We posted this video so you can start now before you unintentionally train lead on equals pull you to get somewhere. Dont wait until you are being dragged everywhere to start. Train this if your dog already pulls on lead. Life becomes a whole lot easier for you both.... If you need help, we can help you. New membership day is this Saturday 6 June 2020. Pups from 16 weeks and any age after. (Thankyou Kikopup for this video). https://youtu.be/iKG89GVOJiM

23.01.2022 We hear the term socialisation, but what does it really mean? Its not as simple as it sounds and it does need to be done properly. Not forcing interaction, l...istening to what your pup is telling you, and understanding that often just being nearby and hearing, seeing, smelling whilst remaining calm is of benefit is often forgotten about. With thanks to R+Dogs for this reminder.
21.01.2022 Do you have a puppy up to 16 weeks of age, or getting a puppy dueing our Covid distancing regulations? (Missing our local puppy classes). This socialisation period is very important. Here are some well known professional and qualified Trainers discussing this very issue, even though American. Very good advice and well worth listening to. (Sorry about the advertising but the content very helpful). One link here with the other in the comments.

17.01.2022 Something to think about. Forcing a dog to face its fears and taking away its control over its own movement is probably not a good idea as the risk of creatin...g a negative learning experience becomes very high. Luring a fearful dog with food could work out fine and can sometimes make a dog to realize that an object is safe, but it can also create feelings of inner conflict and some dogs will suddenly startle. I would never advise anyone to lure a fearful dog into meeting other animals (including humans) as this can become very risky. Once the food has been eaten, the dog may freak out in being too close and suddenly react with a defensive response. Encouraging a dog (with verbal praise or other types of rewards) after it takes initiative in exploring and processing information at its own pace can boost the self-confidence of a dog and can reduce stress and fearfulness. 16.01.2022 If your dog loves it, then let them go.
14.01.2022 This! We see a high number of older pups and adolescent young dogs that go through the mentioned behaviours of frustration around other dogs. Great information once again from Wonderdogs. Please start training while they are young. Come to classes so we can train you to train your pups, help with young teenager dogs if you missed out or need some help, or training and practice in a controlled environment. ... Part 3 from Wonderdogs. Scroll down for part 1 and 2.

07.01.2022 Moruya Animal Hospital warns 1080 Poisoning Alert A warning to dog owners to keep pets at home. A dog poisoned with 1080 was admitted to hospital in the early h...ours of this morning. The patient is from Maulbrooks Road, Moruya. 1080 is a potent toxin and dogs are very susceptible. Signs of poisoning include excitation (manic running and panting), drooling, tetanic spasms and ultimately death. These signs are seen anywhere between 2 and 12 hours after ingesting the poison. Our patient remains in a critical condition. National Parks 1080 Baiting Program commenced early May (see National Parks and Wildlife press release below and their website for further details). NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using fresh meat, manufactured baits and CPEs containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs. The program will be ongoing and continuous from Tuesday 5 May 2020 to Thursday 5 November 2020. Eurobodalla National Park | Local alerts | NSW National Parks
06.01.2022 Just a reminder; if you have started classes please dont forget to bring: a lead, a flat or martingale collar and/or harness and collar, poo bags, a mat your dog can lie on, a water bowl and water (dont use other dogs bowls), your clicker, and many yummy soft treats your dog can eat without tummy upset (for eg small chicken pieces and sausage and some of their kibble) cut into little-finger nail sizes, and a pouch to carry them in (we have some available for sale if needed...). You can also bring a tuggy. For those that have done their Basic Manners/Foundation Class please bring all the above as well as your Dowel and/or leather strap and your 5m long lead if you have one. Sometimes we use a camping chair and platforms and perches. Handlers will need closed comfortable shoes, and maybe a hat and water now the weather is warming up. Oh Yeah! Lily says dont forget the dog! (think thats a given Lil) Covid 19 regulations in place: Social Distancing of 1.5m, no sharing of equipment and please bring correct amount of money (no double handing of cash) of $3 ground fee. Sanitiser is available if you dont have your own, and one of our Batemans Bay Branch AWLNSW Volunteers/Committee Members will sign you in rather then pen sharing. Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell, or have recently been to one of the known hotspots. This is very important. We are looking forward to seeing you at training. As a branch of Animal Welfare League NSW we are able to help ANY member of the community on a Pension card or low income Centrelink card with the expense of Desexing Companion Animals. (CADS) by issueing vouchers. We are also organisingfor the AWLNSW Mobile Vet and a Vaccination Day for our pets in the area so please just contact us for information on either scheme

03.01.2022 Celebrating #VolunteerWeek: 18-24 May Did you know? Animal Welfare League NSW has 18 branches across the state - solely made of amazing and dedicated volunteers... who are passionate about improving animal welfare in their community. These volunteers help their local areas by offering discount desexing programs, support and education, as well as help to rehome pets from private surrenders or local shelters through a network of foster carers. Without their ongoing efforts, our charity wouldnt be where it is today. We are proud of the passionate work our volunteers continue to do, especially through recent hardships of bushfire, flooding, and COVID-19. Despite these hurdles, our volunteers havent stopped helping many animals in need and we appreciate all of their amazing work during these challenging times.
