20.01.2022 Every year there is a different theme for NAIDOC Week. This year’s theme, Always Was, Always Will Be, recognises the continuous connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have with this land and that the nation’s story began at the dawn of time and didn’t begin with documented European contact. Local community celebrations during NAIDOC Week are encouraged. Here are some ideas on how to celebrate NAIDOC Week: - Display the National NAIDOC Poster or other I...ndigenous posters around your classroom or workplace - Listen to Indigenous musicians or watch a movie about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history - Study a famous Indigenous Australian. - Research the traditional Indigenous owners of your area - Study Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and crafts - Visit local Indigenous sites of significance or interest - Hold a flag raising ceremony See more

05.01.2022 We’re disappointed to announce that Council’s end of year fireworks displays will not go ahead this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This decision was made in in close consultation with emergency services and is in-line with COVID-safe requirements set by the State Government, for the ongoing safety of our community. Each year our fireworks displays attract thousands of people and under the current circumstances these crowd numbers are just not acceptable or safe. While we... know a lot of people, young and old, will be disappointed, unfortunately there’s no way to keep attendance within the restricted gathering limits, which are in place for everyone’s safety Displays would usually occur at the Cowes Christmas Carols event and on New Year’s Eve in Coronet Bay, Inverloch and Cowes.
