18.01.2022 The magpies are always happy when we are at the garden.....they come out after we have scratched around and get the worms and grubs. Lyndsay brought in some citronella cuttings and we got a production line going. Great for keeping away the mossies. Bateau Bay Mens Shed received a new defibrillator. They were kind enough to donate their old one to Bateau Bay Community Garden. Thanks very muchly!

13.01.2022 MAGPIES MIGHT BE A COMMON SPECIES but they are by no means ordinary ... DID YOU KNOW that Magpies are not all the same "colour" all over Australia? They are black and white but Magpies pattern varies, depending upon its location. Its nape, upper tail and shoulder are white in males, grey in females. Across most of Australia, the remainder of the body is black. In the south-east, centre, extreme south-west and Tasmania, the back and rump are entirely white. AS BREEDING SEAS...ON begins in August, from here on in you might experience some "swooping" from birds defending their nests. Up to 24 birds can live in a group in a territory that, year round, will be defended by all group members. The group depends on this territory for its feeding, roosting and nesting requirements, so safeguarding their territory is top priority... >>https://australian.museum//animals/birds/australian-magpie/ >>https://www.researchgate.net//Distribution-and-back-color-

06.01.2022 Our new garden bed is full. We used our own compost, but it took our two bin loads.
05.01.2022 Good work by the lads today to finish the chook cage. Thanks Kevin for fabricating the brackets, for the poles, so we can move it. Brian came up trumps again, making the footrests on the ramps.... Can’t wait to get them.
04.01.2022 More veges for our compost .. thank you @Seven Eleven Thai - Long Jetty
03.01.2022 A great week had by all this lovely winters weather. Richard came around the back today and gave us some (much needed) motivation and assisted with the new shelving unit against the container. Before you knew it, we had Bob, Richard, Nigel and George assisting too. He also suggested that we complete the flashing above - the roof to the container. Before you could say Jiminy Cricket - Nigel and Garry were up on the roof and securing the flashing. Just to finish it off ...with some silicon next week. Thanks and Recognition must be given to Charles, whose idea it was to salvage the shelves from the scrap pile. It was all hands on deck ..... George assisted with the drill, Kevin assisted with the shelving and Frank with moral support. Lynds Lyndsey Long continues to delight us with her breath of fresh air, streamlining some work practices and reorganising things. Love your work Lynds!! Frank, Garry and Bob attended to clearing of several beds, in preparation to our propagation next week. We had three types of bees loving our flowers, Apis mellifera (the European Honey Bee), Amegilla cingulata - (The blue banded bee) and our very own Tetragonula carbonaria (sugarbag bee)

01.01.2022 We knew that something was eating out tomatoes ... but was suprised when we spied the Koel. They are normally a very shy bird, you often hear them , but don’t see them. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koel
