9 Years 108cm 10 Years 113cm 11 Years 118cm 12 Years 124cm 13 Years 131cm 14 Years 135cm This will encourage your child to swim to advance more quickly or porpoise through the water as it will be too deep to wade or run through the swim section. The Transition When setting up your area you will need: Runners / socks Drink bottle (filled with water) Towel Any medication you might need (ie. Asthma Puffer) As everyone's area looks the same and is only a small area, you might consider bringing a brightly colored towel to put your shoes on so you can see it from the end of the row. Other things to consider might be a hat or sweatband if it's really hot, but remember you will have limited space and sometimes extra items mean more time in transition and less time on the track. It is a great part of the course you can practice at home. Set up the area, practice taking off goggles and hats. Replace them with shoes. Make sure all your items are placed back in one spot so no one else stands on them or mistakes them for their own. The Run As the competitors will all be finishing through the main finish arch on the roadway, all competitors will need to put on runners for the run leg of the event. Ages 7, 8, 9 and 10 will be using Transition Area 1 and running 500m in total. Ages 11, 12, 13 & 14 will be using Transition Area 2 and running 1km in total. This is the fun bit, so remember to soak up the cheers from the crowd and raise your hands as you cross that line because you made it! You will even get a medal to prove it. Collecting your gear from Transition Transition areas cannot be opened when their competitors still participating on the course. So for the safety and security of all competitors, the Course Director will announce when the transition areas are open and will insist that only ONE adult accompany a participant to collect their items. As there are many items and children to be collected we appreciate your patience and cooperation is appreciated. Register here www.basscoastseries.com.au/
