Tide should be around 10 pm tonight It’s well worth a look as there a great concentration of prawns ready to migrate and leave the estuary !!! 23.01.2022 We’re bringing duskies back to the Gippsland Lakes! For the first time EVER 42,000 dusky flathead fingerlings have been stocked at Lakes Entrance and Metung thi...s week to boost wild populations. Minister for Fishing & Boating, Melissa Horne MP, helped release the iconic species and promote the Gippsland Lakes Recreational Fishery Plan at Metung today. Releasing duskies is a key part of the Plan, with a 3-year stocking trial. It includes eastern estuaries like the Bemm River, which was also stocked this week for the first time with 5,000 duskies. In January, dusky flathead broodfish were captured at Mallacoota with help from volunteers, including the Mallacoota & District Angling Club. As part of the collection process, DNA samples from across East Gippsland were gathered to map the genetic structure of dusky stocks along the east coast. The broodfish were then transported to Narooma Aquaculture where they spawned these are their offspring!
