24.01.2022 It's busy here today, with people coming from all over Australia to see our Museum. Locals from Humpty Doo brought their friends here. Visitors from W.A. and Tasmania, from NSW and Victoria are absorbing the knowledge shared and kept alive here at the Batchelor Museum.

23.01.2022 This is a recreation of what the bedrooms looked like in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Note the timber louvers on the left, which allowed both privacy and air flow.

22.01.2022 Have you had coffee and cake at the Barking Owls Gift & Coffee Shop at the Batchelor Museum yet? Open from Fridays through to Tuesdays, (closed Wednesday and Thursday). Open from 10am - 4pm. Time to check it out!! See you there...

22.01.2022 2 baby Barking Owls born in the tree just outside the entrance to Building A of the Batchelor Museum. The parents return each year to have their young. Very special.

21.01.2022 On-Site Caretakers Batchelor Museum, BATCHELOR, NT. We are looking for a couple who have their own accommodation i.e. caravan/motor home, and who would be interested in volunteering as On-Site Caretakers at the Batchelor Museum. The season is from 1 April to September/October, depending on the weather. This position is offered for the month of May 2018. This is not a paid position. Your van site, power and water are free for you in the grounds of the Museum. There is al...so a bathroom, fridge and small washing machine available. Batchelor is at the gateway to the beautiful Litchfield National Park and is a very historic little town of approx. 400 people, 50/50 Aboriginal and non-aboriginal. Batchelor is only 100kms from Darwin. There is a wonderful community spirit in the town and always lots of fun activities going on. Lawn bowls, a swimming pool, general store, beautiful Batchelor Oval with cricket pitch, many parks, monthly markets, monthly Quiz Nights, Op-shop, Anglican and Seventh Day Adventist Churches, Butterfly Farm and Rum Jungle Tavern with karaoke weekly are just a few of the activities you could become involved in during your stay at the Museum. The more you give, the more you receive in Batchelor. You wont want to leave! We are interested in neat and friendly couples who are active and enjoy meeting and talking with people, most of whom are travellers such as you. The main requirements are keeping the three buildings of the museum clean, opening and closing, and greeting visitors each day. Also, maintaining the museum grounds and driveways. Details of these activities will be forwarded upon application, with a run-sheet of a typical day. This is an easy and rewarding position for 2 people to share the days activities. The Museum is open 7 days a week during the season and on request thereafter. Open hours are from 10am to 4pm. You would be required to be here 5 days per week, then 2 days off. This is flexible to suit different requirements. We are all volunteers, and as such, try to be flexible. We have a small yet dedicated group of Committee members and friends of the Museum who look after it on a regular basis to allow our valued Caretakers to enjoy their time off. A keen interest in Australian history, in particular WWII would be great but not necessary. This is an opportunity to learn more about the Top End and the front line of our Australian WWII history. Also, the Rum Jungle Uranium Mine and the township of Batchelor in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. The Museum is fascinating and, whilst it has only been open since 2012, has been given great reviews and is on the to do list of the NT. It is constantly evolving, with new exhibits and information being added on a regular basis. If you are interested in keeping the history alive and would like more information, please phone Denise on 0488195430 or email to [email protected]. Also, check out the website on www.batchelormuseum.org.au See more

17.01.2022 We had a lovely tour group from USA go through our Museum last Thursday. Very happy friendly people. They also loved seeing our Barking Owl up in the tree. Lots of photos were taken. 17.01.2022 We are in the last few weeks of the season now, so hurry along and see the Batchelor Museum before it closes for the year in October.

16.01.2022 It has been a great year for the Batchelor Museum, with many people visiting. In fact, visitor number have well over doubled from last year. This can be attribu...ted to various things; becoming members of Tourism Top End, our wonderful new sign at the Batchelor Visitor Information Centre, various promotions throughout the year including a stand at the 2015 Tourism Expo at the Darwin Casino in June and word of mouth. We look forward to a very exciting year in 2016 with many new panels being added to our displays, thanks to the tireless work of our President, Dr. Jan Hills and her support group of passionate volunteers and professional people. Come back and check out our FB page from time to time. Cheers for now, Denise Grecian-Wright, Manager, Batchelor Museum - Keeping the history alive... See more

13.01.2022 It has been a big year for the Batchelor Museum, with record visitor numbers and many exciting events and improvements. The outside of the buildings were painted, giving a fresh and inviting appearance to them. We had solar panels installed on both buildings, and unwanted and dangerous trees removed. We were blessed to have had the help and assistance of two wonderful couples as On-site Caretakers this year; Greg and Kim Scrimshaw, who were with us from April to August, and ...then Malcolm and Helen Boyd were here from August to end October. Many thanks to these wonderful people for sharing their time and expertise with the people of Batchelor and our visitors. We were truly blessed to have met you and thank you again for your presence at the Batchelor Museum. The Museum is now closed for the wet season, however, we do open it on request. Therefore, if you are coming to Batchelor and wish to see through this amazing Museum, please give me a call on 0488 195 430 and we shall arrange a suitable day and time. The Committee of the Batchelor Museum wish you and your families and loved ones a very happy Christmas and a safe and prosperous 2018. See you next year. Denise Manager, Batchelor Museum See more

10.01.2022 The Batchelor Museum is looking for interested people to operate a gift and coffee shop at the museum. Building C has been renovated with a new kitchen, dishwas...her, and regulatory requirements to operate as a shop that sells pre-packaged foods. We have local artists waiting to put their art and craft items on consignment for sale. We just need an enthusiastic, honest, active and imaginative person to operate their own business in this great location. 09.01.2022 Whoohoo hello again, I'm back! While I was resting up in my tree at the Batchelor Museum, I noticed a bus pull up. Out of the bus came a group of people, young families I think. On the side of their bus was a smiley face, and hanging around their necks was this same picture of a smiley face. It turned out that they were from Camp Quality. WOW, they really looked to be having fun as they walked through the buildings of the Museum. Thanks for coming along kids & Mum's & Dad's and helpers. Hope you had a hoot of a time. Gotta fly now, Whooorooo!!!
