24.01.2022 WOMEN AT WAR by Bill Charlton They often go unheralded though they too did their time. Alongside the soldiers in the front line. These are the women who served as nurses and more.... With their lives in great danger when they went to war. There were the nurses in aid stations close to the front. Who suffered from the shelling as they took the brunt. The sight of the injuries of the wounded and the dying. Would have lesser folk weeping and crying. But they stood by their posts and performed their job well. In conditions described as a real living hell. They tended the wounded, and nursed the maimed. Their expertise was appreciated and they were well-trained. Some volunteered as spies, and were flown in France. A role fraught with peril but they still took their chance. So many brave women answered the call. They also made sacrifices and many would fall. Our women also served in World War Two. There were so many roles that they now could do. In every field our women were present. Many nurses were held in Japanese prisons. Raped and tortured their prospects looked dim. But they had great courage, and fight still within. Many survived the war and told their tales, Of the suffering experienced in the enemy gaols. Even today our servicewomen excel. They hold key positions and they do their job well. In the Army, the Navy and the Air Force they shine. We salute all these women who serve in the front line! 22.01.2022 Greetings Members, Due to the latest personal space restriction for indoor meetings set by the Federal Government, this Sundays General meeting of the 22nd March is cancelled. The Committee have decided that all meetings, events and activities at Schools, Aged Care facilities, including ANZAC day are cancelled for the next three months. A review of the suspension of those activities and meetings will be held in June 2020. We are only doing what all organisations are doing. Most of us are elderly, and we cant take the risk of infection of the corona virus.

13.01.2022 I had a nice surprise in the post when I returned home from the sub-Branch office. Our State parliamentarian sent me and others a Community Involvement thank you for being involved in the production of the Remembrance Day Service on line. As you might know friends, both Bass Hill and Chester Hill -Carramar RSL sub-Branches sent our Service live on Facebook for the benefit of, not only our own members, but schools and age care facilities in our area. I thank both Committees for participating. And Ron Duckworth for technical skills achieved through trial and error, days prior to the event to make it work.
